Crazy bus's main menu song sounds the way it does because crazy bus was a tech demo for the BASIC programming language where all you do is drive a bus back and forth and honk the horn. Somehow though, that got ported to the sega genesis and in proper tech demo fashion, the entire main menu song is randomly generated musical garbage. So I covered it anyway.

I feel like all these years of being a musician, learning music production and diving into countless TH-cam videos has led me to this exact moment, the apex of the human experience.
I know the creator of Crazy Bus. He's a really good programmer and the 'game' was part of many things he made for fun back in college. Why busses? He really likes them, he's like an otaku for busses on top of being a regular otaku.
The game was 'ported' to the Genesis because he was a very active member of a rom hack forum mainly focused on Sonic games, so he surmises someone must've picked it from there and then it took a life of its own. Technically speaking the game was built from the ground up as a Genesis rom hack and always meant to run on real hardware. Also he didn't write all the code for the music, he adjusted and repurposed some code he found on a rom hack toolset. Lastly the game has 2 versions, the first one that started the meme and version 2.0 which he made afterwards and added extra pictures and adjusted the code a bit.
I remember the 1st time he showed Crazy Bus to me, I asked if he had made any games and he proudly said yes. Man he had some really loud speakers in his dorm room... When I asked him what he did to make it sound like that he just said 'that's the secret sauce'.

@@theonlybilge I don't know how I can prove such thing without infringing on his privacy, which he takes very seriously. I met him because we lived in the same residence back in college and we became good friends, that was over 10 years ago.
I remember all of this because it has been surreal watching it grow. Like I used to watch a lot of Screwattack content to learn English, especially AVGN, and I introduced it to him. I said his game was so shit it belonged in a AVGN episode but told him it'd never happen because his game was a rom hack. Years later when the nerd make an episode on his game we were like 'Dude wtf, is this real life?', he felt very proud of the whole thing even though he had nothing to do with putting the game on a cartridge or creating the box art, etc. He jokingly says he wishes the people who made it would send him a copy.
To this day he's still surprised people make content about his game and the meme it has become.

I know how unhuman the original Crazy Bus theme is. Literally something that should've sounded like SOMETHING but became a mish-mash of tones with LITERALLY no rhyme or reason.
The fact you took that song and argentized it (I'm calling that now) but making it sound like something that people would just go mental in a mosh pit is something else. Literally this sounds great. I don't know how you did it but wow. Perhaps Mick Gordon knew you could make it sound good.
Anybody watch Mick's GDC presentation where he made the foundation of the DOOM music by putting in Sine waves into all those crazy effects/pedals/etc? I was expecting something more like that where you input Crazy Bus audio and result in something crazier
