Great customization! I did almost the same thing with my PS3, but instead of just making a hole in the top, I put a fan in place and also opened a second hole on top and inserted an inverted fan, giving direct access to the power source to remove excess heat. It had three fans: two at the top and one at the bottom. Even with poor quality thermal paste, temperatures were between 104°F and 122°F.
Bro my ps3 over heats like a m***** f***** right now. I’ve looked all over and you are the only one with a decent solution! I’m going to order my parts tomorrow and install

Personally I'd also use the fans data line as well with the consoles so it will turn off when the system doesn't require additional cooling. Jus me though man, not trolling. This was an excellent video, you did well. 🤘😎
Bottom fan/cut is not recommended All you need to do is do a cricle hole on the top shell like he did and put a dustfilter and install a fan if you want it to run cooler
The choice of preference is up to the user, whatever makes life easier and how happy you are with the customization. I figured I try it out I have two systems one with it and one without and so far is still holding up strong.
@Bubsy_Mods yeah I know but it'll run more cooler if u putted a fan on top your temps will drop from 59c to 55-54c I tested it myself bottom cut won't really do much and will ruin airflow
I suppose the original cooling fan sucks air from its both sides (Top and bottom). Even if it can suck air directly from outside after the mod, it still tend to suck air from its bottom (Motherboard side). In this case, will it be better to make the extra fan you installed suck air into the console, instead of pushing air out. IN this case, the extra cool air from outside will further build up the pressure with in the console, which not only supply enough air for original fan, but can also carry the motherboard heat out of the shell via side vents.
You don't want to blow air into the unit you want to run a fan sucking the air out of the unit all you're going to be doing by blowing air in is not cold air you're just circulating the heat and moving around dust on the motherboard if anything you run two smaller fans one in one out or a bigger fan sucking heat out that's allowing the natural vents of the system to move better air flow never blow heat on top of heat on electronics.
Are those cutting blades backwards on that drill attachment? Would have had an easier time with a hole saw. Also those acrylic pieces are fan grills not filters. Either way still informative.
I did the same thing but on xb360. And would fix RRoD, up 18 of them as a hobby. But ya lost it all in the divorce. But cool to see more inspiration from other like minded gents.
Wouldn't it be better to find a 5volt line inside the PS3 to power the fan rather than using an external power supply? or if the top fan runs on 5 volts then you could solder the wires on to that to power the bottom fan.

why would you filter the air out of the PS3? to keep the dust in and block the filter? It's completely illogical, only a grill on the FAN and that would be perfect...
As you can see in the video in the front of the console I've put a dust filter and under the console I put the fan as an exhaust to get the heat out better. Opening of the front of the console allows the cool air to get in better and push out underneath. To each their own choice whether if you want to do the bottom portion or not. @@Bubsy_Mods yeah it will work np the cpu and gpu are getting cold nice but keep in mind doing a mod to cool the psu and bd if you are using it would be better
why would you filter the air out of the PS3? to keep the dust in and block the filter? It's completely illogical, only a grill on the FAN and that would be perfect...
As you can see in the video in the front of the console I've put a dust filter and under the console I put the fan as an exhaust to get the heat out better. Opening of the front of the console allows the cool air to get in better and push out underneath. To each their own choice whether if you want to do the bottom portion or not.
Take your time and look under your ps3 slim you'll see small openings around the console. I did this to let out the heat better.
@@Bubsy_Mods putting a filter on the exhaust will reduce airflow in time once it gets clogged up...let the lints go their way...you will see in time, who's been doing or seen this a lot...knows...making better sucktion pressure/vacum will generate a better airflow...restricting the exhaust and it getting collged eventually is not easy as you have to dismantle the PS3 again to clear it, it's easier to vacuum clean it weekely at the intake...anyway...look it up...
@@dj.luckyjulianojulio3350 Dust is all around us and yes cleaning and/or vacuuming is a must! Only reason I did this is to avoid overheating issues that is common on the PS3.
@@Bubsy_Mods mate I agree dust is all around, I myself will do almost the same procedure to 5 PS3s but that filter on th3 exhaust is not ok, just look at any of your PC fans...do they have a filter on the exhaust?...anyway...everyone is free to do things as they think is best...my point...was that filter will only create the same problem you want to salve by your mod...just look it up...
@@Bubsy_Mods If the bottom fan is sucking air out of the ps3 then you don't need the filter on the bottom
but not for the greece ?
modded PS3 40% fan speed all the time + sanded heat block never goes over 50 deg. even after 12h of gaming if i remove the top cover temps drop into the 40 so fan on the back is not need just mod your ps3
If you live in nyc anyway I can pay you to do this to my PS3?
Thank you DJ AG. Honestly I do this when I have free time. Usually I am busy with work and other priorities. The only reason I do these tutorials are for educational purposes and help the user end.
Seriously don’t do this. If your slim is hot, open it up, clean it out and apply new thermal paste.
There are other components that heat up inside the PS3.
1. is the nec toking capacitors and they blow out.
2. the power supply is also inside the system which causes build up of heat.
3. the heating factor from the CPU and GPU chipsets.
You may think the thermal paste might help, which it does to an extent but I still lost 2 systems and this customization has lasted me for a while and the system is still kicking.

there's no gpu the CPU is the gpu
Not true:
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3_technical_specifications
Slim model I'm using for this mod has a Cell with 45nm (CPU) and RSX with 65nm (GPU)
No there is cpu and gpu in all ps3 but in ps4 its apu the cpu and gpu in one
@@Bubsy_Mods isn't the gpu integrated with the CPU ?
@@srp770 check out the wiki link technical specs to give you and idea for each model I posted above.
