Scott, your delivery has become so polished that it won’t be long (unless it’s already happened) before TV producers come offering contracts and a new show. You’re much better than any of the people I’ve seen on This Old House, Barn Wood Builders and the like, to name but a few. I actually hope that you just keep doing what you’re doing because it’s genuine and self-generated as opposed to having to work with a writer, director, producer, makeup people, agents, lawyers, and publicity and media people. In other words, your life becomes not your own and you turn into a commodity whose value is based on various metrics, all having to do with viewership and the bottom line, $$$. So thank you for what you do and I hope you keep doing things your way. ☮️🍎
Scott, do you ever take time to reflect on how many lives you fill a void in? Whether it be a lost father, uncle, grandfather, etc., you remind so many people of a special loved one they have lost. I see this stated over and over in the comments. I appreciate your time and efforts posting all these videos. Just know they are so much more than videos, they are reflections into people's past. Thank you for the gift ideas too.
@greglawrence742 I was just thinking the same this morning when this channel popped up on my youtube totally reminded me of my daddy❤especially the nice ornery clever smile Thanks for popping into my life this morning and for the good cry essential craftsman keep up the good work ❤ Tin-mans Daughter KK
Commercialization starts in June to July. Your list is awesome. I’m still a fan of the Bosch laser measurer; we use them on our investigations. I’ve been using the Gerber for years but have thought about going back to the Leatherman: as a kid I carried the Buck 110 and lost it.
I can absolutely vouch for the 3M WorkTunes headphones. I used to avoid the workshop and powertools due to crippling hearing sensitivity. I can now spend hours in the shop with routers, grinders, circular saws, and not have any headache or fatigue. No flinching from loud bangs etc. And the phone call clarity is amazing, I routinely chat while I'm tidying up even outdoors in the wind. Like sunglasses for your ears.
I stumbled on your channel a couple of years ago and liked it immediately. It reminds me of working with my dad as a teenager building cabinets for the kitchen or tearing down old buildings to use the materials for projects. Keep up the good work
I see the shops start selling Christmas decorations and gift ideas from as early as the start of October.. and 2 weeks after Christmas, they start putting Easter eggs out. I wonder how these religious celebrations went from that to buy buy buy. As a father in my 40's with 5 young children under 10, I would much rather have a card they've made out of scrap paper laying around. I feel sorry for the guy who breaks into my safe. All they will find is my kids' colouring in and homemade cards 😂. These are my most valuable possessions. I think that this child has nothing to give but their love for drawing and colouring in and then giving it to you. Wow, what a gift 😊. Here in Australia, we celebrate Fathers Day on the 1st Sunday in September. I forgot it was Fathers days and 1 of the girls came outside and gave me a homemade card, I honestly had to hold back my tears. That's how special they are to me. May God protect all our children.
I see to feel like you about “early Christmas” celebrations, then I realized how happy it makes my wife. I was selfish and realized that the love of my life for over 35 years got so much joy out of it and I was depriving her of that. It still annoys me slightly, but I love her more than myself, so I let it go. I suggest you give it a try, if you find yourself in the same situation, maybe no one else is in my predicament. Enjoy life and allow yourself to be like a child again!!
Your video came up in my feed and since my husband is a contractor who is hard to buy for I watched hoping for ideas. Unfortunately he already has almost all of the items you mentioned LOL I did want to say how much I appreciated you mentioning how sacred our celebration of Christmas should be and not being afraid to share a little of your faith online. It’s refreshing, especially when there are so many negative messages out there! Also, your dad joke was top notch! 😂 May you and your family have a blessed holiday season as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.
Love it! Couple other ideas: a good knife is usually beloved by people who work with their hands. Both nice kitchen knives and folding knives (I’m a Spyderco fan) apply here, especially if you can figure out what they do and don’t yet have. Good optics are also awesome. A good jeweler’s loupe isn’t too expensive for things near; good binoculars are great for things far if you have more budget. And fine leatherwork is great if you have deeper pockets and want to support local craftsmen. Little like a dotingly made belt, watch strap, or bag to bring many years of satisfaction.
Just a recommendation guys and gals go with the Bosch laser measurer. I had the craftsman and for not much more money you get something 10x better. Just as accurate as a good tape and it holds multiple measurements.
Worth a mention about 3M Worktunes, You can order them with gel ear cups instead of the standard foam for a few $ more I think less than $10 of difference and they are worlds more comfortable especially for long term wear and personally I think they seal a little better.
Those things are awesome and discrete. A small piece of electrical tape and nobody sees your listening to Bluetooth with a rather impressive music output. Got them a few years ago, worth every penny.
I love this channel, and I will listen to any advice this guy (Scott, is it?) has to give about building and tools and even life (sometimes). But it does crack me up that a video dedicated to recommending products to buy for Christmas, complete with affiliate links, begins with a lament over the commercialization of the same. It's all good. I don't mind. But it's still funny.
Man, I just realized that I've had the exact same Leatherman (Surge) in my pocket for 15 years. I always knew they had other lines, but everytime "anyone have a leatherman?" Was asked, no ones ever said "oh this one isnt good enough!". The closest to it was "does this one have a phillips head?"
I use the 3m worktunes while I'm logging and splitting firewood. And now that I'm hooked on the dang things, I can't work without them! Great for listening to podcasts while you work!
