I have a 2015 and did not know about the cp4 . when i was in the usa the pump failed .we ended up transporting it back to Canada .Then i did my research on this and found out i needed to change to CP3 We are renewing pipes pumps and injectors as the injectors were affected and we will add the extra aftermarket filter system .If I'd only known before i could've saved myself a lot of MONEY .Mileage on truck 125,000 KM
While you had the coolant drained and the fan and shroud remove, it would have been a great time to separate the rad and intercooler to properly clean out the fins of the rad and intercooler. They can hold a crazy amount of dirt, fine grass and debris causing inefficient cooling. Would only take an extra hour at that point and prevent accidental damage to the rad.
funny, i had the compression fitting that was supposed to prevent a leak on the supply line end up leaking, had to tear it back down again and tightened it up and fixed the leak, reused all the gaskets and everything seems fine now...
You didn't de-burr the inside of either tube. One wrench was too small, the other was too big. The compression fitting can be tightened, them loosened to allow install, to keep from losing the ferrels.
Dan, you need to deburr the inside of the pipe before you clean it. Also, a file is designed to be used on the push stroke only. You dull the file quickly if you're pulling it backward across the metal.
Being that the file is super hard and that tube is really soft it wont make any difference on the life of the file. It will last a lifetime using it the way he is.
I have a 2013 Chevy Express 3500 Diesel 6.6 with 68k miles. Looking to upgrade my fuel pump. As it says these duramax pumps fail. Which should I upgrade to ? I am in CA
Great video. I had a local shop install this S&S conversion kit, and ever since, the truck starts and dies 8 seconds later. I have to re-prime the filter button about 20 pumps, and it starts and runs fine. The next day, most of the time, it does the same thing. The shop cant figure it out. Could it be that stock fuel connection that they didnt change out to the compression fitting? We have replaced the vaccum sensor, the fuel filter housing, and the test port schrader valve. None of this has helped. Additionally, they told me the pressurized the fuel system and looked for leaks and didnt find any.
Are you running a lift pump on your truck? It is recommended to run a lift pump on these CP3 conversions to provide a positive supply of fuel to the injection pump and we have not seen any issues like you are describing when using a lift pump.
I finally had to pay the shop to install a lift pump to force the bad fitting to leak. As soon as they put the lift pump on the valley flooded with diesel, and it started puddling under the truck. Thanks to the dmax store for this post or the shop I used would still not know what was wrong
I'm dealing with the EXACT SAME ISSUE! Started with losing prime weekly to daily. Replaced pretty much every part like you did. Finally installed a lift pump and all of a sudden I have this leak from the same fitting in the valley. Pulled it apart, put the wrenches to the damn thing, throwing torque specs and caution to the wind, I gave it all I had. Now the leak is much smaller but still there. My compression fitting is due to deliver today so back in there I go. What a PITA! @@stevemccracken8506
I finally completed the installation of the compression fitting. This was the 3rd time diving into this thing. I can pretty much tear into the top of the engine blindfolded now. The biggest issue I had was once removing the Y bridge I had to figure out how to remove the two halves of the stainless fuel line so I could cut them to prepare for the compression fitting. The line from the valley to the fuel filter was easy since it was part of the original install. The back half was a serious PITA to get out! What you don't see in this video is what you have to do to get that thig out. Remove the turbo coolant line (banjo fitting) from the side of the turbo, disconnect everything attached to the return fuel line to free it up to move it out of the way and remove the fuel line mount. Loosen the high pressure line fitting that runs right over the fuel line you are trying to remove. If you do all of this then you can work it out. 7 hours later I was turning the key once again. The good news is that my leak is gone!
Having the same problem with the compression fitting thanks for posting this when I installed the new line I started my lift pump to check for leaks and had the same issue. Tried to loosen and re torque to spec and no dice. What kind of compression firing is that? Looks like the line is .5 inch OD Thanks for the Video!
That pump is made to match the factory CP4 so you wouldn't get any more power from this pump. You would want to upgrade to a tuning required pump if you are looking for more power.
Great video . Keep them coming...What HP will this S&S pump support Incase someone would like to run emissions intake tune ? I know Exergy offers a 10mm CP4 pump that Duramaxtuner recommends. Would this be a better option? Thanks
Dmax Store That’s plenty . Trying to decide when I do go for a new pump which direction to go. I’m good friends with Austin, we worked together at the Mercedes dealer . Im a tech over there. Just not sure I want to tackle it . What would it cost to have you guys do it ? Just curious if I don’t do it myself. Thanks , Heeb
I just installed this kit. Is there suppose to be an extra plug? I notice the cp4 has 2 plugs going in to it. Cp3 only has 1. What do we do with the extra plug?
Doing the same install to my truck right now except mine is a 10mm CP3 with the doser line. How much HP do you think before that single injector line becomes a bottleneck? I know in another comment you saw your truck was dropping rail pressure occasionally but looks like the lift pump helped that. Also what percentage of installs did you have leaks from that fitting? Looks like it’s the low pressure side so hopefully I can test before bolting everything back up.
To have a diesel you can drive in all 48 states... I feel ya, but we are past those times. Delete if you want but be ready to re install after 1 stop from troopers.
The quality of the product is great and obviously the fit and finish is good. The only drawback we have noticed is that pulling a load under heavy throttle up a hill it can drop rail pressure. We have since installed an AirDog II-4G lift pump and it has solved the issue. Other than that it is a great product.
Hey i have a 2015 LML. Almost at 100k miles and have been considering this swap. I have a full delete and efi live. I dont give a crap about CARB and meeting an emissions standard. Same pump? What do u charge to do? Two days in the shop?
This one is not, there are other options that are available for your set up though. for more info feel free to send me an email and I will get you pointed in the right direction, jaked@dmaxstore.com
The pipe that S&S provides is custom to fit the CP3 pump. You can only buy the GM pipe in a set already assembled together and they list that part as a one time use. The fitting that is on that pipe is not made to be disconnected and connected again as it will leak as we saw in multiple of these CP3 installs. The compression fitting is a much more reliable way to connect these pipes.

