We have a small 4wd and a lightweight off-road pod trailer with our camping gear in it. It was set-up for outback touring around OZ and has served us well. Now we have brought our rig with us here to tour NZ. Based in Auckland, we have already toured the top end. This summer we will head for some beach camping near the tip of Coromandel Peninsular. We might make it down the Bay of Plenty and around the East Cape as well, depending on weather and crowds. Autumn 2025, we are heading to the South Island... Your shared trip around the coast will be very helpful. Thanks for your efforts.
Thanks for this. I used to live in HakaHaka bay, as a kid some 40 years ago. HakaHaka is the first bay you got to at the bottom of the hill, some 19km from Picton. Many memories there.
We live in Picton, and often drive over to Oyster Bay. It’s a nice spot for a swim and a picnic. We drove from Rarangi to Oyster Bay and on to Picton on one occasion, the road is unsealed from Whites Bay turnoff to Oyster Bay, then sealed, but narrow and winding back to Karaka Point and Waikawa Bay.
Nice recap for me, cycled Picton, Spring Creek, Cloudy Bay then back to Picton on the coast road in Autumn 2022. Was lovely (similar weather) and near deserted, memorable ride
I remember this road when i did it in 1973 it had gates cattle stops and corners that you had to back up to get around i was driving a singer vogue an awesome car you are inspiring me to do it again so in a fortnight thats what I'll do this time in my toyota noah thanks for the memories
We can only pray that you used the "Comic Sans" font ironically. Because that font makes an awful lot of people very angry indeed. I suggest you never use it again, unless you are making a comic. That will avoid triggering the Font Mafia, and earn you fewer downvotes over time.
Awesome! So looking forward to following you on your journey around the coastline of NZ and all the hidden gems it has to offer😊👍

you might have to back up for a logging truck or towed boat- but enjoy it anyway
I lived in Oyster Bay back in the early 90s. Was a dear and Angora goat farm back then. Plus working on the barges on muscle farms. All good memories.
Oyster Bay is a hidden gem in Marlborough
Same about all pine trees native bush would look better
