How To Build A Bar Stool Step Ladder

Today I am showing you how to build a bar stool step ladder. That's right it's two in one. A stool for sitting, flip it over then it becomes a step ladder. Very useful around the house.
I have always wanted to build one and I really need one. I know it's not very pretty, but it functions exactly how I wanted it to. I have a place to store it under my workbench.

This design is a simplified version of the old Hoosier step stool style. It's such a great stool I mean step stool, I mean both. My stool is a shorter 24" version. I needed it to fit under my workbench and I didn't need it too tall.
I feel this design is really easy and a simple 2x4 project than anyone can build. I found wood around my shop and build it under two hours. You can find the plans here in our Remodelaholic shop. shop.remodelah...

Great idea ! I think it would be more stable with some half lap joints. All the weight is being held by the screws. Or add support legs running up and down instead

I made one of these yesterday. Nice multipurpose stool. It's a bit heavy, if I made one again I'd use something lighter for the seat and steps. I'd also recommend putting glue on all joints for increased strength, and possibly adding a stability support on the front of the stool as well (I think I'm going to use a 2x2 piece). Finished it with Golden Oak Danish oil, looks pretty good.

@@Remodelaholic - I love this design for it's simplicity and minimalist design. I would love to see something contemporary and a combination between this and the Ben Franklin Step chair. I am going to have to think about the design a bit, I am going to start a free standing building for my studio and I intend to incorporate said ladder/stool to use in there.
I was thinking an exposed plywood option could be kind of modern and cool... we are definitely thinking of more options!!!
