The problem isn’t just the fact that players who were sold weren’t replaced properly. It’s that Man city have set such a high standard that other teams in the league now know they have to seriously up their game to match them. It’s not that city haven’t been good this season, they’ve been quite good. Have lost one champions league game so far. The real problem is that other teams are carefully structuring their teams to counter exactly how city play. And as an arsenal fan, I don’t blame them. We can’t just look at them and let ‘em win all the trophies. It’s unfair and unreasonable that they’ll stay up forever. However, let’s not delude ourselves into thinking they won’t bounce back once De Bruyne is back. That whole February till end of season run from last season still haunts me.

In 2022/23 summer, City were net positive in their window and if you look at wage bills, its average has been 215-220m/season (before bonuses). If you look at last season, on top of normal revenue, City pulled in nearly 300m in prize money. So i dont think its that.
