I own a 1988 Eldorado with the Biarritz option. Loaded with power moon roof and sport wheels. Exterior is white with the quarter top, interior is maroon. For a thirty year old car it gets lots of looks. Mine has never been winter driver and is in excellent shape. Say what you want but it's a great car. It costs a few bucks to maintain but it is a Cadillac and is worth investing a few dollars into.
If yours has the sports alloy wheels, you should look at the MSO tag sticker on the spare tire cover in the truck. In 1988, i believe that the alloy wheels only came on the upgrade FE2 suspension as the test car did in this exact video. Nowhere on the car does it say FE2 as the base suspension was FE1. Only the sport alloy wheels gives the optional FE2 sport suspension away. Only about 10% of all Eldorados came with the upgraded sport suspension. And even far fewer that were Biarritzs. Almost 98% of Biarritz's came with the standard softer FE1 suspension. If yours is equipment with that upgraded FE2 sports suspension that you have a very very very very rare 1988 Eldorado Biarritz.
sad day when the last eldorado rolled off the assembly line, there hasnt been no other cadillac like it since then CTS tried to make up for it but nothing can stand up to the legendary eldorado
This guy obviously hates the "traditional" car buyer, Ironically, He's easily 20 years older than me (and I mean this in real time as I'm sure he's 70 or so by now...) I was in my 20s when all these "older buyer" cars were new. I'm not saying This ELDO was my dream car (I actually had the even more "old man" Brougham.) So even as I am younger than then current Yuppie, I still love "traditional luxury cars".
+WAQWBrentwood I didn't get that feeling at all by him. Remember..he is reporting on this car based on their test figures..not his personal opinion. All the points he made were factual..so if you were looking for an opinion piece this isn't what Motorweek does. They just report the facts.
***** See..your my kind of guy. My first car was a 1982 Lincoln Mark VI Signature Series Coupe. And I was barely in my early 20's when I bought that car. Loved, loved, loved that car! I still miss it to this day..and probably would still have it if some jerk hadn't stole it. To me..those early large bodied coupes were the way to go. And like you mentioned..the bigger ElDo's and Coupe DeVille's were awesome. I still would love to own both of those cars to this day. But then GM downsized them all..and they became the perfect cars for well-to-do women who didn't like parking the bigger coupes. I also find that most people who insult the bigger Cadillac or Lincoln coupes have actually never driven one..or been driven in one. I think if they could just feel how comfortable these cars were they would change their minds. It wasn't about the speed..or sportiness..or handling with these cars..which they did well enough. It was about driving around in what felt like a Lazy Boy chair..which meant you always arrived refreshed and relaxed no matter how long you were driving on the road. I still miss my Lincoln to this day..and sadly..all the ones I now see for sale are either in horrible shape..or are priced out of my budget if they were taken care of.
This was not my dream car when new, But by comparison, Any of the Cadillacs now are a let down. To be honest, I'd seriously consider an "M" body Chrysler 5th Avenue to be a more worthy "Cadillac" than anything Cadillac since 1992. My 84 Park Avenue agrees!
There's still a market for comfortable cars. Unfortunately, since the 1980's the market has been brainwashed in to thinking that a friggin buckboard ride and Spartan styling IS luxury. (BMW,ETC...) How else does one explain how a $70,000 car sells with an interior with the "charm" of a '72 Nova? Oh, Well. I like fun handling cars too, but like comfortable "American road cars" more (In city traffic and long trips) So, Give me a 1966 Chevrolet Corvair just for fun weekend driving, And a 1977 Buick Limited for daily service!
***** Oh man..I remember test driving a really beat up 1979 Lincoln Continental Town Car. I was bored and had time to spare..and I passed by it on a really junky car sales lot. It was black..and was very beat up looking. But I thought..what the hell..let me see if the damn thing starts. Well it started..and I was warned the brakes were shot..but that I could test drive it. Off I went..and I just couldn't believe it: It felt like I was riding on a cloud..a literal cloud. My Mark VI couldn't even come close to riding that softly..and I was totally amazed. So you are a lucky man indeed if you have one of these beauties. And you have a Coupe DeVille too? Stop..I think I'm falling in love..lol!
i had an 89 , the motor is smooth and trouble free. not very powerful but the car is built like a mini brick shit house. the interior is very nice, very cold ac all digital . a really nice comfy cruiser. i averaged 16 mpg around town and 23 highway.
Chaka Khan baby Chaka Khan, Chaka Khan that's all I wanna do.Chaka Khan I feel for you.I didn't know she went to work for Motor week after her singing career.LOL
Lo e my restoration, awesome shape. Stored for 22 years. Now she lives again black with red leather. She was 20 years ahead of her time when built. Downsizing was a big mistake back than....
I own a beautiful Eldorado biarritz, fabulous condition! trust me, this car will never get 17mpg in town!! the best I've got was 14mpg on the highway, with a.c off! well, I guess if you can afford an Eldorado, one isn't concerned about mileage. lol
***** Actually it was from the 80's, bro. The fringe was popular on leather, denim and suede especially. This page explains it too: www.inthe80s.com/clothes/pretonnicaolcom0.shtml
colintechnics I do remember many optional equipment like intermittent wipers and tilt steering wheel became standard. Even reclining driver and passenger seats were optional!
17 mpge city?? please... my 89,that's in very fine condition only gets, maybe 13 in town, with windows down... still no complaints! after all it's a CADILLAC!! 🍾🍾🍾🏳️🌈
Even a moron who doesn't know the difference between a Cadillac and a VW knows that last of the great Eldos was pre 1985. I guess you are in a class all your own.....pre-moron.
She was fine.Actually worked out for her.The car had about 150000 miles on it and since everything electrical was toast she told the insurance company it had 20000 miles on it and got quite a few bucks more than it was worth
+mjobermeyer09 Yea..but your Versa is the bottom of the heap when it comes to quality, ride and interior comfort. Ride in this Caddy and you'll figure out really quick that acceleration isn't everything..but luxury features are. It's the difference between just getting somewhere..and getting somewhere in style and comfort.
bad engine made of aluminum the cylinders are crap in them tons of problems. 55.000 miles i needed new piston rings burned oil like crazy .bad engine design.
Mine has 115k, just had valve work done, sat for 20 years in her garage, stored properly, ut still needed some work, I ter al engine was spotless when inspected, no sludge period. Now she runs flawlessly. She has had her cooling system , efire storage, every year, plus the 2 tabs. It's quite a tight and very rare ride. Antique tags on her, a true survivor , original paint, o rings or corrosion anywhare. A keeper. Totally reworked the chassie, not cheap but well worth it!

