Just to point out, the mother died committing suicide. The dance sequence was her dancing on a rooftop and then ultimately leaping to her death. You can also hear the thud of when her body hit the pavement. Masterpiece of an episode...
I'm kinda disappointed how they censored it most anime viewers won't understand that
You can also see the mom took money from her prostitution to buy the dress hence why the guys came to "punish" her for stealing the money that was "their due"
Also the girl is dead too so she might have got her organ sold or killed while getting sold off for human trafficking
@@kurols6453 ye i didnt catch it at all i thought she died by bleeding out on the street
@@kurols6453 Had to, due to rules against depictions of it.
As-is, they conveyed the beauty of it. If they also conveyed _exactly_ what she did, like, no subtlety, we likely wouldn’t have gotten it at all, or it would be fully cut in some locations.
@@kurols6453 It might be because of now scared Netflix is with portraying suicide. After 13 reasons why, they're SUPER careful now
I had a feeling but I didn’t want to accept that possibility because it didn’t show it.
the director was definitely fishing for an award with this episode, it was amazing
If he was fishing for an award, he certainly caught it.
He got it
While the director deserves credit. Shuuto Enomoto mostly is the one that made this episode so good. He was debuting as a storyboarder and fucking made some veteran quality boards, he also was credited as sub-character designer(basically he created character designs just for this episode), he was also an Animation Director so you could say that he basically was already in charge of the episode since he was checking peoples work on his storyboards and he was correcting the animation be it the timing and the actual drawings themselves. He was also in charge of the setting. As a debut work this was fucking phenomenal

Acrobatic Silky's daugther is NOT named Aira, most likely.
Aira called her mommy, so she remenbered that what she lost was a daughter, so Aira replaced her daugter in her memory
I mean it could be tho. I know what you mean but you never know.
I’m surprised most people haven’t noticed that
@@ziggszag1650 it was pretty much confirmed in the manga, when the panel shows acro silky and her daughter together going to the kinder world, was also having that thoughts when I first read it then when I reread it yeah

The versatility of Dandadan's storytelling is insane. Only 7 episodes in
And this is only the beginning of peak
And it's just the beginning bro, can't wait for the rest to be animated
Not only that, we're 7 episodes in, and we only got introduced to Acro-Silky(ballerina mom) in the 6th episode and Aira in the 5th one(thoroughly, I mean).
They're technically new characters.
@ and this is cour 1, cour 2 should cover up one of the most hyped upcoming arcs 😃
Someone else pointed this out in some comment section:
-The best thing that could happen to Acro's daughter was her getting killed for organs (very sad and unfrtunate) because every other outcome is just pain and depressing...
-Yes in the manga the daughter was confirmed to reunite with the Mum.
-Also in that picture perfect ballet scene, she was dancing on the rooftops (you could see the lighting and other buildings) and when she took the last leap, the camera was on a high aperture like look to focus only on her and she was actually just falling down, that splat was her reaching the bottom...
- Also the studio put this episode out on 14th November (Children's Day....)
This anime is truly something else...
Also!
-It's likely those men were Acro's pimps or some yakuza she borrowed money from
-Acro however spent the little money she had to make her daughter happy, buying her that fancy dress. This tiny choice ballooned into tragedy when the kidnappers barged in for her money
-Acro's ghost still has glass shards in her and the reason her eyes are so cavernous in her Yokai form is cause one of her eyes were gouged out
It's possible Granny looked after Acro silky's daughter if she died since she watches over grave sites of dead young girls
@@pedroian5964 ones that were assaulted specifically
The rooftop she jumped off of can be seen for a few frames. Blink and you’ll miss it.
I wish the daughter was alive, and aira got to meet and save her from whatever happened to her.
The hxh outro caught me off guard😂literally the same emotions watching this episode and the meruem/komugi one with the jolly ass music after complete emotional despair.
It was so jarring, like I was literally snot crying and then that loud ass music😂😂

Or when Nagisa died in Clannad.
This is without a doubt one of the saddest episodes I’ve ever watched in recent anime. I think what makes this episode tragic is how real it was. Her mom was involved in sex work and she did everything she could for her daughter to be happy and in return her daughter was used as punishment for not paying her debts to what looked liked loan sharks/yakuza members since she used most of the money to buy her daughter the red dress on her birthday.
It’s heavily implied her daughter got trafficked but given that the ending shows both of them reunited together, her daughter most likely died shortly after she was kidnapped, probably had her organs harvested for money. I’m glad Aira gave Acrobatic Silky that final closure before her existence faded away. Wasn’t a fan of Aira but now I’m excited to see what she does with Acrobatic Silky’s powers and how her character will develop from here on out.
Def a favorite for me in the manga with how she develops.
i cope and i hope
she's actually Aira's mother, still died relatively young, but after creating a family and having Aira, Aira gives Acrosilky the chance to save a (grand)daughter that she didn't have the strength to do before YES!!
@@cycy8699 we were shown aira's dead mother in the coffin. Aira is also completely different from her daughter. We also saw Acro-Silky and her daughter reunited in the afterlife. Your coping is stupid as fuck.
@@cycy8699 That doesn't make any sense tho. The episode literally showed Aira's mom in a casket, which has same face like Aira.
Some others have said it can't be Yakuza, because they have a law against using kids. It's seen as weakness.

