This is late but it makes so much sense. In "good for you", Heidi, Jared and his mom were all telling him how his mistakes were his responsibility and he played the victim, trying to find a way out of his 'problem'. And Connor's ghost was there the whole time to remind him.

If you ignore its from a musical it's like a real song, there is no strait forward dialogue that talks about any other character nor does it say any names. Which is why I enjoy this song so much :)

What if he meant:
"But every *son* doesn't rise." Rather than "sun". Of course we know he didn't and "son" isn't as relatable. But if you look at it through his life, his dad left which is part of why he's like this. I just feel like it's a perfect set up for "but every *son* doesn't rise" if you ever hear it that way. And the double meaning would create so much more symbolism.
