You only have to loosen two screws in the console compartment under the armrest, and then you can lift and remove the whole center trim piece, so you won't break it and have better access to everything under it
Worked for my 2008 Touareg. Needed to put car in neutral so it could be towed to shop. Battery tested good but car would not crank or even click. I think it does not know that I am stepping on the brake .
This is very helpful, however, not necessary, if you have a dead battery and can not get it to shift all you have to do is open the hood, attach jumper cables to the jumper posts and either a good battery, jumper or a car and there you have it, plenty of power to execute anything you'd like to in terms of moving the shift lever.

KW57 Rx8Dr. Hey I’m not getting any attack sense:) all I’m trying to say is for sure if you battery died, don’t go tangling on any release mechs... but this video is more for situation like when your kessy died and the ignition lock is not responsive.... or like we get allot of flooded cars in, and those don’t respond as well... but we need to get them off of the transport, and be able to roll around until we figure out the problem... for sure I agree if you think there is a dead battery issue doing that makes no sense...
I have a problem with my 09 VW cc when I put it in Drive the red light doesn’t pop on all other gears the red light shows instantly it’s weird cause it locks in D perfectly and drives good but the light doesn’t come on most of the time for D only ?? 🤷♂️

Today everything works except that my key remains blocked and on the dashboard I am asked to put myself on p while knowing that it is already on P.Ma discharge battery every day. Do you have an idea to solve this problem?
Hi, my gearstick has come out of the carousol and is sticking. i can just about change gear but its a big effort... what is the surround around the stick called?
@Abdulai Jabbie you dont know what youre talking about it works 100% as I just did it with my own 04 toureg. Although on mine it was a black lever. I Just pushed it over to the drivers side (left side) of the vehicle and it unlocks the shifter. Break the lever off with a chisel if you want a permanent solution.
hello,i have the same problem,i did as directed here on your video,it did remove the gear from park and goes all well in att the directions up from p down to S but when i take it back up to p it gets stock once again and again.please wat can i do about this?
Totally works for a 2004 toureg. I just did it on my 2004. Break the lever off with a chisel if you want a permanent solution. You should take the whole trim piece off to get at it with a chisel though.

Do I need to do something to disengage the transmission/ transfer case if i want to winch my car to a flatbed?

It's more easy and faster to lift up only the silver ornament and you have access to the shifter release...
Even faster and easier to do it the way I suggest above..

It worked for me but the shifter keeps getting stock in park. I need a permanent solution.
Take a chisel and cut/break the plastic lever that he is manipulating to unlock the shift lever. Works 100%

its going to happen every time so you would have to deal with it unfortunately EVERYTIME after putting it in P mode until you get it fixed!
Yes it does, I have 3 of them and at one point have had to do it to at least two of them and it works with both of them