Why not use a flare fitting to mate the hoses? Is the pipe too heavy for a flaring tool?
If you can make a new line then why can't you do what should be done so you don't have to cut lines?
Question. Wouldn't it be a good idea to use anti seize on those compression fitting threads? I'm about to do this installation myself.
No, we do not recommend running anti-seize on the threads. There is no reason to take the fitting off after it is installed.

We use a 1/2" 316 SS Compression Union
Where is this shop located? I'm considering doing this swap now versus waiting until the CP4 has issues.
Duramax Service Center in in Diamond Springs CA

I just installed this kit. Is there suppose to be an extra plug? I notice the cp4 has 2 plugs going in to it. Cp3 only has 1. What do we do with the extra plug?
Nevermind, figured it out. Temp sensor in the cp4 needs to be removed and plugged in to the 2nd molex. Zip tie it to the intake manifold.
What color wires go into the pump? The yellow n black or the double brown?

What's the point of having a diesel if you have to keep the emmisons
To have a diesel you can drive in all 48 states... I feel ya, but we are past those times. Delete if you want but be ready to re install after 1 stop from troopers.
I’m wonder why the Cp3 doesn’t have a recall?
Because the CP3 doesn't fail and scatter metal throughout the entire fuel system.
Great video very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
How is the new CP3 working out guys?
Any additional feedback after having it in for a few months? Great video as well.

Yes, it will match the factory psi up to 29,000 psi
where did you get the stainless compression fitting and what size is it?
I have the same truck as you are working, I'm also in Calif. What is the labor cost? Thanks
Hi Ron,
Go ahead and email jaked@dmaxstore and we would be happy to work on a quote for you!

For the non CARB legal kits, which we do not offer installation on, the pump is actually different as the 9th injector is no longer needed.
With a regular cp3 and keeping all emissions are you still able to do a small tune or no. Need the tuneable cp3?
You can still run a tune with the 50 state legal kit.
2011 133k mile, Duramax, at this time what do you charge for install? I live in Az but can drive to Ca
I have the 2011 too.
I got one concern when you cut that line with the hacksaw I never seen you clean the inside of the pipe out with a round file or something like that?
Yes we did clean the pipe and flushed it out to ensure no debris or burrs were on the pipe.
Good deal
How’s this pump working out for y’all? I’ve got one on the way
We have this same kit on multiple of our own trucks here with no complaints, we have been running both for almost a year.
Is your CP3 conversion kit compatible with a partial or full delete?
This one is not, there are other options that are available for your set up though. for more info feel free to send me an email and I will get you pointed in the right direction, jaked@dmaxstore.com
just taking a shot in the dark here. does this work for the 2012 f350 6.7l super duty? or is the a way to get it to work fir the f350?
No it does not work on a Ford. S&S makes a bypass kit for those trucks but I don’t think it is possible to do a CP3 conversion.
@@Dmaxstore Thank you very much for the info!
15:15 😳 Why didn't you use the right size wrench? I hope this isn't your normal level of attention to detail.
Lol.. Maybe you should ask for your money back on the video.
I was told you will also need a lift pump if you go to the CP3, can you confirm this?
Yes, we always install a lift pump with CP3 conversions.
If you don’t pull any heavy loads would you still recommend the lift pump
Will my ecm need to be flashed or can i run thia on a stock lml?
This kit was made to be a factory replacement so you can run it on your stock vehicle without any tuning!
Straight forward swap just time consuming
Why don't gm recall that pump that blows up
Mine just blew. 80k miles 2015 6.6 duramax
Does it require any programming? What makes cp3 more resistant to wear than CP4? Thought it was the low sulfer content in fuel causing the problem?
Head over to s&s youtube channel for the pumps breakdowns
The cp3 is better then a cp4 ?? Thanks
Yes, CP4 is not as reliable.

Because that doesn't always work, we have had a couple customers that have had the metal get past that debris stopper.
Those compression fittings fail
We have seen much better reliability from the compression fittings than without.
GM shit the bed with where they put things in these motors. Common failure pieces in the worst spots, turbo buried in the valley.
