The problem is that cod comes out every year while everyone's still busy playing the last one, but every release also has to be a live service. Meaning they're balancing 3-4 live services at once which is no bueno.

CoD are still point and click just like waay too many other shooters ,it is a franchise tattered with sh*tty games every now and then, there are the awesomeness of MW reboot and cold war sure but there is also vanguard and gang. Whereas what from software offers u will not find anywhere else, they are the masters of their craft that properly coined and established the soulslike genre
fromsoftware's games may seem similar on the surface , but feel so fking different that the fandom is literally constantly warring and arguing which is the best one while trashing or absolutely hating at least one of them, not even joking more than half of the fanbase have at least that one game that they hate(yes ds1, ds3, sekiro , demons souls, even BB has its haters) and half the fanbase never played ds2 idc and i am not talking about that game anyways.
and they are only similar on the surface level, they are of same genre so all of them have soulslike mechanics which is just one of the great risk reward mechanic in itself. there are also several things the games have going for them, there is at least one aspect that u will absolutely adore and fall in love with the game as a whole for that reason.
good formula is always good , what matters is in care, passion, ambition , intrigue and execution. and making a game that ur team is eager and excited to make. whereas the CoD devs themselves seem to be bored with the franchise

0:30 the problem isn't the formula, the problem is that between each souls game they are 3 new cod games and only 1 out of the 3 is fondly remembered.
I'd even argue that CoD sometimes gets 0 out of 3 games to land properly with their core audience. It's that bad with how they've kept on milking their brand. From Software actually takes years and years before they finally go out and say "Yeah, we're ready to launch our game!"

My brother and I talked about this a lot. A VR game where you need to work with another person to pilot the mech like the movie would be awesome. Having to time your movements at the same time, coordinating your actions, and most of all actually moving would make it really unique.

Imo I’m glad it’s not in the game, it would’ve felt like those sections of CoD and Halo games where you’re using a mounted turret and half the mission is “Hold the fire button”. Plus they would’ve had to make a whole new mechanic, slowing down doom’s gameplay

The reason I respect the FromSoft formula and not the CoD formula is because you can feel the care that goes into every FromSoft game. The detailed worlds, characters, bosses, etc. make me feel like the developers were trying to make something unique and special, not just a product to sell

The new BF2 having its support cut when it was just starting to take off kills my soul to this day. The devs were making Ahsoka, Ventress, and a Mustafar map for a future clone wars update after Scarif. And I’ll bet we would’ve gotten a Mando-themed update to coincide with Season 2 as well.

What I'm getting here is that Zanny really likes the numbers grind in his games. There's nothing wrong with it, but every time I hear someone talk about how much they like Destiny or the the new AC formula over the old, I'm like "ah, I get what you're looking for." I get why it's appealing. I grew up on classic Runescape before live-service was a thing outside of MMOs, but my problem with modern gaming is forcing that grind-based, live-service model on everything you can.

With the singleplayer games that I do like, I can at least get exactly what I put in. Most multiplayer games these days push this "its better with friends" bs all the time. Even trophy statistics show only less than 10% player even finished the base game, less if counting DLCs. Not to mention the combat is universally agreed the worst part of it.

Funnily enough, TW3 was the one that got me more interested in Elden Ring and that was just like a month before ER's release. I was never really on-board with the whole open world thing since I have played some of the AC games and only a few stood out to me.

the difference between cod and from soft games is that a new cod comes out every year, filled with microtransaction and lazy uninspired copy pastes and ideas that you get burn out from them super fast. while a from soft game comes out only every couple of years with completely new bosses and enemies and world building with so much passion and love put into the world and characters that despite having very similar core mechanics they feel like completely different experiences.
Yea, this. And honestly, I would argue that while he pointed out Sekiro was different, Bloodborne is also very different in many ways to dark souls games. Plus there’s what, 4 similar games in mechanical but differ in content, and 10 cod games that all feel pretty much the same, apart from a few like infinite warfare? I think a better comparison would be CoD and Pokémon, since Pokémon is INCREDIBLY formulaic

Even if you compare DS games they may have been 3 games of the same series but they all play and feel SO MUCH different, dodge mechanics are different every time, the pacing of combat is usually different (mostly between DS2 and the others), There are new NPCs every game (looking at you, captain price and mason junior), DS2 was the only souls game that allowed for powerstancing and THANK GOD Elden Ring brought it back, Elden Ring even added jumping and attacking during it, giving combat an entirely new dimension, same with horseback combat. This different feeling is hard to get in a shooter genre, as shooters barely develop on pure gameplay, what they could do would be athmosphere (looking at cod5 here), but even that can be done greatly in soulsborne

Just like there will be another FPS game coming out every month or so. At this point its a genre and I dont expect a company to deliver on more than one genre. CD Projekt Red does story driven RPGs we dont expect them to make a FPS all of a sudden. Just like the good old bioware games were so distinct they sort of formed their entire genre.

