    Quick update. After watching your video, I realized how much I missed that Roksan sound after my Caspian M Series-1, so I went out and bought one. LOL. The Roksan house sound is just addictive, it is dynamic, punchy and yet lush and sweet. In my opinion, it has the best of both worlds in the sense that it is a highly exciting amp without sounding bright. You can enjoy an EDM track as much as when you are chilling out to some female jazz vocals like Diana Krall for example. Some say the Roksan puts a rosy tint on the music especially jazz vocals almost with a certain Class A characteristic if you will to an extent. It may not be the most neutral amp out there, if that is what you are after you will need to look elsewhere, but it sure makes your music more enjoyable, at least to my ears.

    • @mykeldg
      @mykeldg  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Blak is one of the best integrated amps I have heard with the Dali Rubicon. does the Caspian sound sharp in the highs? or is it smooth? this is one area the blak can sometimes have some tendency. That said, yes, very musical amp -- looks cool too!

    • @Rascallucci
      @Rascallucci 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mykeldg Sharp in the highs? Not really. When I auditioned the Caspian M Series-1 at the time, I heard it with a pair of Quad 11L or 12L. The guy played Diana Krall's "S'Wonderful" for me. It was just sweet and with a slight rosy tint. I was pretty much sold immediately. It is also punchy and dynamic. The thing about the Caspian is don't overdo it with the volume. If you listen to your music loud, the 85W is not enough. I had a pair of Tannoy Sensys DC2 back then and I did clip the Caspian a few times. But, if you hook it up to a nice pair of standmount such as the Quad 12L, listen to some female vocals, as long as you listen to it within its limits, it is a very enjoyable experience. Just pour yourself a drink and chill. I had the Marantz PM 7002 already which was a great amp for the money, somehow I still went for the Caspian M Series-1.
      The Blak is similar, but perhaps even smoother with more composure. Having said that, while it is much more powerful than the Caspian, it only has 150W into 8 ohms and 230W into 4 ohms. To be objective, at that price point, you could also audition the Musical Fidelity M6si and it has 70W more at 220W into 8 ohms. The thing is it only has 1 x USB input when it comes to digital inputs. For my next upgrade, I would definitely take a look at the M8xi. 550W into 8 ohms and has all the digital inputs you need.

      @@Rascallucci interesting, I found the blak very lush indeed and has a lot of drive, forward in the midrange as well as having a bit of bite at the top. I didn't have room treatments back then so that is probably one of the cause. Which one do you prefer between MF and Roksan? Only one thing wished it had was tone controls

    • @Rascallucci
      @Rascallucci 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mykeldg Yes, lush is the word and the midrange is a little forward. It is the kind of sound that is easy to like although one could argue it is not the most neutral or may be a little coloured. Between Roksan and MF, I think Roksan up to a certain level until you need more power. MF is definitely not quite as lush, plus everything is forward. I would say it depends on your speakers. If you run a pair of Dynaudio Evoke 50 for example with a 4 ohm load dropping down to 3 ohm, at 87 dB sensitivity and a true 3-way, not saying the Blak can't drive it, but it certainly doesn't hurt to give it more juice. I suppose I will find out soon enough as I am planning to get a pair myself. LOL. The thing about MF is its specs vs price point ratio is through the roof. Can you name another amplifier brand that gives an even bigger bang for the buck? I can't. Having said that, I wouldn't consider MF as high end if indeed you are just about to cross into that threshold. For true high end, if you like the Roksan house sound, I think you will like the Gryphon Diablo 300. It might look weird, but its sound is something else. It is punchy and meaty.

      thanks! yes I find it hard to find a modestly priced replacement for the Onkyo 9150 since I have a small room. And yes it does have more brilliance & sparkle and also bass extension which is a bit more fun than other purist amps.

      Thank you very much for aswering. I am a superfan of these things, every day I am thinking about how to build a system with guaranteed high performance and I am reviewing everything online: from speakers, amplifiers, preamps, dacs, anyway. I have some very good theories I belive in my way of seeing systems from $1000 to $5000 dollars. And your videos have helped me a lot to verify those ideas that I have because it seems that we are practically in the same sector in price and quality. Finally I would like to give you some suggestions if you allow me: I have seen reviews of the keces E40 integrated amplifier and I think that you could get all the possible juice in addition to the excelent reviews that it has seems to be a killer and another very interesting product would be Polk L100 I think it breaks it. Do you think that one day there would be a possibility that you would give us that demo sound? - Regards.

    hahaha, can't help laughing out when I watch your girl dancing and singing with the Roksan. She's a gienius for stage performance! Did she learn it from watching music radio? A lot of moves are very professional! My daughter is 10 years old. So I really enjoy watching little girls letting themselves go just like my daughter.
    By the way, I do enjoy your comparison videos. Onkyo 9150 is certainly a valuable buy though Roksan sounds certainly more relaxed and easy in driving out the high and lows. Given that the used amp market priced Marantz pm5005 almost half or a third of the Onkyo 9150 at least hear in China, I would say the Marantz is also a nice bang in the bucks if I remember clearly the subtle difference between it and Onkyo in your other video.

    If I had to choose an amp, it would be the Roksan. Better dynamics and harmonics in the treble. Mid-range is also very good. Depending on how important dynamics are to you and the type of music you listen to, the Onkyo rates at around 70% of the sound quality of the Roksan, which is a fantastic result, given the price difference. Better synergy between the Roksan/cables and the speaker than the Onkyo. A different combination could reduce the difference further. A valve buffer on the Onkyo after the RCA outputs ( google, FX audio), would also close the gap. Thank you for posting, as always.

    Just came here from the other comparison with the Ragnarok. Again this is pretty close, much closer than it has any right to be for an amp that costs £280 (Onkyo) vs £2800 for the Roksan here in the UK. I've listened several times and the Onkyo can do most of the things the Roksan can for one tenth of the price: detail, sweet mid range, deep bass, sound stage and imaging are harder to judge over headphones but the budget Onkyo has me pretty interested. The sound seems to have more soul than other budget but well-reviewed amps I tried like the Audiolab 6000A and the Rotel a11 Tribute as well.
    One question: is it a bit big and ugly in the flesh?

    I‘m using Dali Rubicon 5s with Yamaha R-N602. I‘m wondering, if the Rocksan could be a significant upgrade for my Daliis. The Yamaha performs similar to the Roksan, but sometimes I miss deep bass and I wish I could not only hear the bass, but also feel it. 😃

    • @mykeldg
      @mykeldg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hard to say as i only have few experience with amps so far. Regarding deeper bass, Not sure but to me the onkyo 30w has deeper bass than the roksans. I think higher end amps will give you more control on the bass which dali already excel at. That said roksan gives more dynamics and plenty of air between instruments, blacker background. Vocals are also more solid. But i have to say i prefer the looser deeper bass on the onkyo. Other amps suggested for dali are nad, denon rega hegel and also yamaha as 1200 or 2200.

      its quite an unfair comparison since The Roksan is almost 5x more in price. With the Roksan, it has much better bass control, dynamics, more forward vocals. Soundstage has tons of space between instruments, blacker background, and is more holographic. What is interesting is how high the value for money is on the Onkyo since it doesn't sound bad beside the Roksan despite being much much lower in cost. The Onkyo has more brilliance/sparkle and the tonal balance is more even handed whereas the Roksan is mid-centric, more forward & muscular in comparison.
