The Sega Saturn was a missed experience for many of us growing up in the 90s. Today its one of the most coveted consoles amongst retro gaming enthusiasts. Today we are going to talk about WHY you need to have a Sega Saturn and Why.

All this Sega and Saturn love recently, I can't get enough of it!!
They're trying to drum up interest to ride the retro game price bubble.
I got one as my first console as a kid, lot of nostalgia for it. The one I currently have is a model 2 I bought at a used game store, works great. My set up for gaming is PS5, Switch, and the old Saturn for retro gaming
I knew one kid in my neighborhood with a Saturn. Virtua Cop, Virtua Fighter, Knights into Dreams, there were solid games.
I had a friend who had one. He eventually sold it to me years later after it was a dead console but it was still kinda cool owning one back in the day.
I'm a new sega saturn owner - and so far, I'm loving it. I've only had it for almost 1 year now. Have no regrets investing in one.
Astal is a work of art! One of my cherished games for Saturn. My favorite is Dragonforce which deserves a lot more love today
After 12 years of retro gaming I realised that only my Nintendo consoles carried on after the 16bit era.
Never owned a saturn at the time (Had mega cd and 32x - which I have no interest in now) but decided this was the year, most of the Sega arcade games on the system, ( which I was most interested in) were actually cheap, with some costing under £10 and most others not much more!!
Loving my leap into the next gen with sega!!
My first console was a NES And then i switched to sega...after that My nintendo consoles were always kind of secondary systems to play mario games. Thanks for watching
@@theretrobro The Sega Master system and Megadrive were mine as they were the most popular in the UK - got a snes when they came out also but kinda stuck with Nintendo after that.
I really love the Sega systems though and glad I've finally decided to get a saturn after all these years of ignoring it!

Pink Skelleton Gaming refurbished my Saturn and put the chip in to play backups. My collection is a mix of (affordable) real games and backed up (expensive AF) games, so I've been able to experience so many awesome games. I just loved Magic Knight Rayearth, Super Tempo and Lunacy. No way could I afford to buy original copies, but I have really enjoyed the experience.
I purchased my US Sega Saturn on launch day, and within the first year I mailed it in to NCSX to get a mod chip installed. Although it allowed the playing of pirated copies, my interest was the ability to play any commercial game developed for the platform, whether it was the excellent Xmen VS Street Fighter from Japan, Shenmue II from Europe, or Panzer Dragoon Saga from the US. This was much earlier than the 2012 date mentioned in the video.

I had one back in the day with the ram cart just to play X-men vs. Street Fighter! Arcade perfect, baby!

I do think a "Saturn mini" retro console is inevitable: the distinctive controllers have already been remolded and reissued, _and that really is a significant part of the labor required._ The only question is: to what extent will Sega do it themselves, or to what extent will some other company step in and get it done first (something equivalent to the Retron Sq). Capcom seems to be willing to "play ball" with Sega in these retro reissue projects, and that would make a huge difference.
I agree. The majority of the games could be first party stuff and it would still be great.
Fun fact: Tomb Raider was released on the Saturn first.
There are basically two possible strategies: (1) A Sega _Titan_ retro project comparable to the Astro City Mini, or (2) a Sega Saturn retro project, comparable to the Genesis Mini. Both would be expensive. So far, the third strategy of just releasing a Saturn collection for the Nintendo Switch _has not been tempting_ -perhaps because it would turn out to be _even more expensive._

I always wondered why Sega of America didn't just bring over the 2D Japanese games it had and excelled at and carve out a niche market.
I always wondered the same thing as well. I have to beleive it would have sold better even at the higher price tag over the ps1
@@theretrobro My guess would be they didn't wanna seem behind the times but the premiere 3D games weren't on the Saturn outside of some standouts. They should have focused on what the system excelled at: 2D gaming.
It cannot be overstated how 2d graphics were looked down on by most publications and gamers as last gen especially in the west, as much as we love them now the truth is many would have been slow sellers and the few great 2d games that did make it over (astal, galactic attack, etc.) did alright but not barn burners like the 3d hits such as vf2, Sega rally, even the disappointing daytona was more popular than those 2d works of art. Only in the last couple decades has the appreciation of the 2d games surpassed the 3d games

The console itself isn't expensive. I did mention in the video there is a way around the expensive side of it using psuedo saturn kai on your saturn
I got it don’t need it anymore the console was great at it’s time it was better then the PS1 but now that we got the Xbox series X PS5 we don’t need a Sega Saturn but we do need a Sega console that’s powerful that Nintendo can’t release get rid of Nintendo let Nintendo make the games instead let Sega make the consoles instead but we don’t need old consoles

Mine has an original ode phoebe the other 1tb terraonion solution. EVERYTHING works on the phoebe just a pain in the ass to setup. As usual stock rgb though a retrotink5x or framemeister is amazing. The jap library is so much better. The west only got about 128 games or so. Afterburner was a near perfect port. Until the dreamcast... completely different animal.
