The Hills of Aberfeldy - A Beautiful Hike and Wild Camp

- Setting off from Aberfeldy, Perth & Kinross, I hiked a 14 mile loop out towards Kenmore. Rising high above the villages and out on to open moorland - a truly remote place.
I camped after 8 miles close to a small lochan. With high winds it made for a long night but beautiful non the less. The morning was a lovely return walk in lovely sunshine back to the Birks of Aberfeldy.
The highlight of the trip was visiting The Birks of Aberfeldy for the fist time. A great place - beautiful woodland walks and amazing waterfalls.
The hike took me along part of the Rob Roy Way and visited the place made famous by Scottish poet Robert 'Rabbie' Burns...

My main stomping ground is the Pentland Hills where I walk most days. I also have come to appreciate the Southern Uplands and the Border hills. Dumfries and Galloway is also a delight for walkers. Many a night spent at my secret places in the Pentlands. All the best, Jim.

Hi there. If you know somewhere safe or someone you can go with, have a try. Let someone know where you will be. Stay local then if it a little too much for you, you can always pack up and try again another time. Try be as comfortable as possible.. Avoid woodland... Too many noises... 😳. I hope you feel confident enough to try it... 👏👏👏🤞

One of my childhood haunts as my Auntie and Uncle lived at Grandtully in one of those picturesk cottages halfway up a hill and the wildlife! Breakfasts outside with the birds pinching bacon rind awesome. It’s a great area for cycling and walking (and fishing etc) lovely people and lots of history. You need to get yourself up Schiehallion and Black Woods of Rannoch etc
No camping up Schiehallion.. but I'll have a look at woods... Cheers Ducky ☺️

You could of course do the dreaded thing and camp at a campsite. There’s one at Glendarule and you’ll have the deer as company.
@@SwampyDuckRidesAgain3636 don't do bothies, not ever ruling them out but too risky... People and all that..... Campsites are ok. What's not to like about facilities 😊😊😊

The Birks look gorgeous. I must visit. If you like waterfalls, try Foyers. I’d never heard of the falls there until I chanced on them while hiking the circuit of Loch Ness. They are sensational. Great video. Congratulations on all of the new subscribers. You deserve them for the joy you share when seeing new things.

@@BoredManOutdoors Close There are Victorian paths going down into a big gorge. Maybe as much as a mile to explore but well worth it. The only downside is knowing that you'll have to cross two tributaries feeding the waterfalls on the way to Whitebridge. I waded them both and another I hadn't expected when they were in flood and then realised that there's a way to make life easy by staying on the first bank till the stream narrows to a step over. The last tributary had a bridge but the water was ankle deep getting to and from it. It was all easy enough but my shoes had been dry till this minor epic. So, I hope the big waterfall isn't as spectacular for you as it was for me.

Only knew about Aberfeldy because of the whisky by the same name, but seeing the hills, lakes and waterfalls of the place only makes me wish for the spring to arrive and the snow to finally melt so I can get back out on the hiking trails.

Those waterfalls are great I especially like the long one with many small falls in it. Not sure how far after you left off in the morning that you came across that stream in the little Valley but that looked like a good camping spot haha
That stream was perfect wasn't it.. out of the wind, lovely sound, plenty of water and flat... Absolutely perfect 👌 👍👍