Pulleys are great. I had to replace like a hundred of them on skylights, but the old ones were still serviceable so I now have a box of 100 pulleys that I'm now thinking of giving to the kids in the family for christmas lol.
I got a set of those 3M Worktunes ear protectors a few years ago. I love them. I use them when mowing grass. I blue-tooth connect them to my phone and listen to audiobooks. Makes the chore go by much faster and protects what hearing I have left.
I went with ISO tunes. They are electronic and allow low level sounds through so you can hear around you and anyone talking or calling you but they filter out the loud, hearing damaging noises. They're also Bluetooth.
I agree EC! eBay has the women's jeans that fit me that aren't sold in retail stores anymore. I've also bought wool coats and men's work clothing that aren't available anymore.
Wonderful gift ideas Scott! However, it's a sad state of affairs that today most men don't have a clue what a hammer is, or even which end to use. You are an inspiration for those of us who do. Keep up the good work.
I just want to say that you are the father I never had. I wish I could spend two weeks under your tutelage. I am a maintenance technician for a global company. It's thanks to your videos that I can do all the facilities maintenance work, at least until they hire another guy. For the time being, though, I can work on 15 thousand ton presses and form concrete partly thanks to you. You are one of the gurus on YT, I am proud to have gone to YTU.
I have a habit of buying multiple copies of clothes that I like. I'm more of a Shorts and a Tank Top guy, but I own 9 pairs of the same shorts, and I think I have about 20 of the same Tank Top (different colors, of course lol). I do the same with shoes. My *boots* are Sketchers Steel Toe Work Shoes, and I own 3 pairs. The pair I'm currently wearing, and 2 new pairs that are in the closet. My *shoes* are and Crocs Literyde. I have 7 pairs of those lol. Probably the worst thing in the world is finding clothes that look and feel good, and then you can't find them anymore. The Ebay tip is a good one. I've recently started collecting old 1990s Starter Coats, and have had good luck with Ebay.
Scott I have been using rechargeable batteries for several years and they are vastly better and never leak. We had a bunch of duracell batteries leak and ruin expensive electronics. Rechargeable are better for the environment.
The leatherman, the work tunes Bluetooth with AM/FM, and a full brim hat are the three items that I use all the time, and I think all people that do real work for a living should have. Btw, if you want to invent something cool make a full brim hat line that works correctly with work tunes on. ✌🏻
I use those bluetooth thermometers/hygrometers at work pretty often, especially in the older buildings that are plagued by humidity issues. Being able to pull out a table of historic data and identify trends is a ton of help. And it's useful for checking against what the BAS is telling you, if you're working in a more modern commercial building.
Thumbs up for pulleys for the kids. My Dad gave me some pulleys as a child and I had hours of fun with them. See also: Meccano kits (if it's still made)
Regarding the battery case idea, I discovered (probably from another youtube channel) that little ammo boxes are perfect for battery storage and they're cheap. You can get an "MTM 50 Round Flip-Top Rifle Ammo Box .222 to .222 Mag" which is perfect for AAA batteries and an "MTM 50 Round Flip-Top Rifle Ammo Box 270 Win 280 Rem 30-06" which is perfect for AA's. The nice thing about these (besides the low cost) is that they hold the batteries vertical and completely isolated from each other. No worries about one battery leaking and ruining any others.
I still have my dads' aluminum hard hat from his summer of logging near Pinedale, Wyo. I wanted a fishing hat found a quality waxed cotton hat near new on ebay. Another good video scott - keep it up- from a like minded fellow.
I like Sensorpush sensors for humidity and temperature. They are connected to my phone without any monthly fee. I can know if e.g. the chest freezer is not keeping temperature and should be defrosted.
That is funny wow, I have a heavy flannel green and black “field and stream” shirt jacket that is slowly distressing, im always reaching for it sping and fall, and cant find another! Never thought to look vintage thank you ! I have hope 😂
I have a two studs finder that are unreliable i usually just use my magnetic one. I have a Bosch laser measuring device, it will save measurements for you and a bunch of other fancy stuff. I use non bluetooth temperature sensors all over my house. The temperature gun is useful for DIY HVAC and automotive work. The battery daddy turned out to be a nice addition although i thought it was dumb at first.
A good hat to buy someone that lives in the northern parts is a Mad Bomber hat, they usually have rabbit fur on the pull down ear flaps and are warm and good for hunters or someone that’s out shoveling snow, they keep your ears warm. In the hard hats, your company may not approve of a metal hard hat but be careful because OSHA doesn’t either.
Instant read thermometers are great, however the temperatures on the back of that thermometer seem to have been written by a lawyer, not a chef. Medium rare beef is 135, not 145. Pork well done is 160 not 170, and per USDA now that trichinosis is no longer a significant concern is OK at 140 where it won't taste like shoeleather.
Mr Scott Chrstions do not celebrate Christmas it's a business and I am not going to ask why or say what is right or wrong but I do love your info alot and that is that We do learn plenty keep up the great work all the best from Trinidad and Tobago in the Carribean WestIndies
Ever thought about having your Mrs do one of these for women’s gifts? Because, brother, you’d be doing mankind a favor.
This needs to be pinned!
they can find a female channel
Gentlemen- I 2nd this!
Great idea. I would say get Nate’s wife as well as Mrs. EC. Two perspectives would help a lot.
Men are mostly the same. Women are all different.
Scott, your delivery has become so polished that it won’t be long (unless it’s already happened) before TV producers come offering contracts and a new show. You’re much better than any of the people I’ve seen on This Old House, Barn Wood Builders and the like, to name but a few. Always happy to keep EC equipped with a proper multi-tool!

