I wish ‘lighthouse keeper’ was a job that was still an option for a young and ambitious go-getter like myself 😰
I know exactly what you mean.
My friend of the family my kids called ‘Grandpa Ray’ was a lighthouse keeper. One of the last before they were all automated. I remember getting him ready for 3 month shifts out there on the islands. Going shopping for all the food he’d need. He drove school bus for events on his off time and had served in the Navy during his youth.
His wife ran a bed and breakfast.
They saved all they could and were able to go on some trips they’d always wanted to before the insurance became to expensive because of his age. (He was 10-15 years older than her and passed away 4 years ago😢)
I mean to be fair, the old guy could of gave him a better warning lol
Yeah, this happens in a lot of this style of story: vague warnings, but no explanations. Then the warning gets ignored, and the excrement hits the spinning blades . . .

I'm from Ohio. 👋 My husband and I went to NY once. Luckily I didn't have to drive. He went for a work meeting and his boss had him drive him there. At the time we were living in Michigan. Traffic and prices are crazy there! He was driving a suburban with a 20 foot enclosed trailer and people were walking through the two!

Nothing about that sounds like northern Germany. Maybe the UP of Michigan, but not Germany.
Or, better yet, just say "someplace in Canada". Not only would the names and accents work better there, but there are vast stretches of absolute nothing, which helps as a setting for horror, and perhaps there was no community there at all until sea traffic and modern lighthouses came in the past few hundred years. Most German cities are older than lighthouses as we think of them now, and the question would naturally arise why the community had not been wiped out by evil mermaids centuries ago.

@@JordanGrupe If you say so. "Mr. Wallace" is not a particularly common name for a German. Also, I note you don't say that the person who wrote it is actually German. I have lived in Germany, and during that time I knew US military personnel who were stationed there but who had little reason to believe they were not in Michigan. They rarely left the base, lived off the US dollar, and never spoke anything but English. So, yeah, maybe the author lives in Germany, just like they did.

I love your stories and narrations, but please turn up the volume on your recording. Your narration is so quiet that I have to turn it up rather high to hear your voice and then I get woken up by the blaring volume of other stories I have in the playlist.
