I used to sell refurbed Videodisc and Laserdisc players on Ebay, but not for the last 10 years. Got burned like you from an ignorant buyer who bought an RCA CED player that I put into perfect condition, then did not know how to use it once they got it, and just could not follow any instructions I gave no matter what.
This was a lady who just had a bug about having a vintage and rare electronics device, even though her knowledge about such was ZERO. So I had her just return it, and it came back all busted up due to rotten packing. Ebay wouldn't believe me, and just claimed it was broken on arrival per her claim.
So like you, I say screw Ebay. I never sold another player on there ever again. I just post them on Craigslist at a much cheaper price and watch them go out the door, since I don't have to pack them and pay any extra shipping.
Would you like a CED player? I'll give you a working one at no charge with a few free discs too. They are great for CRT TVs. Don't know if you've ever had one. They are pretty neat.

The injustice is so obvious to see in RTVPN's video and all the comments - There must be thousands of us shafted enough to never forget it.
I found a CED player, maybe a Toshiba if I remember correctly? Along with ten or twenty discs hidden in the old stock of a HiFi shop I worked at. We played with it and it was great fun - though I don't think I was too impressed with resolution and fidelity...I was though astounded when I saw the stylus...

I was introduced to Ebay by a coworker way back in 1999. Ebay was great then but imagine selling/buying without pictures!! 3 years ago, they had developed semi auto listing which included some garbage about the seller having no shipping charge. I specifically stated the shipping charge...to prevent what happened to me. The winning buyer still argued he was not paying for shipping, so I challenged the purchase and ultimately withdrew the item citing a cause that it was broken. It had been broken and I was selling it as that, but figured the buyer would later challenge that also once he got the item. Ebay still charged me the fees!! So now, in the last 3 years I have been on hiatus for the reasons you cite!!!! The fees have become horrible for the small guy anyway.

This is the precise reason I quit selling on ebay. Ever since the CEO announced years ago that eBay would be going to align itself with "product based" selling instead of "flea market" based selling, this is whats happened. Calling Ebay helps, a lot. Don't go through only the online system. I've had Ebay immediately side with me as the seller for buyer claims against me for as-is items. Ebay can see all messages between you and the buyer so keep all communication civil. They will look at the messages when you call them. They have the power to immediately close cases in the seller's favor if you call and ask them to look at the case, if you are in the right.

Sorry to hear a buyer burned you like that! I’ve been a buyer only on eBay for many years. I will probably never be an eBay seller after watching your video and reading the high number of comments about how poorly eBay treats it’s sellers. I just filed my first claim under buyer protection with eBay because a lot of 11 sixteen mm films I’d purchased were so poorly packed, taped together with scotch tape, not in a box, that they got separated in shipping. I only got 2 out of 11. I emailed the seller, who only wanted to argue that they were shipped and that they “used a whole roll of scotch tape” so it must be my fault. Anyway, eBay refunded me AND told me that they were letting the seller keep the sales proceeds. Maybe it all depends on who happens to handle the case at eBay. I don’t know. Maybe you could call them and ask that they review the handling of it in regards to you being a seller with an impeccable reputation. Anyway, thanks for the great videos on TH-cam!

If you listed it just as unknown condition or something then you right.. the buyer had no case... but if you listed the item as WORKING condition and then when they got it it wasn't then they could return no matter what your 'policy' is. If the item is not as described then hat is automatically eligible for return. If it is an item that is just for 'parts' or not working order then I would make the buyer pay for return shipping in that case and subtract the shipping you paid t get it there from their monetary return...

Unfortunately I have a different situation (I know it is not relevant to this video and posts) that is often the case with heavy and vintage equipment. Happened today. Legit seller, legit buyer. Probably more relevant to the 'bubble wrap theater' issue you have encountered before, but that situation of poor packaging has not happened to me but rather the USPS probably the culprit with even very well-packed equipment. What to be learned of here is buy something refurbished, not used and the item works without how well it works. Many of non-restored cassette recorders have bad belts or from a smoker's home, causing recording quality problems. Other thing is you have not a clue whether the item is sent via UPS, FedEx, or USPS. UPS or FedEx are ideal for high price or weight packages. Had just bought a tape deck and arrived damaged, and it was both heavy and not a cheap purchase. This is an example where the risk of damage is higher with USPS. It was a neat vintage high-end unit that is hard to come by in restored condition, especially one where the seller was hesitant to sell, where that hard work went down the spiral. Always best to have a tracking number, insured, and on camera doing unboxing because this sort of thing happens more often then one might think.

The later systems such as N2, N3 and the coaxial based L-carrier all used the more famous 2600hz tone, which could be blasted down the line and allow early hackers('60s-'70s) called Phone Phreaks to hack the network and place free calls. 3700hz was higher than talk frequencies and as such hacking attempts could be easily defeated with a high pass filter at each end of the trunk.

Either cancel zero feedback bids, or just go through Facebook marketplace, it's been a really good platform for us to sell a couple of little things through with just as good exposure as scambay & the advantage that you can swap contact details, get a feel for the buyer etc plus it's free.

