  • A video showing what traps I use (they don't kill the moths) and the catch in the morning.

Marvellous, it's like waking up on Christmas morning as a kid with all that lot!

I'm just getting into moths, although I have been interested since 2009 when I found a Poplar hawk moth, I have yet to see an Elephant hawk moth and that is one I really want to see, I must get lucky one day. You have a massive variety of moths there, I went out with my friend last night and we set up his heath trap for a few hours, got 17 species, all but the Ribband wave were new ones for me!

There are moth traps in in Malaysia, which is a bedsheet with light. Some bigger species such as atlas and saturniid moths are attracted. Also bettles and cicadas are atrracted.

It's funny how moth trapping seems to be much more popular in the UK than in the US even though we have many larger and more colorful species. Them again, most of ours don't have such awesome names XD.

Salmon, you have one idea how many people collect moths in The USA. Many more than England. Go to Southern Arizona during the monsoon season and you will see dozens of lights shining in the night.

Excellent! Do you prefer the Robinson Light Trap over the Actinic Trap? Are you using the 125 watt MV lamp?
