To show the difference in treatment that slaves received based on their skin color. Eliza has very fair skin and throughout the story goes north and gets better treatment. Tom is very dark on the other hand so he gets treated worse and worse as he is pushed further and further south.
Fun fact: Uncle Tom's cabin is what Jose Rizal is inspired to write Noli me Tangere. For those who don't know what Noli me Tangere is, it exposed the harsh treatment Spain did to the Philippines. It follows Crisostomo Ibarra, a Filipino student who studied in Europe for 7 years, goes back to the Philippines.
Thank you for the video it is helpful. I'm about to start my MA studies in English literature very soon so I'm trying to prepare myself and this is one of the books that are included in one of the courses. I don't have time to read the book, so I'm trying to go with summaries and analyses.
@@ElwinStudios Your video is well edited I would've thought you had like hundreds of thousands of subs and for some reason, you give me good-friend vibes. I'm just trying to get around the 18th century vocabulary as it can be challenging. English isn't even my native language.
Sorry for the late reply! Only saw this just now The older style of writing definitely takes a bit of time to get used to. But it is true, the audiobook is very engaging and clear!
I don’t blame you. The 19th-century prose and Christian rhetoric will understandably bore many readers. I personally enjoyed it and Little Miss Eva is my favorite character because of her innocence and optimism
I can’t be the only one who is confused why half the “black characters” look indistinguishably white in the photos?

Thank u so muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Why do some Blacks call other Blacks "Uncle Tom".?..I don't get the
connection.
It's mainly used for sellouts who finally "passed" in the white house
Am I the only person here who didn't like the book and found it boring? I also didn't like any characters.
