      Thank you Bob, this comment really makes my day. I took this hobby up to showcase our great areas. I watch alot of Travel videos and its always the same tired tropes of Cancun, Swiss Alps, Manhattan. Pennsylvania, along with the rest of America, is beautiful and full of so much local history that no one showcases.

    I live in the hip and modern city of Chicago. Those of you who are bad-mouthing Reading, come to Chicago and ride the " Red Line L. I dare you. If you can make it from Howard St. To 95 th St. and back without incident, you would be extremely fortunate. I was born in St. Joe's and miss Reading every day.

    Full reveal...I grew up in reading and recognize and have been to all the locations shown, with small exception for the parking lots of pretzel makers. Nice to highlight the rail history. There are tracks everywhere around reading. My grandpa was 49 year vet of reading company, so I grew up around trains even though we lived in reiffton. Two things also worth mentioning: the outlet boom of the 70s and 80s, and the phenomenon that is (now was) Al Boscov. Boscov's dept stores (remember those?) Are still thriving is this age of amazon and walmart. There are statues of him. This guy had some kind of gift for retail. Thanks for your story.

    Not bad but implies certain attractions are in Reading when not even in same county, like Rickett's Glen and Steamtown.

    • @JoseOnTour
      @JoseOnTour  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you for watching the video Kristin. While Steam town Historical Museum did come up in the video, it was more to show the Reading Lines beautiful Engine. The Reading Museum was closed when I visited and I really wanted to showcase a Reading Lines Train at its most pristine form. The Ricketts Glenn scene was more for humor purposes recalling previous videos to those who’ve followed the channel.

    "A cultural hub of food and art". To anyone visiting my hometown. Keep your head on a swivel and don't relax within city limits. This is a fluffed up video cherry picking areas. The outer burbs and West Reading are alright.
    And wtf is up with Ricketts Glen in the video? That's like 2hours North.

    Yeah visit the Pagoda in Reading pa because, that's all you have left. The big corporations, gone. The reading fairs and carnivals, gone, The great reading airshow, gone. Remember the outlets? Gone. All the movie theaters that used to be lined up on penn street, gone. The famous reading railroad, gone. The bustling downtown shopping and restaurants, gone. The mills and big jobs, gone. Schlegel park and swimming pool is closed. The old reading culture has been replaced by Latino, cuban, Mexican, and Puerto Rican cultures which has little stores on every damn corner of the city. Drug use is on the rise, crime is up, yes, the pagoda is all you got left. Give it time and soon, the pagoda will be gone too. The mayor sucks. So im sorry to say but reading is one big ghetto now. A city slowly dieing away.

    • @MochaQueen5
      @MochaQueen5 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      PA is dying and losing businesses and professionals because everything in PA is just too old. Young professionals aren't attracted to living in cities with old homes, old apartments, and old structures with little to nothing to offer for entertainment. Young people really don't care about "Historical" they want NEW. New modern cities, modern transportation, modern neighborhoods. It's not the Latinos because to say that implies that Mexico and Puerto Rico is all just junkies and dealers and that's not true those places are thriving more than PA is right now. Americans are moving to Mexico to retire and Vacationing and buying homes in Puerto Rico and Mexico. It's the fact that PA hasn't ever taken the time to modernize like FL, VA, GA, TX, NC etc. 90% of PA is very old and rural. Not attractive to young professionals. I'm from NYC, I didn't think places like PA still existed. I've never seen such old homes that don't even have the basics, like a water hose or finished basements. Young people do not want that. I can't wait to move to the south. PA has the beauty of a once historical charm. Unfortunately people would rather read about that not still live like that. Another problem that makes PA very undesirable is it's lack of diversity. PA doesn't welcome all people. The south has way more diversity now than a lot of northern areas do. PA has a reputation for being racist (Pennsyltucky), a rude state and a dirty state too (Rusted cars are norm). I can say all that is accurate unfortunately. Your comment is proof. The whole state is blaming Latinos for being an undesirable place to live but haven't spent any time or effort beautifying or on modernization. Make it make sense 🤷. Take page from Texas's 📓 they have a large Latino population and they are thriving. Colorado thriving large Latino community. NYC largest Puerto Rican community in the US and still thriving.
