    Thanks so much for this awesome video. Unlike a gazillion other videos, you actually show what it's like traveling the gorge without tour group.

    Very nice video!! You've earned my subscribe! I loved Taroko National Park so much when I was there last December (and actually made it part of my video on my channel), and was very excited to go back there in September when I found myself in Taiwan again, however police had closed the entire park off due to the typhoon that happened in the first week of September. I was very disappointed in missing out!! :(
    I never got to experience the trouble of the public transport outside of Taipei, as I chose to rent a car, but I do agree, the public transport in some of the other areas in Taiwan is quite shocking. In September, I went to Tainan briefly for a few days, and the bus network, is truly awful. The confusion with what to catch, being told to wait at the tourist bus stop by tourist information for an hour, before being told by a local that tourist buses only run during holidays, and the frequency of buses themselves. It's one of the many reasons, despite being a budget solo traveller, I'll always pay up the money to hire a car if I am leaving any major city to save time an hassles.
    Taiwan is by far, the best place on Earth that I've travelled to so far.

      Thanks brother! Shattered for you about the typhoon closure. Probably for the best, but!
      A car rental would've been a luxury! And such nice roads to drive on. 👍

      @@thedeparturebrief Yeah for sure! I was very surprised on the quality of roads in the mountains of Taiwan, especially comparing to the quality of roads back in Brisbane and London hahaha :D

      Edit - Just translated it on Google. I agree!! I’d love to move to Taiwan and live there, but not knowing Chinese Mandarin is stopping me. 😔

    Was there an access route to go near the waters in the Shakadang Gorge trail? The water looked so inviting!😅

    thanks for this! heading there in 2 weeks. Do you think its possible to do Baiyang, Tunnel of 9 tails, Yanzikou trail, and Shakadang all in one day? WHy did you not do the Yanzikou trail?

    • @thedeparturebrief
      @thedeparturebrief  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Dave, no problem thanks for watching. As I mention in the video, when planning, the best thing you can do is speak to the park rangers yourself as the conditions change frequently. Reach out to them via their website.
      I did not do Yanzikoi because when I was researching, the other trails were more appealing (with the current closures)
      I hope this helps 👍

      Do you know or have the bus time table for the trails going from and back to Hualien for Shakadang, Swallow Grotto, and nine tails? I was able to see to / from Hualiena and Baiyang. This is for bus 310. Open to other bus routes provided it starts from Hualien @cozyoasis @@thedeparturebrief

    How come you only pay 50 NT for the day pass? Haha lucky you. And what time you board the bus from tianxiang? After finishing baiyang trail?

    • @thedeparturebrief
      @thedeparturebrief  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I got lucky, but also very confused! Best thing to do is reach out to the bus company directly to get accurate information as it changes frequently.

    While all visitors are appreciated by all countries, I am sure; but the mode of travel presented here is the least desirable concept of tourism. This is showing the bare minimum type of travel, which cannot benefit the local population by much.I know this channel focuses on budget travels, but I encourage tourists to support the locals as much as possible!

    • @thedeparturebrief
      @thedeparturebrief  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      By locals, do you mean the train companies, bus companies, hostels, restaurants, supermarkets, cafes, market stalls, souvenir shops I spent money at? 🤔 I think travelling further on a budget means more of my money is sprinkled across more places, not less. But anyway, everyone's entitled to an opinion and I hope you enjoyed the video 🙂✌️
