People who seek help for social anxiety end up being mislead by CBT that social anxiety is being irrational.
It is important that criticism that triggers us is not always mild or well meaning. I believe that people who never examined RSD or social anxiety will be easily triggered by kind criticism and won't be able to discern constructive criticism from abuse.
This distinction is important first step. It takes time to make evaluation who is the critic and what is being said.
If I make submarine for billionaires to watch Titanic, and I am sensitive to criticism from safety managers that it will implode if I do not invest money in making submarine better - then this criticism is constructive and it helps me avoid landing in jail for being mass murderer. Complying to their criticism make me better person - since I avoid making serious mistakes which may harm other people as well if I do not change my ways.
    HOWEVER
if someone is criticizing what I wear, what I eat, AD Hominem arguments - then this is abuse. Complying to their criticism will make me pushover.
Big difference in what is criticism and who is the critic.
Unfortunately CBT does not makes this difference. Nor Self help books industry based on CBT.
When we realize the difference in criticism and people who are critical
we can then come to the core of RSD: being abused and traumatized since childhood - via ACE and ACoA.
Once we learn about Complex trauma - then we realize that RSD stems from our own suppressed anger.
We push our own core emotion of anger - which we were told and conditioned in ACE/ACoA to believe that anger means rage and fury and aggression - so we naturally suppress it.
CBT does not explain this - and we are trapped into self blame and self corrections, self pruning such as ABC method which leads to people pleasing and more of rejection sensitivity - since we are literally removing our skin and hence making ourselves more sensitive to any contact with anyone - good or bad critic - because we do not have skin nor clothes.
Skin and clothes, protection - shield - only comes from our own anger -
at the core - anger is neutral emotion and once we feel it - our brain will have correct information and data how to handle difficult and unknown situations. Without anger - other emotions will step in and try to do the job for the anger such as people pleasing and self blaming ourselves. (IFS Model)
