    I'm surprised you didn't mention his loan spell at Bolton from Chelsea. I think that helped raise his profile as someone who wasn't that wanted by Chelsea but was good enough to play for other top clubs.

  • @footballchannel8430
    @footballchannel8430 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    i have special memories about sturridge. I'm not a liverpool or Premier League fan, but he was one of the reasons I followed the league, especially during his first 18 months in Liverpool. Between January 2013 and summer 2014 he was just amazing, world class. It's a shame that injuries prevented him, I honestly think he could have been one of the best strikers of his generation . Nowadays everyone just remembers Suarez for his 2013/14 season, but that wasn't a one man team like so many suggest. The different directions of their careers after the 2013/14 season have blinded people, that he was almost as good as Suarez during that season, and even better during some stints.

    To me the issue with Sturridge's injuries started with the 2014-15 season wherein he was rushed back way too quickly at the first time of him being fit. That messed him up. While it didn't help that Liverpool had Borini, Balotelli and Lambert go 1000 minutes without scoring, Rodgers put too much burden on Sturridge to get back to his fitness.

    • @KJSJ7
      @KJSJ7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Facts, it was when Rodgers rushed him back hoping Studge was going save his job at the time. All he did was create that reoccurring hip injury that started the plague of injuries he had during his time with Klopp

    I'll never forget, Euro 2016 England had an absolutely stacked forward line.
    Harry Kane, fresh off his 1st golden boot.
    Jamie Vardy, fresh off THAT season where Leicester won the Prem and he scored in 11 straight games.
    A fit Sturridge.
    18 y/o Marcus Rashford, right after making his breakthrough at United.
    Somehow Roy Hodgson managed to mess it up and make England play the most boring football possible. Oh and put Kane on corners. Not to mention he was the reason Sturridge got hurt back in 2014, rushed him back from injuries too soon

The fact his a Brum lad just like myself had me jumping for joy when he signed & that SAS partnership was goated imo. The complete striker on his day. Was sad to see him ravaged by injuries & I was gutted to see him miss out on the prem by a point knowing he was leaving but at least he won the CL as a consolation with us 💯🏆

    Could you do a football explainer/video essay on Monarcas Morelia/Atletico Morelia of Liga MX/Mexico?
    in 2020, they were sold from Morelia to Mazatlan by their owners. In their earlier years, the team was known as Oro Morelia, then went thru a rebrand and went by Atletico Morelia and in 99/00, they went thru another rebrand and started going by Monarcas Morelia. Whenever they got sold to Mazatlan and the city of Morelia were without a team, they bought the team from Zacatepec, because the team was going thru financial problems, which was different from the prev owners selling because they basically felt like it.
    i think it would be an interesting story to tell!

    Sturridge man, genuinely a world class player on his day and great charisma off the field.. one of the great “what ifs” of the modern era.
    I’m from Perth, Australia and keep a very close eye on our local club Perth Glory, as for Sturridges’ time here i have to feel for the guy. The A-League at the time was in total disarray due to covid and the country isolations laws ESPECIALLY Perth, when Sturridge arrived he had to stay in a hotel room (without being allowed out)for 2 whole weeks because of the covid isolation rules and as the season went on there would be 3-4 occasions where the team would get stuck in a different state and be forced to isolate in hotel rooms for 2 weeks at a time… hardly ideal for a player coming back from a 2 year lay off.
    Put this on top of the teams extremely poor form (i think they might’ve won 3 games all season) and his injury record, i think it would be fair to say it was probably the WORST club in the world for Sturridge at the point in time.

    Honestly Roy Hodgson takes the blame for me. He was just returning from injury and he got called up for England, overplayed him, and soon after he got injured again. That 14/15 period where he was in and out with injury, imo, you have to pin on that specific injury at the start of the season

    Sturridge was a really good player. If only he had managed to stay fit. Unfortunately it's something you can't control.

    I remember a pre season game against Bayern in 2017 I think, where Sturridge ran from his own half on the break to chip Manuel Neuer and immediately started clutching his thigh with injury. If that doesn’t sum up his career, I don’t know what will. Phenomenal player who got extremely unlucky.
