  • In this video we show how to repair a Yamaha power trim unit, Replace the O rings, Refill and bleed the system.
    Cap tool: I now have this oneamzn.to/30hvjvU it fits 32mm* x 4mm (1.25” x .15”) pin spacing, I liked it because it came with replacement pins. I have not needed to replace them yet.

    I would not use pliers to remove the piston. Any burrs or scratches put on it may cut the new seals/o-rings and leak. Otherwise, good video.

      As soon as I saw him pull the piston with pliers, I shook my head and killed the video smh . His next video shows you how to install an oversized turbo with a mallet.

      ACTO Gunsyou can use pliers I used vice grips but i took an old leather glove cut the thumb off of it and used it as a cylinder condom before clamping down on it with the pliers

      I've done this twice to my VMAX and I use an old silicone oven mitt to grab the piston and pull on it. It works like a charm. Even easier before you start, put your engine on the stand and make sure the trim pistons are out as far as they can go before you start. You wont need any tools to get the piston out.

    • @greatestskills7447
      @greatestskills7447  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not much of a problem if you grab only the top of the piston that part does not normally run through the seal except for when you reinstall the cap. If you do bur it polish it with fine sand paper dont risk the new seal. Brass jaw pliers also work well but are hard to find. I like the old silicone oven mitt idea never tried that one.

      Guys, knowledge alone doesn't make you a good mechanic. Knowledge and the right tools do. The spanner wrench he used is not the right tools for the job. Also, they stripped the cap when torquing the cap, not while removing it. The spanner wrench needed has 4 little knobs and looks like a Crow's foot that you use with a breaker bar or a ratchet. Also, they sell pliers with silicone tips or cannon plug pliers are excellent for that. Also, a $100 condiment bottle (ketchup are red and mustard are yellow) are excellent for filling up the reservoir. If you can't find the correct fluid, Dextron III is a good replacement for Yamaha power trims. My 150 power trim runs great with it. And actually the Yamaha manual indicated it can be used.

    I'm trying to replace the tilt/trim seals on my 1997 C60 2 stroke. I cannot find the part number for the o ring that is inside the trim cylinder cap. I'm able to locate all the other o rings such as the trim dust seal that is on the outside of the cap.
    Can you help out with a part number or any advice? The o ring I'm looking for isn't listed on any of the parts diagrams for my outboard. Thanks!

    I have a yamaha 115 2 stroke which having issue about the tilt, I had a pump to fill the oil inside the tilt but it runs rough, sometimes when I run all the way up and it stuck at the top position, what I can do in that moment was using manual release valve to lower a little bit, and trim down and it works.
    I using a pump to pump oil into it until oil flood out the hole, but I had repeat the process about 3-4 times still getting problem with rough trim down and stuck at top position ...
    I had check the system didn't leak, because I stay the boat for overnight after wash and dry, I turn back another time and didn't had any oil I feel when I touch the trim and lower.
    Any suggestion?

    Question: Evinrude 140 VRO... been sitting for 6yrs. Last time used was working great. Getting it ready, started with the tilt trim. Goes down immediately when I connect battery. Dismantled the switch thinking it was stuck. All 3 wires at the switch separated completely still when I connect the battery, the trim goes down immediately. Connected a new switch. Still goes down only and when pressed up, makes a clicking sound at the relays it has 2...switched out the relays, still goes only down. From the tilt motor there is only 2 wires coming out with ground. Directly connected battery to motor with green wire, goes down. Connected blue wire and it started to go up!!!! But when I reconnected all back, connected the battery and 😡 only goes down immediately without the switch being activated!!
    Please help

    • @greatestskills7447

      Fill it up, put a drain pan under it, run it up an down a few times till the all the air works it self out top it off replace the plug.

      @devonsilkwood2073 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greatestskills is there any way to bleed them without trimming it down. My motor will not trim down at all. I'm not sure what the problem is

    • @greatestskills7447
      @greatestskills7447  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      crack open the manual release screw if it wont go down then and cant be pushed down by pushing down on the lower unit something is binding where it pivots. if it goes down with the manual release open, fill it and bleed it probably low on fluid, if the motor only runs going up its something electrical.

      I'm sure you have learned by now that harbor freight does not have the correct wrench. He was using a grinder wrench , for changing disc on grinders, that is why he had to destroy his cap with a hacksaw and hammer .
