I was thinking about when a murder of crows adopt Homer and he says "go forth and do my bidding." And they return with like a Play Dude, beer, and the TV remote
I appreciate you covering interesting indie offerings now and then. Especially since you know going in that these vids don't generally get as many views. It's a real service to other fans, who might never know great comics like Astro City and Tom Strong exist.
The Turtle dude with the mace and shield is so fucking cool. This is right up my alley. Read the first 4 issues today. First comics I’ve purchased in probably a couple of years.
@@aersiul In the Charlton Heston film, sure, but in Exodus they're constantly referred to as "the children of Israel". "Israelites" literally means "children of Israel", i.e. descendants of Jacob (who changed his name to Israel).
Love that you are covering the Ghost Machine books. I was really looking forward to Rook: Exodus and have not been disappointed so far. Jason Fabok's art is sooo good. Not surprising for a fellow Good Canadian Kid who was mentored by the great David Finch. Also, dug the Iain M. Banks reference. The Culture series is top shelf sci-fi!!!
Thank you Sasha, you are so good at this thing we LOVE; Mad Props Woman!!!! Now I have a reason to visit my local comics shop,....perhaps. PEACE dear Sister, and God bless your steps.
If you like post-apoclypse stuff and are a bit of a gamer you should check out Laika: Aged Through Blood. It came out towards the end of last year and it's REALLY good
If you're going to spin-off and do stuff non-DC/Marvel, I'd love to see G Willow Wilson's The Hunger and the Dusk get some love. It was a favorite new series from last year and I think I have yet to convince anybody else to give it a shot.
I love The Hunger and The Dusk! It was so funny when I saw it being advertised as "The Hot Orc Book" which like, it totally is that. But there's enough beyond that to be really interesting
Sasha, could you do a video on the most powerful and neglected characters in DC like Firestorm, Captain Atom and Captain Comet and why aren´t they use either in solo series, team books and/or the very least in major events.
I like seeing some buzz about this one. First issue didn’t do it for me. But the second issue had more to like. I liked the Danika character. She is like the optimist foil to Rook’s cynicism. You’re right about the cool factor.
Thank you for this. I was on the fence about this and didn't have any info beyond flipping through the book. I'll definitely give this a look. As for animals, I'd go with a wolf also.
They should do a crossover when they are ready to concentrate on other characters more between Rook and Calico.... Everything has been about money and Rook has had enough of it, but he gets a message that there is so much more to being a warden. that it goes back so much farther than what they were told.... He finds out about the deities that protected animals (calico universe) and learns this was what wardens were long in the past. They didn't work for companies but for religious deities....
I'm on the Rook: Exodus train like the flame-throwing guitarist strapped to the truck in Mad Max Fury Road. Love Rook: Exodus. And I'm a sucker for those helmet variants. I think this series will definitely get into the neural link between warden and animal as they seem to be setting the stage for that. The preview pages for issue 3 have some foreshadowing with that line "You need a better relationship with your animals." Plus that scarecrow cover they teased for issue 5 makes me wonder what happens if the helmet stops working...do the animals turn on their wardens if they don't have a healthy relationship? I chuckled when you said "If you don't like the art, then this book isn't for you..." If someone doesn't like Fabok's art, then maybe comics are not for them 😄. The art is ridiculiously good. Can't wait for issue 3.
I've like post-apocalyptic stories like Horizon Zero Dawn, Stellar Blade, Mad Max, Nikke etc. Plus this by Johns and Fabok. Darkseid War by them was the best JL story in the last 15 years still
I picked up issue #1 and Im really digging it so far. Seems pretty original and I love the art. The characters remind me of somthing from Destiny or Halo which is cool ( I think a videogame based off of this might work). Great discussion vid! 🥸👍
The animal helmets look like the ones used by the Evil Empire of Granbretan, of Moorcock's "Hawkmoon" books. Iconic bad guys. Also, "evil Corporations" is an evergreen topic. Sadly.
Oooooo Geiger peaked my interest in Ghost Machine but Rook sounds way more my speed! Love Mad Max vibes! Definitely excited to check it out to once my library's hoopla app gets reset for June!
Yes the price is excellent for this book, high quality art work and story, awesome covers and so far no bad language, you can buy the story for your younger children who especially like animals anyway. This could go a long way. Finished reading issue #3 it is well done and starting to develop the story. Rook is a for me for now.
Loving the Ghost Machine output so far. Wondering if you have checked out Tom King's Animal Pound yet, best thing I've read in quite a while. Maybe an upcoming episode???
Best comics overview/review channel on TH-cam! But we want more Lois! What’s going on with Superman’s Girlfriend anyway? More Lois and Jimmy updates! Lois!
The whole Ghost Machine thing kinda reminds me of the CrossGen experiment in the early 2000s. Getting a bunch of industry veterans together and launching a new multiverse. It probably would have been more successful if it were published & distributed by an already established company like Image. As it was, there were some very cool series and a lot of good ideas, but it ultimately fizzled. I think Marvel owns the rights now, and hasn't really done much with them.
I get vibes of Pandora from the Borderlands game series- which is not a bad thing, quite the opposite in fact. It has promise- just have to see how it develops over time.
I wasn't going to jump onboard another series but I picked up the giant issue and followed with number 1 (and 2). For me, it is good clean post-apoc world build. Is the corporation evil? Or will they simply have forgotten? Which would be worse? And next... Heroic Signature and Heroic Comics take on Conan! (Or again, if I missed it.)
Rook looks like an evil Star Lord to me. Is it just me? And you asked, "is he Max Payne?" Now if I ever pick this up, I'm reading Rook's lines in James McCaffrey's voice! RIP
Completely off-topic but I would love to know if you had ever heard of a comic called Crimson I remember reading it back in like 2003 2005 and it was all about a guy who got turned into a vampire against his will, and then spiraled off into some truly crazy shit. You might like it and if you have, I would love to see your opinions on it
I found the dialog to be fairly cheesy but the world is extremely interesting. At some moments it feels like a big, dumb 90s comic and I love big, dumb 90s comics so that's a plus in my book!
I think the rocket building is necessary to bring home the point that this is elevated realism, or just poorly understood reasoning, and a tale of fiction like Barsoom series or Interstellar. If it wasn't for that idealistic The Astronaut Farmer kind of tone, I already would cringe my way out of reading any of this. And I would already rather read Blame! manga or Gunnm, or maybe Steven Grant's 'The Rook'.
What animal would you control if you could?
Any kind of bear. They’re pretty common everywhere and a group can pretty reliably take out small militias.
None
Chihuahuas. Having my own demonic gremlin army sounds cool...
Tigers!
Well, squirrels defeated Thanos under the command of Squirrel Girl... so...
Fun Fact:Rook Exodus issue 1 had at least 40 plus pages and only cost $3.99.