One issue with Ebay is that it is managed and operated by people from another country who have a "Burger King" concept of customer service. I feel strongly that if it were an American company with American values and retail concepts, the situation would be different. Customer service is handled by some idiot in a cubicle in either India or the Philippines. I worked for Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue, so I know the concept of "going the extra mile " for the consumer.. Ebay is only a place to now buy an obscure item that is difficult to find. I also "used to sell" on Ebay and have been cheated by dishonest buyers ( the worst is a similar story to this one ).

Walmart mindset is right! They see no value in quality and their dollar is worth more to them than their life or time. I don't return anything for refunds either. Walmart fixed it where people don't have to be responsible for their decisions or anything else. All the corporate retailers are doing it but if just one went back charging restocking fees they would all follow suit and get back to making profit doing business with people who mean business.

You can set your buyer preferences so zero feedback bidders can't bid. But that ain't going to help if a buyer with feedback wants to screw you over. I've had the same thing happen to me. Luckily the buyer never pursued it and the case expired. The scam you mention here is a BIG risk you take selling on eBay and it sucks!

Can you suggest a really selective and sensitive shortwave regenerative receiver circuit? I have over 1,500 tubes of all filament voltages and probably most of the parts, metal chassis, several small gauges of wire (#20 to #26) and all the knobs , hardware, Trimm headphones, etc. This will be my first project in regen receivers and I want to spend my time building something that really works well. Plugin coils will be OK and a bandspread capability would be nice. I just want something that will work in case of an EMP of any kind happens. Been a Ham since 1979, but never built a regen, but did build my own amps, Heathkits, antenna relays and such. Built a MFJ regen receiver, but it was all solid state stuff. I have been asking for a good circuit to build, and it looks like you have the experience to recommend a good one. If I screw up, I won't blame you - guaranteed. It once was, that everyone felt that eBay favored the seller, but now that eBay is competing with Amazon, and it seems that most of the eBay sellers are made up of bigger companies selling new stuff (alot of them selling on Amazon as well) and now things are very different on there. You’d probably do better to create yourself a website (www.radiotvphononut.com or some such) to showcase your business and sell restored machines directly from there. You’d probably have to set up a way to capture and collect credit card payments (waiting on money orders sent by the mail would just be another horror story, plus most people probably wouldn’t bother doing business that way anymore). Yes, you probably got scammed and I understand how you feel, but it really just has more to do with people’s lack of morality these days. About a dozen years ago, I was selling new-old-stock antique car parts at a swap meet for a brand specific car make at a club event. At the end of the day, several items were missing when I packed up. Yep, somebody actually shoplifted items right in front of me while my head was turned or I was helping someone else.

As a buyer, I've had some terrible experiences on eBay with crooked sellers, so I'm generally thankful for buyer protection... but doesn't the buyer have to prove their allegation before eBay will find in their favor? I once received a turntable that was completely different than the one in the listing AND it was smashed to bits. The packaging was perfect; it was clearly that the seller simply dumped the already-smashed turntable into the box. Even though the seller allowed returns, they only wanted to offer me a very small partial refund. I had to fight like hell to get my money back, sending lots of photos to eBay as documentation of my allegation, and it took several days for eBay to make a decision.

This is why when i sell stuff like electronics i do pc's i make sure the computer runs good and actually use it prior to selling, i will show who ever wants the machine how it runs and what's in it before they get it, i know in past i got ripped off from people who would wanna try the computers or what not and see if they like it before paying, but no more as i have too had people just never pay or pay half what i originally wanted, they would claim that times are tough and have no money, so now if some one wants some thing they gotta pay first, i'll set it up show them how to run it etc. if they like it they can buy it, if not then no deal.i have never sold on E bay except some old radios years ago. but it happens some people are honest some not, that's the problem todays world, hopefully you can find a new way to sell the stuff you have, as some of that is some good stuff and well made stuff. what i wish i could have found is another radio tv combo type thing like we had decades ago as kids. now those were nice and real furniture and sounds better than any thing today would, but i will prolly never find or see one here. as in Ny here they would be rare to find if at all.

You can list terms and conditions in your eBay listing, but if you use the words "if you do not agree to these terms and conditions please do not bid" their artificial intelligence engine will not allow you to do it saying it is rude. Rude my butt. It's not rude this is the terms and conditions if you don't agree to them bid on another auction. I've been lucky over the years selling on eBay with only one or two idiots. You are correct though it will only take one to put you completely off listing anything there. Good luck to you. Really enjoy the videos. Also if you decide to list on eBay again oh, I would strongly recommend getting some tamper-proof labels made. You can get them serialized with your do not tamper message embossed upon them.also if you decide to list on eBay again, I would strongly recommend getting some pamper proof labels made. You can get them with your message embossed on the label. Unfortunately there are so many people that will take an item that has optional circuits filters etc internally, remove them smash the device with a hammer and claimed that it was not pack sufficiently and request a refund. You get a Total wreck back minus the expensive options.