You"re SO right about the commercialization of Christmas. Breaks my heart.

I really appreciate this video. Because you included everyone, you advertise your own product without being pushy, and you talk from the heart.
Love it!

Thermoworks for the instant read thermometers - great tools.
I was just using my 3m Worktunes while mulching leaves into my lawn. They work great.

Gift ideas, life advice, dad jokes, Scott’s just got all! 👊🏻🇺🇸
Amen, Brother
This is the most thoughtful and practical gift guide I've ever found.
This is very helpful. Thank you, now I need help with what to get for my wife.
Worth a mention about 3M Worktunes, You can order them with gel ear cups instead of the standard foam for a few $ more I think less than $10 of difference and they are worlds more comfortable especially for long term wear and personally I think they seal a little better.
I've used mine nearly daily for two years. I love em.
Will ditto this
Those things are awesome and discrete. A small piece of electrical tape and nobody sees your listening to Bluetooth with a rather impressive music output. Got them a few years ago, worth every penny.

Thanks again for helping me find gifts for my son-in-laws.
Years ago my wife bought me a used flex seam orvis hat from ebay. Ive been buying there whenever i find one! Good job on the flannel.

Pulleys are great. I had to replace like a hundred of them on skylights, but the old ones were still serviceable so I now have a box of 100 pulleys that I'm now thinking of giving to the kids in the family for christmas lol.
Maybe add a book on tying knots. Pullies, ropes, knots -- there are a lot of things that can be done, especially with a man like Grandpa.
Love this, nothing is better than getting good product advice, I will be sending this video to my wife... lol
I love your good ol’ fashioned wholesome approach on life! You’re a good man.
thanks for lifting up our Bessed Lord and the good gift ideas,
The pulley suggestion for children is such a great idea.
I got a set of those 3M Worktunes ear protectors a few years ago. I love them. I use them when mowing grass. I blue-tooth connect them to my phone and listen to audiobooks. Makes the chore go by much faster and protects what hearing I have left.

