  • So I’ve finally found an effective solution to stop this stroke reducing spacer from coming loose and rattling around. A bit of superglue and bobs your uncle!

    Hey mate Whats the small bump compliance like after installing the reducer on top of the Gnar Dog?

    • @mtbtelly5522

      27.5 Dirt Surfer still awesome, as long as you keep the rebound active. I’ve now got 2 spacers on top of the gnardog(max), feels more spritely, I’ll see how it goes after a few rides

    I too have a 2018 Remedy 8, love all the work you're putting in on the shock setup. I now think a super deluxe is in my bikes future.
    Could you possibly do a review on the Michelin wild enduro front and rear set compared to your current maxxis setup? I think that would be a bit of fun.

    Thanks for all the great videos. I have a 2020 Trek Slash 8 and have ridden it maybe 4 times on very mellow flow trails (no drops or jumps) and starting to notice a knock. Did this fix last? Any concerns with voiding the warranty by diy'ing it?

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anthony Weatherby the superglue fix definitely helps. You could send it back under warranty but they’re still using the same size o’ring so it’ll continue to rattle. The best fix is to get a fox o’ring put there instead as its slightly tighter fitting and does a much better job of holding it in place

      @@mtbtelly5522 thanks man. Bizarre how simple it would be for sram to fix this and yet they continue to ignore the issue. That being said, it lead me to discovering your channel and loving it. Not all bad!

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anthony Weatherby yeah it seems crazy. In 2018 i sent xhocks back to sram 7 times with the identical issue. Requested tighter fitting o’ring and every time they came back standard. I sent it up to Cyclinic Suspension service and they put the fox ring on, it was way stronger

  • @RyanFrampton

    I have a yt Capra, same shock, I get a rattle that appears to come from the rear with any hit, except climbing. If I turn off the rebound and the shock has sunk into its travel the noise disappears.
    Does this sound similar to your issue?

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ryan Frampton whats the stroke length on that shock? Yeah it sounds like the same thing. It shouldn’t do any harm but it is annoying

    • @RyanFrampton
      @RyanFrampton 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mtbtelly5522 it's 160mm travel. I did your trick and the spacer is nice and secure, but the sound continued. My search for this illusive noise goes on...

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ryan Frampton ah it might be cable rattle in the frame, or seat post rattle/play. Or could be shock internals

    • @RyanFrampton
      @RyanFrampton 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mtbtelly5522 I've tried everything, cable noise dampening, ruled out crank, BB, wheel, dropper, chain, cassette and mech. Get a kind of chatter when over rough terrain on the decent, only stops if I turn rebound off fully and shock is sitting well into travel. Can't replicate noise unless I'm sitting on bike.
      Driving me mad! Rear suspension is silent without shock and there is no play.

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ryan Frampton yeah its likely the spacer or the metal shim in there then. Only way to fix it is to get your service centre to use a fox o’ring to hold the spacer up instead of the standard rockshox one. Which is too loose fitting for the job is has to do

  • @Resantinos
    @Resantinos 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi MTB Telly, I;m having this shock now and to my surprise the original o'ring isn't holding the spacer at all, It just goes up and down freely. I have a Slash 8 2020 and going with the Super Deluxe upgrade. My question is, can I remove this thing completely? The shock seems to be the right size for the frame (230x57,5) so why do you have it there? I'm thinking of getting rid of this part and just installing a few grar volume reducers.

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The spacer keeps the shocks travel at 57.5mm. If you take it out the shock stroke will be 65mm, which gives the bike another 15+mm of travel potentially causing the frame to foul out on full compression damaging or destroying it.

    • @Resantinos
      @Resantinos 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mtbtelly5522 Interesting, thank you. I wonder how much we could safely increase the bike travel by installing a thinner spacer.

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Resantinos I’d leave it at the designed amount. More travel means your feet get closer to the ground on compressions increasing the chance clipping pedals into the ground or rocks and going over the bars

      I just fitted a Super Deluxe 230x60 and fits perfectly. Get about 6mm more travel (not really noticable). Have had the same issue with the Trek Deluxe shock, my o ring actually snapped. Super Deluxe is much more composed in the rough stuff.
