It's basic game theory. The Nash equilibrium perfectly applies here. The best outcome is if you choose steal. It doesn't matter what the other one chooses. That's the genius of this game, if everyone were to follow the correct choice, ie steal, the show would never have to pay anyone anything.

He looks innocent and doesn’t even intervene when she was telling him to split but what gave him away and was too obvious that he will steal his body language at 1:16 when he was shaking his head disagreeing with the thought of choosing the steal ball and going home with nothing he was shaking his head as a “no” but his facial expression said “yes” 🙂😂 I can’t believe how she fell for it.
John pissed me off in end saying he felt sorry for Tina. I'm not being funny if he said he felt sorry for her he should chosen the split ball instead of steal ball. Another thing, he made me laugh when he mentioned the word "loser" because John is the biggest loser in the programme. 😂
the guy tried to justify stealing by comparing it to be like poker. it's nothing like poker. poker is a game of luck and chance split or steal is a game of greed lies/vs non greedy truthfulness

If they phrased "Plit/Stel" as share/keep, it wouldn't seem so anti-moralistic. The fact is that this is a great gameshow. All about judgement and trust.