I’ll still give you a like lol
I learned today that a rook is a bird!

Just read #1, i think the reason why he marks those rooms with X is because he already looted them and it's to keep track which ones he hasn't yet.
Search teams mark structure like that to indicate it has been cleared after a disaster, sometimes with body counts
Yeah, it's a good visual. There's lots of nice imagery in this, I'm just curious how much depth some of it will have.

Sasha, could you do a video on the most powerful and neglected characters in DC like Firestorm, Captain Atom and Captain Comet and why aren´t they use either in solo series, team books and/or the very least in major events.
They’re using Captain Atom in an upcoming Black Label series….as a homicidal villain lol. DC really hates the character.
Just got issues 1 and 2. Let's go!
Yes! I was waiting for this review🔥! I hope this makes it to 100 issues (or more).
You have my CURIOSITY and now you have my ATTENTION! - Leonardo DiCaprio

The Punisher has used the alias of Frank Rook.
I just finished reading Rook Exodus and Rat City. I can't wait for issue 3 of both. It would be neat if you did a quck video on Rat City.

It is interesting that Exodus is post-apocalyptic yet the rest of the system seems to be ok. Except for Earth.
Yeah, I'm here for these! Rook Exodus isn't my cup of tea by synopsis but the execution is really working for me.
Keep Up The Outstanding Work Sasha 🖖🏾

Yeah okay, this could be interesting
Is it just me or Rook looks just like Red Hood and Dire Wolf looks just like Batgirl from Three Jokers?
It's not just you, Fabok, like a lot of artists, has a few default faces and then builds out from there.
