      You talking about the battery screw... or the one in my head?

    Good work on that one Paul. Had the same issue with one I was working on the other day.
    Had some minor water damage, once the board issues were fixed was struck with the corrupt hdd.

      Not sure what's causing it - but definitely once I put a new install of Mountain Lion on, from the restore/recovery partition, it was all working well. A bit odd.

      Managed to do my first purchase from union repair. Got a few goodies. Next purchase is the new hot air station. The unit from jaycar is a piece of crap.

      @@mrkakaonu Good move getting a new station; the Quick 861DW of course is a unit that you can't go wrong with. I've tried the bent nozzles and gone back to the straight.

    • @mrkakaonu
      @mrkakaonu 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Daniels I wondered about the bent nozzles. I only have the straight ones on my machine now. Did you stick to the standard ones out of the box or get different sized ones ?

    • @pldaniels
      @pldaniels  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrkakaonu standard out of the box stuff. The bent nozzles can be useful but they impact the airflow a bit too much, I think that they'd be better off using a long-straight nozzle that's been bent down, rather than this 45' cut nonsense.

    A nice additional feature for FlexBV would be if right click on a part name in the pdf would allow to automatically file a part search. This would eliminate the tedious copy pasting...

    • @pldaniels
      @pldaniels  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you explain that in more detail please?
      Right now, you can just right click on the part name, then go Search->Parts and ctrl-v (paste) on Windows, or middle click on Linux and it'll populate.
      There's no way to reliably distinguish between requesting a part-code (R1506 etc) and a component name/model to do a PDF-part-search on.

    • @cls9474
      @cls9474 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paul!
      yes, some smart stuff is required here to guess the correct search terms. But isn't Apple pretty consistent with their designators? This would open up the path for some regex matching (one could add additional regex parsers for other manufacturers). Some additional smart UI design additions could speed up the workflow then, e.g. clearing individual search terms through a dedicated button [X] or so to clear unwanted search terms.
      The idea just came to my mind after seeing you copy pasting stuff around in several repair videos and I thought: this cool part search deserves a better integration...
      Great stuff!
      Regards, Uli

    I thought Apple wanted techs to be a certified tech to repair MacBooks since they started blocking their machine after repair unless you have a special software given by them. Great repair anyways and good job!

    Hello Paul, so i have a similar board,came for no backlight. if i hook it up to an external display i get normal image.when i test voltage on Pin 1 of lcd Connector(PPVOUT_S0_LCDBKLT) I Get 55V. is that means i need to change LCD Panel(or led strip if i have the courage) ?Thank You in Advance

    • @pldaniels
      @pldaniels  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely try another panel. 55V implies no load on the backlight output.

    Smashing job, well done :-D.
    And the connector, well i didn't see nuffin guv na lol.
    The only thing i try to remember is whatever channel the fet is, invert it for gate polarity.
    I've swapped out loads of mosfets in small switchmodes, but never really got a feel for there fine details.
    I still find pnp transistors bloody odd, i don't think backwards too well :-D

    • @lesleymunro4964
      @lesleymunro4964 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah, PNP's and p-channel mosfets get confusing. I hate the way the datasheets are, everything in negative voltages. :) If they're connected to positive rails, i think it helps to just think of that rail like a ground, then everything is just like "normal" circuits but flipped upside down. then the base or gate biasing makes a lot more sense.

      Yes i've always had problems with negative drive, i don't mind logic grounding a pull up resistor to show a low state, but that's on/off.
      I think we all have some kind of difficulty with aspects of electronics.
      Sometimes it's just having the right interpreter to say it in a way that makes more sense :-)

      I used to have dramas remembering which way the arrow went with N vs P MOSFETS, until I determined that the P ones, the arrow is P'ing out of the MOSFET ;)