88 was the start of the new redone engine 4.5 and it's a excellent engine, glad you are enjoying your Cadillac
The car is in winter storage and will be till May,,,, I will have a look at it than but thanks for the info....@@klwthe3rd
It's a shame most of these are in the wrecking yards. Cool car
I just love these videos, used to have a few VHS tapes but lost track of them.
I daily drive an 88 Eldorado. It's a great little coupe.
Very beautifull Cadillac Eldorado 1988, my year favorite
the 4.5 was a very good engine, huge improvement from the 4.1 that had issues
The 4.5 V8 is 155 hp and 280 LB-Ft torque, is great engine. Cadillac Eldorado, is comfortable, equiped and true Cadillac Style
@@fernandorocha8459 the 4.5 and the updated 4.9 were Cadillacs least warranty issue engine.
Yes far better improved. It was like a totally different engine.
sad day when the last eldorado rolled off the assembly line, there hasnt been no other cadillac like it since then CTS tried to make up for it but nothing can stand up to the legendary eldorado
@ 5:08 the mileage is 666.

@ 4:33 so nice of Rick James to make a Cameo on Motorweek
Beautifull Cadillac Eldorado 88, my favorite
I had an '88 Lincoln LSC. I wish I could put the engine from the LSC into an '88-'91 Eldorado Biarritz.
The model thinks "I'm gonna make sure the TV viewers remember me!"
I still say it's a nice looking Caddy Eldorado.
i had an 89 , the motor is smooth and trouble free. not very powerful but the car is built like a mini brick shit house. the interior is very nice, very cold ac all digital . a really nice comfy cruiser. i averaged 16 mpg around town and 23 highway.
The Seville is my favorite very underrated automobile.
Motorweek '88 Cadillac Eldorado Road Test
I love that lady's jean jacket...
Beautiful small cadillac
The '86-'87 Eldorado looked sleeker. Especially the tail lights/rear end.
I love Cadillac Eldorado 86, 87 and 88 is my year favorite
Really? I think the 86 eldo is one of the ugliest cadillacs ever made
The
That is one foxy sister!
i wonder if it floated over the bumpy stuff better than the '88 deville?
isn't that the truth...you look today at cadillacs and think what they used to be...I miss it the old days with the Fleetwood, Eldorado, and DeVille
Don't forget the Seville :)
The car from the side looked like it was a 2+2 instead of a true 4 seater. I like the car though.
4:55 53 year old buyers isn’t to bad.
The 80's were not kind to Cadillac.
overpricing did a lot to it
Chaka Khan baby Chaka Khan, Chaka Khan that's all I wanna do.Chaka Khan I feel for you.I didn't know she went to work for Motor week after her singing career.LOL
geeezzz a baby caddy
very nice car,I have one 1988

Tuğkan abinin arabası eyhhhh🚬
Even when it was new it looked like a $2000 used car.
I had a 1988 Eldorado it didn't last long ... everything went wrong with it ... I would never buy another Cadillac again !
The Eldordrado Name Was First Know inn The year 1953
I own a beautiful Eldorado biarritz, fabulous condition!

4:40 lmao, wtf is up with that jacket ?
+smithraymond09029 That was the style back then! And you have to admit it looks a lot better than the generic crap you see women wearing today..lol.

hmmm no memory seats...last year the passenger side wasnt powered?? wierd
Passenger power seat was optional.
Frederick Rothe III just surprised it was optional of the TOTL caddy coupe

still no complaints!
after all it's a CADILLAC!!
🍾🍾🍾🏳️🌈
the fenders look ridiculous on that short wheelbase. like a little kid wearing their daddies suit.
the 90s Eldorado was much better proportioned
The car was an embarrassment back then, and still an embarrassment now.
Can you be a bit more clueless please?

My first car. had it 3 days before it caught fire. made $$ on it and bought an Acura. MUCH better :-)
+Lavaman3682 My Aunt had 1 and it caught on fire also.
Hope she was ok!

Funny, so did I!
Cadillac Elder-blah-do
My versa does 0-60 faster.
+mjobermeyer09 That was the problem with all cars during of the 70s and 80s era. The power didn't come back untill the 90s and to current.

try that now with one of the newer caddies, you couldn't out run a toaster in a versa