Hugo Martin, Doom Eternal's game director, actually did work on a lot of the concept art for Pacific Rim, so there were people that kinda hoped with all the big Jaeger looking robots that we might play as one. I don't mind it that much tho, Ancient Gods ends up being a much better conclusion to the game anyway

I was only disappointed by the boss fight at the end, where the incarnation of evil decides to not get up from his mech suit and just dies. I was super hoping that he would get up from it for a new boss fight but I was sadly mistaken.

Titanfall 2 is great. Something about it just had such a strong charm and you could feel the passion. That made up for the few flaws in it, like weapon balance.

There obviously good games that come out but if you compare the amount of good game per decade it’s abysmal. Rockstar dropped bully,gta San Andreas and 4, red dead, the manhunt games. After that bungee dropped halo 1,2,3 and reach. Bethesda dropped fallout new Vegas, fallout 3, skyrim, oblivion. Cod dropped cod mw, waw, mw2,black ops,mw3,black ops 2. You had the whole mass effect trilogy. The fable games, all the lego games, and all these games came out between 2000-2010 so yeah there’s most certainly there has been a drop in quality across the board when it comes to modern video games.

I disagree that FromSoftware improves the formulae with each iteration and COD gets worse everytime. COD had a big jump in quality with Infinite Warfare to Modern Warfare and then Cold War after that. Vanguard still sucks ass. And FromSoftware went from Dark Souls 1 to Dark Souls 2. Just such a fundamental step down in the gameplay with Dark Souls 1 to 2.

I honestly agree with this. Gaming companies bragging about their game being open world is just like how they brag about their game of being multiplayer. Open world games have been so overused to this point where it’s not even a fascinating or interesting concept anymore. We’ve seen it too many times to the point where now I genuinely want a game that confines you to specific levels. Like Star Wars Battlefront 2.
Tbh the only good open world game I’ve played it BOTW, where it actually feels open, and you don’t need to follow a damn quest line. Like I can do whatever the hell i want man don’t tell me where to go

@@maismade6013 People don't hate COD because they release the same thing every time, that's BS, it's nothing like FromSoft, they hate them because of the mandatory microtransaction system, awful campaigns & sometimes getting rid of it entirely . Not because it has the same gameplay, MW trilogy is a classic, they're almost identical but globally loved .

Sure I guess for the older games they were "mandatory," a lot of people actually really enjoy and like the campaigns most of them at least sure there are a few that aren't great but most are pretty good and a single game does it and it's now sometimes that's not what sometimes means. But if you break it down to a simple gameplay "shoot person they die" mechanic then I guess you can consider them identical

I guess so, but when the lore of each game is so interesting that similar gameplay elements are fine. Also each from software game is also completely finished and released at a good pace. The gameplay of a from software game is also important to the atmosphere and tone and world building. So I’m fine if it’s reformatted for new areas and bosses, because that’s what’s part of the experience; discovery. Feel like that justifies how formulaic they can be. What’s Cod’s justification

What is kind of annoying is the comparison he drew. Its like saying cheese and ice cream are the same because they are both made of dairy… There’s an obvious difference between cod and fromsoft games.
It's not just the lore and world. Every new game has the same key points, but they are given a different spin or just are improved with new releases
Cods justification is that it’s gameplay is its biggest selling point. No one buys it for its story.
I would love if they decide to remake or make sequels to some of their older IP's like tenchu or armored core. Even Miyazaki is probably tired of having to create fantastic games every few years.
@@adamscheu4218 yeah, but people also buy it expecting a functioning game with a decent amount of content. There’s no benefit to pumping out an unplayable game every year which only has enough content post-launch. Also when so much of the gameplay is similar, story is one of the selling points to buy a new CoD game.

Titanfall 2 is one of the greatest fps's ever released. I'm not talking about the campaign I'm just taking about the gameplay and multiplayer. It brought so much change and variety to what is a pretty stale genre of games.

There could be a problem with how slow the Jaeger moves, I mean look at Uprising, those Jaeger did shits like they're a gymnast and people criticize them for it, it needs to feel heavy and mechanical like the original Pacific Rim to immerse you in, I think, if they'll make a game, I don't think it should be a VR one

Cayde’s death was not my end of D2 but since they are going to or have removed Forsaken I’ve literally dropped D2 and I refuse to buy anything else from bungie. If you wanna kill a character fine but don’t get rid of all the ways people could still experience him.
Cayde wasn't charismatic... Well, he was in the first game. But he fuckin' sucked in the second. Writers tried WAY too hard on his script, and you can hear it. The single time I actually liked Cayde was before he got shot. Destiny's writing is so much stronger without him now, and I'd rather eat the same bullet he did if it meant he was coming back (with the original caliber of writing). Now, if he came back and was given decent writing that didn't require a joke every couple minutes? I'd give that a solid try.
That's a hot take on its own, but I stand by it.

@@theamazinggarbage3209 Where did I call Destiny's writing good? I just pointed out that it got better when he ate the bullet. Garbage is still garbage, even if you add a little Lysol to the pile. I don't have faith in Bungie to produce a great story, but I do think they could write a good Cayde if they put all their braincells together. And I do read the lore... the Cayde I enjoyed was such a little part of it, at least until his Ace of Spades quest/associated lore came out... which came after he died.
