Well, depends, if we account the original design of the nuclear airborne aircraft carrier, he would have an absurd amount of armor to keep the reactor safe, even in the case of a collision, something like the Nuclear Waste containers, that are tested by just throwing a whole damn train against them, and they survive with no problems.
Of course, the impact energy of a falling aircraft, and a freight train hitting something is very different, but it could (in theory) be done.

I’d say this is a redesigned F101 Voodoo, extremely similar fuselage, tail and wing design.

This world is slowly becoming like Project Wingman with all the airship shenanigans and I’m loving it.
The sky carrier is more of an ace combat thing.
While airships are involved in Project Wingman, they're far more common and are around the size of bombers and commercial planes. Except with railguns and PDCs. In fact, even their designs are quite feasible.
When you think about, the people of Project Wingman would probably consider something like a B-52, B-1, B-2, B-21, or WW2 heavy bombers as airships.
@@mill2712 The airships in Project wingman are far more massive than even the ones in Ace Combat, the Class-205 has a wingspan of about 500 meters.
If you fly near them in the game, you can see just how absolutely MASSIVE they are. In fact, the Class 205 and Littoria need to land in water, since there aren’t many runways large enough for them.

While I do admit while they're quite large, they don't seem THAT big. Nowhere near the size ace combat's airship bosses.
In fact, if I were to bring a semi accurate comparison in size, this visualization would be reasonable.

Edit: while I do understand the battleship class 205s are supposed to be 588 meters in wingspan according to wiki, I'm not sure the game does it justice scale wise.
For reference the alicorn is 495 meters long. 93 meters shorter than a 205 battleship.
please keep this series up in this format if possible. I am constantly on the lookout for when you drop a new one
Psh, to protect against misiles, just make it stealth. That way it will only have the radar cross-section of a moderately sized yacht…
Though remember, this takes place with technology similar to the 60s and 70s. Stealth might be in research phase at best if not it's in the area of theoretical possibility.

@@tomstratman9977 I mean that could work, but I wasn't just thinking "BBBBBBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRR" I was also thinking in terms of the sheer payload the A-10 can carry along with the main cannon on it.

@@tver well, technically the A-10 still has more ordinance than the IA 58 Pucara. The IA 58 only has 3 hard points which can hold either bombs or rocket pods which the A-10 has 11 which has more options for ordinance

I love seeing some of the improvements in effiency and priority while building the aircraft. The gear hatches. The engine exhaust shape on the fuselage. Etc. There's so many things you can see in this video that you can clearly compare as you yourself growing with the software.

I’ve always found it interesting that an aircraft engineered to perform a certain task can end up so closely resembling other aircraft designed to fulfill similar roles. Modern stealth aircraft are perfect examples of this
Dude I LOVE these videos! Seeing these uploads always makes my day, there's just something satisfying about watching you build while explaining your process, and then testing your builds as well. I'm definitely looking forward to getting my hands on Flyout myself, but until then, your videos give me my weekly Flyout kick :D
Also, here's an idea: I'd love to see you try and build an American version of the Sukhoi Su-27/Su-30, i.e. a 4th-gen supermaneuverable multirole fighter/interceptor capable of post-stall maneuvers, but built in the general style of American 4th gen fighters like the the F-15. I think that'd be really cool to see!

I love this cross between a Voodoo and a Phantom.
I could see aerial torpedos being a thing in this as well, either big and fast with solid rocket motors but short ranged, or long ranged and slower with a more conventional engine but able to push the sky carrier out of standoff range if it didn't evade.

I love how it looks like a starfighter (my beloved) also the mission brief for your design really fits well with my idea for a "modernised"/ redesigned modern-day version of the starfighter. Essentially just a missile carrier designed to get high fast and fire off a long range cruise missile type weapon and then run like Hell. I would loce to see where this goes and i am definitely joining the server to see this project through!

Great design. Idk how practical it would be but if I were designing a fighter in this universe to take out a plane the size of a small village I think I would actually just make it a bomber. If you fly at a higher altitude head on with the carrier it probably wouldn't be maneuverable enough to dodge a well placed bomb, even unguided maybe. Either way I think it would be an incredible visual of the parasite fighters trying to take down a fleet of bombers dropping enormous flak bombs on the carrier
They should put a function to spawn one of your planes on autopilot to shoot down
It would be awesome to see a cinematic of this thing and some escort aircraft taking on the sky carrier, and its parasite fighters. Amazing video, by the way!

