I saw them and was a sweaty mess when I left! Layne voice was beautiful and with Jerry's guitar and harmony in many songs, they blended so well. I was standing outside The Moore Theatre this night but I couldn't get in! Packed house!
Thank you! Layne deserved this reaction. What a joy to see you impressed and enjoying his vocals. Layne was the best. I subscribed, but you deserve so many more!
Layne Staley had great vocal control. Sadly he had zero control over his addiction which led to his early departure from this life. His death was a huge loss to the metal community.
@@notcommunistcrapshoot3098, that isn't selfish. It is just a fact that Layne Staley slowly injected his own death despite everyone trying to help him. He got kicked out of the band in order to try to get him sober but it didn't work.
Thanks for doing this! Alice in their prime! This footage never ceases to impress me. I could listen to it a million times over and never tire of it. There will NEVER be another Layne Staley.
The chords and chord progressions, and the vocal harmonies, are what make AiC a top 5 band for me. These weren't just guys out on stage beating up their instruments, they are/were honest to God musicians.
Really enjoyed the explanation about the distortion he does. Seems it does make a lot of vocal coaches cringe a bit. HAH but it truly is beautiful. His mom described his voice as razor blades wrapped in marshmallows. :)
You are the man for doing this!! BEST VOCAL COACH CHANNEL ON TH-cam! You react to real music by real singers and real musicians!!! Keep up the AIC brotha!!! Btw TY for the shout out! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I’ve seen a lot of these reactions from coaches on this song. This is the best one, you really did a good job breaking this down and explaining what Layne was doing
You comment on the chord being weird in a good way...I think almost all AIC songs are all tuned down a half a step or and often in a dropped d tuning like most grunge bands of the time but it definitely matches layne’s purposeful almost flat holding of a note and hitting it near the end to portray the emotion he was wanting to share with his audience. AIC = 90’s gods of dark emotion...
Lived in Seattle and best time in my life. Club after club, then venues. More talent in one city where you got to see the band's on the streets was unreal for fans, their music was so powerful and full of emotion! 💞✌
THANK YOU, THANK YOU for doing this song. I like how you react to the vocals and the music along with being very specific with the cords/vibrato, etc.....nice.
you should check out Devin Townsend - Deadhead (Live at Royal Albert Hall). Super unique voice. Goes between clean and intense distortion. Interested on your take. When he first went to a vocal coach they said he would lose his voice. He said f that. He has been recording and touring non stop for 25 years since.
I believe Layne sang in his church choir..dont quote me but I am sure I have heard this. I take what I hear with grain of salt when it comes to Layne cuz there are so many half truths and lies out there. Love aic but really love Laynes voice!
Please check out frogs unplugged live. You can really feel the pain he was enduring. If you don't get that you don't really get Layne Staley... Thank you for your post.
I think this was way better than the sound of silence by disturbed, the singer of disturbed had autotune when they performed the Conan show. Every artist Has to use autotune when playing popular late night shows like Conan, kimmel ect. The artist don’t have a choice
William Tachyon with big network TV shows, no, The artist Hass to use autotune while performing, Because the networks want perfection. I used to be under the management of disturbed so that’s how I know these things
Dominic Cerna LoL bands will totally fuck their act up if that was the case, no way in hell Kurt cobain, mike Patton or any other bad ass singers would be ok with auto tune in any performance, also your full of shit, go watch the tragically hip-grace too on Snl, 0 auto tune whatsoever.
HI MAN!!! PLEASE REACT TO GRIM REAPER - SEE YOU IN HELL LIVE 1987 MTV THIS LEGENDARY AND AMAZING PRESENTATION !! MORE ALICE IN CHAINS REACTS PLEASE... ALICE IN CHAINS - BLEED THE FREAK ALICE IN CHAINS - QUEEN OF THE RODEO EXCELENT MASTERPIECE !! OVERKILL - COMA REACT PLEASE !!!
Why in Baphy hell would you pause right when the really big, dramatic vocals are starting? and you really should not try to mimic his voice, I know you think you're sounding like him, but trust me, you're not. No one can.
Great reaction man, this live performance is in the history books for me. Could you react to Junkhead live 1992? Thanks
Thanks man and yes I will! Got a lot request for that one already so I will do that asap🤘😎😎
@IDHmusic yes! Thanks for beating me to the request! @fahimmuchi I can't wait to see this! My absolute favorite live performance!
its actually 91 junkhead live at the singles party
Did he react to Junkhead? I can’t find that video
One of his best performances. He was a natural. Totally live, not like these auto tune fakes these days. And my favorite of all time. My Rock God
think exactly the same, but chris cornell was on the same top level...
"you told me-"
"that was a prechorus so I think he's going to add more volume to it"
"- IIIIIIAAAAAAAM THE ONLY OOOOONE!!"

What a selfish way to look at someone’s life

The music community as a whole...
Why don't you just praise his voice he was a great singer.
Thanks for doing this! Alice in their prime! This footage never ceases to impress me. I could listen to it a million times over and never tire of it. There will NEVER be another Layne Staley.

I still get goose bumps on my arm when listening to this performance.
Really enjoyed the explanation about the distortion he does. Seems it does make a lot of vocal coaches cringe a bit. HAH but it truly is beautiful. His mom described his voice as razor blades wrapped in marshmallows. :)
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! I am so HAPPY!
Aye you're welcome man! Hope you also liked the shoutout🤘🤘
Do one from his other band mad season react to “wake up” by mad season. Same singer and it’s one of the only performances that comes close to this.
Yes, please!!!
Every vocal coach on TH-cam is reacting to this video now. That bring said, it IS a great performance.
"This chord, here, is very strange."
Oh, you've never heard Alice In Chains before?

Please, do Man In a Box from the same gig . Great high notes at the chorus.
God level Layne! So sad that he left us so early.
I'm glad you got to listen to one of the best performances of all time!!
Layne was an amazing talent, who was taken way too soon.
God I love Layne's voice. Its straight from the Universe!
I would love to see your reaction to 'I Stay Away' - brilliant example of Layne's vocal range.
Thank you for your beautiful and insightful analysis of this masterpiece! Subbed. Hope for more ALICE IN CHAINS!
the intervals in that dissonant chord are similar to the 4 note theme Shine On You Crazy Diamond is built around
Love it! Thank you! Awesome analysis!
Thanks for this video! I requested this song only to find you have already done it. Great analysis :)

You should definitely react to Bleed the Freak from this same show. He hits some amazing notes!
you should check out Devin Townsend - Deadhead (Live at Royal Albert Hall). Super unique voice. Goes between clean and intense distortion. Interested on your take. "This song is about evil, but evil in a good way." That's AIC in a nutshell
I think this was way better than the sound of silence by disturbed, the singer of disturbed had autotune when they performed the Conan show. Every artist Has to use autotune when playing popular late night shows like Conan, kimmel ect. The artist don’t have a choice

Do some stone temple pilots.

U pause in the worst spots bro! Lol
Other than that, damn good.
Thats not healthy bro. He did loose his voice because he was keeping up with those high notes for so long.
He lost it to heroin and other "good stuff"
@@jademonolith yeah heroin of course
The heroin and crack wrecked his voice, not his singing. Not that Layne was ever bad - at his most unhealthy he still sounded incredible.
the most...god...damn...annoying...maddening....pause spots
"you told me-"
"that was a prechorus so I think he's going to add more volume to it"
"- IIIIIIAAAAAAAM THE ONLY OOOOONE!!"