15:40 Too true
And as it should be, I get to start off my Saturday with an EC video. Thank You.
It beaks my ❤ as well.
I have a battery buddy and it is the bomb. Can’t go wrong with that gift.
I've had those 3M headphones for a while; Worked great, even after the dog chewed on the left speaker!
As an "upgrade" for the meat thermometer, one could consider Combustion Inc's thermometer. Its designed to be left in the food while it's cooking.
My wife bought me the battery daddy last Christmas love it
I agree with your sentiments entirely but if you keep it small and close family and friends, it can still be wonderful and worth looking-forward to.
Wonderful gift ideas Scott! However, it's a sad state of affairs that today most men don't have a clue what a hammer is, or even which end to use. You are an inspiration for those of us who do. Keep up the good work.
I wish i wouldve had a mentor like you.

tearing up again. thankyou Scott, for all you bring to this channel. You, family, friends.... audience. God bless us, Everyone!
Your video never dissapoints. Thank you for being a great person!
Congrats on the patent!!!
I have one of the battery daddy's, great gift idea for someone else - filled of course 👍
I'd love to see one of those aprons made for woodworkers
Thanks for the ideas. It’s amazing some of the new tools that come out as technology continues to advance.

Home Depot carries the Battery Daddy. I love mine!
Thank you Scott, For putting this video out each year. I really look forward to it and the useful information/ideas within.
Those temp/humidity sensors are great when getting a new fridge/freezer. Make sure it's set right
Thank you, Scott. Keep up the good work.
Loved the ending with the hats show-off :-) Always something new with Scott!
Scott I have been using rechargeable batteries for several years and they are vastly better and never leak. We had a bunch of duracell batteries leak and ruin expensive electronics. Rechargeable are better for the environment.
You always make such nice, pleasant videos….thank you ! 👍👍
The leatherman, the work tunes Bluetooth with AM/FM, and a full brim hat are the three items that I use all the time, and I think all people that do real work for a living should have.

Do you have an instrumentation department that checks the BAS accuracy?
Thanks for the Christmas stocking stuffer video, I sent both of my boys a link to it. I'll let you know in January how we did. Thanks again Kevin.
Thumbs up for pulleys for the kids. My Dad gave me some pulleys as a child and I had hours of fun with them. See also: Meccano kits (if it's still made)
Multitools are such a great gift
Speaking of hard hat, there needs to be an Essential Craftsman sticker
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
I'm a big fan of Buy Nothing Day!

You once recommended a mini brute trash can for the shop. I love that little trash can, so handy!!
I think the word you were looking for to describe what Christmas has become is 'crass'.
Nothing like sticking that sausage and knowing it up to temp
Man I loved this video! Thanks
I buy vintage DeeCee western shirts on EBay. Love ‘em!
Scott, you are "SIMPLY THE BEST" !!!!!!!
Bah! Now you've got me loving Christmas again. Great video
That is funny wow, I have a heavy flannel green and black “field and stream” shirt jacket that is slowly distressing, im always reaching for it sping and fall, and cant find another! Never thought to look vintage thank you ! I have hope 😂

Your videos are always great ...and the way you are made....wish I knew you
I use the temp thermometer all the time to check temp for drywall finishing and concrete.
Thanks for your suggestions on Christmas gifts.
Christmas Eve shopping for my wife..... me exactly !!
Yes to the bomber hat! I made sure to make sure mine was real rabbit fur. It won't freeze like the fake stuff.
I use the thermometer for the bathtub water temp lol
Sounds like advent is no longer 25 days but year round!
I love this guy
Thanks for the ideas.
Thank you. This was a great video
You opened the drawers for visual interest for the podcast. Video cast... Whatever we call it.
A greay episode, as always.
Luv you man Hod bless
God sorry
I like the 3M Bluetooth earmuffs!
Thank you.
great ideas thanks
Amen
I wear a raccoon hat occasionally at work just as a goof. Thanks for the Battery Daddy recommendation-immediately ordered one. Merry Christmas EC!