Sky carrier pilots were taught by Trigger (Ace Combat 7). They maneuver to take missiles in non-critical areas.

The little missile installations on the wingtips remind me of the F-8 Crusader sidewinder mountings which also had this weird assymetric 'Y' shaped pylons on either side of the cockpit

A suggestion for a prop punk video series is to look up EnterElysium's "world war k" series. They did a longer form with a combo of story, building, testing, and plot mission all in ksp (with mods).

Hey Messier, I would like to see you try and build the fastest aircraft you possibly can that can take off on its own, using every possible method available in flyout. Maybe you could do a competition with other creators in Flyout and promote their channels that way.

yes, but the issue is that it's VERY heavy, which you usually want to avoid in aerospace engineering.

On the most recent PatchBits video I suggested he build a Modern (5th Gen) Stealth Fighter, a 'Legally Distinct Raptor', I also Issue this 'Challenge' to you, as I think it would be interesting to see a Novice (Patch) and an Expert (Yourself) attempt the same build.
If you do decide to take up this task, I implore you to bring on-board any other content creators with access to 'Flyout' as it would be interesting for the community to see both various skill levels and design approaches to the same problem.

I just fallen in love with the concept of a capital aircraft. And I would love to see you further develop the concept.
Maybe can be justified with a change of mentality in the develop of air doctrine. with the extreme success of the 'ship' aircraft carriers the developing of new aircraft and their doctrine where given to the admiralty, (if you only have a hammer, everything looks like a nail) so they make those gigantic carriers. with their success and capacity to withstand multiple hits of missiles and common rounds they double down in the creation of air behemoths to make the war in the air like in the sea, but now in 3d.
That also will have repercussions in the civil industry, so things like your aircraft cruiser are things of common sense in that world. Maybe there are better alternatives, but the weight of the fascinated public, military and the billions of dollars put in the beasts of the skies is bigger.

The Mix between the f104 and f4 is really nice it would be cool if I would exist in real life
I had thought a USA aircraft carrier fleets are fleet not just aircraft carriers, so I was suggesting to build other support aircraft fleets, such as anti missile destroyer aircraft that Carry's like 1 to 2 thousand short range missiles, 100 to 200 mid range missiles and 10 to Long range missiles, both of offensive and defensive, as well sport based missiles think of drones how they used many roles. A supplier aircraft that can transfer weapons and parts as well as fuel to aircraft while flying though this aircraft is only used when the fleet is active, if they are in peace time or something similar state of situation status will land the fleet instead. Stealth bombers like b-2 will take the place of submarines and so on . If there's a ship with a role for normal navel carrier fleet you try to make plane versions of it some of them being similar in size to flying carriers but still Smaller.

I dont know if you've already done this before but I recommend building a fairly early gen stealth bomber or a fast bomber that can get into a country deliver a nuclear (or something similar) payload and get out fairly quickly.
I think that would be pretty cool.

An in Universe explanation for that weird wingtip missile situation would be for quick rearmament via a special loading device so that 2 missiles could be fit very rapidly at once as interceptors need to be quick ig?
I like the look of this design but the only problem I have with it is the T-tail design because at a certain aoa the wings will create turbulent flow that will reduce the effectiveness of the tail control surface. This could lead to a reduction in turn time, decreased stability and possibly even departure of flight. The F-104 had this same flaw which was why it was so deadly to take off and land and was unofficially named the widow maker. Other than that, nice vid man.

The sky carriers going to need "screening ships" sky equivelant of destroyers or light cruisers. Perhaps something with a lot of long range AA missiles and ciws

You know, the combination of F-4 Phantom and T-Tail reminds me a lot of the F-101 Voodoo, which is also a great aircraft.
And now the only way to continue this arms race is to develop smaller airships, like corvettes or cruisers designed to escort the sky carrier and provide additional point defense and anti-air options.
For a shorter term suggestion: How about a Prop-punk VTOL fighter akin to the Harrier? Could be a bit like the V-22 Osprey with rotating wingtip engines, or just tilting the entire wing, akin to the LTV XC-142.
Are aerodynamic phenomena like boundary layer drag or wingtip vortices modeled in the game? I see you included diverterless intakes but not sure if it’s just for looks
