a removable steering wheel hub is probably the solution to your problem of getting in and out of it. Great project!! Looking forward to see all your solutions on this small veichle
yeah, he could even do it further down the shaft having the steering wheel on an 'extension' that way he does not have to worry about stabbing himself in the baby maker with a steering shaft as he gets in!
You should definitely put in a roll bar for head protection and I dare you to hook up the headlights to the steering wheel so the headlights actually look in the same direction.
you dont put roll bars on 4 wheelers.... so why put one on here... at some point you just have to accept some risk and be aware of your abilities and situation your riding in.... If he puts one in i cant argue with being safe but i hope he doesnt.
@@wingtipsworld5909 on a 4 wheeler you are sitting on it, and you can come off it. In this, you are encapsulated inside it. You have seen how hard it is to get in to it, so if it rolled over you are not going to be thrown off, you will stay inside with your head poking out the top, which when it lands on the ground upside down = no more neck and lights out.
Awesome that you're doing another mini project, Baja bug is perfect, excited to watch the build. I really think you should cut away the part of the roof between the back window and the sunroof, then you can move your seating position much further back, without impacting the bugs profile/proportions. You could sit lower in the frame and build a hoop that will actually protect your head. you don't want to have to drive it half throttle in constant fear of rolling it. I'm sure you'll nail it, good luck with the build.
I think you should cut out the barrier between the open roof and the rear window so you can put the seat back as far as you need and then for the rear roll par make it an actual roll bar that'll go over your head and make a safe place between the top of that bar and the front bar so you actually survive a roll over if it ever happens.
This is what I was thinking, but it's gonna have tons of weight at the back wheels already. Gotta keep the seat somewhat centered to keep pressure on the steer tires
Cut the bar out behind your neck and move the seat back. Make custom headers that does not stick out far so you can move the engine as close to the seat as possible.
If he makes "custom headers" his 95hp will drop to like 35-40. You can't just mess with a 2 stroke exhaust.. especially a 3-1, and even more especially with a XLT engine
@@CobaltOntarioadventures As long as the pipes are similar diameter, similar length, and have smooth bends it should not impact performance. They do not need to go straight out like that... otherwise no 2 stroke motor cycles could get similar power. They just laid it out like this because it was in a snowmobile.
Go with a high back seat and inset it into the rear top along with an integrated rollbar. Add a removeable steering wheel and you should be able to get in and out. Starting with a seat allows you to engineer in space for you.
Im kinda stoked to see this one go together!! Id love to see you run the exhaust under the engine, then up the back like the VW powered Baja stingers...

I own a 74 Beetle Baja myself, loving this project, and your correct you really can adjust a lot, I would even go as far as to say cutting that fiberglass in half around where the door line would be on a actual bug and extending it 4-6 inches back, since its fiberglass it is very easy to manipulate and make changes ( my car is half fiberglass ) ofc whatever you choose wil be awesome, i also agree on a roll ball for a possible head rest and some roll over protection, safer it is the more fun you can possible have. that all being sad can't wait to see how you decide to tackle this project.
Chris I'm so ready for a smaller project like this ome!! The progress will be faster than a huge build! Hopefully not a year long timeliness! Love this
Awesome idea and start of what looks to be a cool build, Chris!! If I was asked what to do, I'd suggest 2 weeks of body work and cut that body in half and make it at least 8" longer.
Cool looking concept, I think even cutting the bug shell in half width ways then lengthening it by around 250 - 300mm, giving loads more leg/arm & head room. Obviously way more work but most likely a better & more comfortable ride. I agree on a roll bar behind head, a death machine without it. Loving your work as always. Been watching & subscribed for a while now. Great Stuff !
Couple ideas for you Chris that you may not have considered. The bug is tiny, maybe go off a tiny designed bug say an rc instead of an actual bug. If you build neft bars you can drop that frame a few inches and still not see it. Lastly check motomules golf cart for suspension ideas. I do believe that glass body would really look the "RC" part by doing those extended A arms. I'm all ready in love with this build! I've done a few gokart bodies in my days. Next for me is vw bus. I'm gathering parts now. Can not wait to see this one blasting around the track.
Omg this is gonna look so cool, I did not expect this project, but I ain't complaining :) Please continue doing what you're doing bro, I love watching you build such amazing vehicles.
Put a small head hoop / roll bar behind your head mate.. It will look awesome and keep one of our favorite youtubers walking and breathing in case of accident, because "just don't crash" doesn't always work. I love it, looking forward to this build..
So super excited to see this thing take shape!!! Put a ROLLBAR behind your head!!! Who cares about looks. If you make this thing as badass as I know you will, you need protection for your head and neck! SUPER STOKED TO SEE THIS !!!!!
this is going to be so cool. I LOVE miniature functional car builds. Powerwheels, etc. They're a metric tonne of fun. Also, I'm really curious about where you got this body from.
You could totally mod the fiberglass to suit where you want to sit and wheel travel, etc. there are a million TH-cam videos on fiberglass work and you could add another skill into your maker toolbox. Love the build. keep up the fantastic work!
Amazing project! How about removing the "roof" behind your neck? i don't think it would look bad at all and you'll have way more room in there. Also, won't the roof hurt your neck and shoulders while leaning in corners? if you removed the whole roof (encludin the pillars) and just use tubular rollcage it would probably be way safer especially whit that monster in the back? i was just thinking out loud btw Cheers
This is exactly the type of builds I love to see. Grave digger nija, barbie jeep, Colonel senders . I love the power wheels size toys. This thing is going to be awesome! I have faith in ya. You will make something bad ass with this.
My first thought was to suggest putting a roll hoop in above head height. But in reflection I reckon making the roll cage a foot taller and just jacking the body up would make sense and maybe get your head further inside, certainly your shoulders...
We all saw the perfect decapitated position. Build that hoop for your head brother we like watching your builds. Keep up the good work buddy. Your folks deserve a lot of credit. ❤
I wish the VW body was bigger so you could put the motor under the body. Not sticking outside the car. Actually, make it into a beast and mount the engine under you with huge tires. Mini monster VW bug. Woo HOO go big or go home. Any ways I'm done. I know whatever you come up with will look great and I will enjoy every minute watching the fabrication. Keep up the good work!
Seeing a lot of comments already made that I agree with. No substitutes for safety. High back seat with 5 point harness, Race wheel hub, formula style roll cage around the head. If this is fast enough we could lose this dude and I happen to kind of like his content. Lol. That being said I really think this will be an awesome build. Looking forward to seeing this thing on wheels no matter what he decides to do.
