Unfortunately, the latest Shape's Gye nets my tackle shop has in have a loop instead of a circular net frame, which is not as rigid. Who on earth at Shape's decided this was a good idea?
You’re mixing your right and left up! A right handed angler needs to have the net release on his left side so he can still hold the rod in his right whilst playing the fish and release the net with his left.

Because the teardrop shape sits better behind the back and doesn't stick out as much
@CleddauFly Perhaps slightly, but when netting a big or even medium size salmon, the tear drop frame flexes much more than the old circular one.