Glad i was anime only, that was a beautiful first watch man they killed it🔥
@@orbboom6119even as I read the manga, I completely forgot some of the details in it. The anime gave it much more justice, contrary to what other people might seem to imply. Its so upsetting to know that there's so many people in this types of situations. people who work so much harder than others only for them to get into more terrible situations..
Make sure to tell your parent(s) that you love and appreciate them

I loved Sheera's comment about how Momo can empathize so much with them when they suffer the loss of their parents. You're always so on point, great to hear that kind of stuff.
She didn't bleed out in the puddle. She went to the top of a building in the rain, danced and jumped off. You can see the city lights below, and you can see her falling, then you hear the thud. The manga does make it clearer that she ended herself.
Her daughter's name wasn't Aira, not necessarily, the bond was made because she couldn't remember her daughter's face, she couldn't remember exactly what she lost, and when Aira called her Mother, that's when she made a connection, but, there's nothing indicating her daughter's name was Aira.
@@mythosinmedia but how little aira see her ghost ?
The last dancing scene of the mom was on a rooftop and she jumps off at the end, this is shown with the lights arcing and followed by the sound of her hitting the ground.
The daughters name wasn't Aira, but the mother was just dead for so long she forgot how her own daughter looks. So when Aira mistook her for her own mom, Silky filled in the gap of her own daughter with Aira.
As a non-manga reader this episode caught me SO off guard.
I 100% hope a vengeful spirit or alien killed those debt collectors.
lol hey Serpos... You want Bananas right?
no, they didn't and that what made it more real
they would be such easy work for any main characters idk
As a manga reader this episode caught me even more off guard
You know they didn’t
It's so hard to make me cry over a show in general, but damn, I cried for the first time with this episode. This anime is so well made, the OST, the VA and the animation, that mix of peak made me cry.
This is why anime adaptations exist. Manga panels can only display so much through its art, but seeing those panels come to life with the combination of the beautiful music and the use of silence, man…this one really hurt. Even with reading ahead through the manga, nothing could have prepared me for this level of execution. The director did an outstanding job on this. Honestly, I haven’t been impacted and destroyed from anime like this in many years. Still can’t help getting teary eyed every reaction I watch.
I genuinely did not think I was going to cry because I knew what was going to happen, but damn it the way they did this hit me like a fucking brick to the chest. They got me twice with the flashback and the hug at the end, that shit was just too beautiful and sad. I can't even imagine being a parent and watching this, has to hit that much harder. Salute to all the parents or single parents who persevere through the struggle to make sure they can take care of their kids.
in this episode u get to really see just how well the series handles comedy, action, and romance as well as incredibly dramatic and emotional moments like these. PEAK CINEMA 🗣️🗣️🔥
The scene when the child got captured is totally gonna leave a scar for the rest of my life. Its insane, how good, realistic and just the composition is perfect the way it just transicions from picture to picture. I see the world differently and this shit just hits so damn hard
The final dancing scene was her dancing on a roof top (the background is the roof of all the other buildings). She takes one final leap and the camera zooms on her head as it falls tilting forward. You get one final reminder of why she jumps off and then hear a thud.
Yeah i read the manga too, i guess that scene is way too ‘bloody’ to show on live anime since most people watch anime. Manga just hits harder. I was crying like a bitch
I get that censorship was the reason but I guess this makes sense because this is shown in her perspective. Her final dance would've been partly her imagination because she wouldn't have been able to actually dance perfectly given the state she was in (without ballet shoes nonetheless).
God, one of the HEAVIEST moments the manga gives you, Done so well. In case it wasnt clear, Silky wasn't run over or a bleed out. She found a roof and made a beautiful dance off of it.
Yeah they dont show that in the anime the same as in the manga, you get a clear panel of her dropping off a buliding
8:34 Thats the saddest "Yeeeaaaahhh?" I have ever heard
This was the chapter that made me realise that this series wasn't just going to be action and laughs the whole time
I'm bawling my eyes out when i read that part. But that's not the last tear jerker in Dandadan, believe me...

sometimes the dam breaks at the wrongest of times, this one time in highschool i was having a really bad time, not getting good grades, going to and from coaching, trying and failing again and again, it was just... too much
one day when i came back from the coaching, i had a kinda bloodied scratch on my foot, like one u get from falling down, my parents were right there and when i took off the shoes... it just came flowing, idk, the little pain was just enough to push me over.
that was the last time i remember truly kinda letting go, even when i was holding back cuz i didnt wanna let my parents see...
fortunately i had great parents, asked me what happened, tried to evade by saying its the injury, but they persisted, i just replied "..a lot" cuz its not just one thing that did that.
yeah, i think as men we should learn to kinda be more in control of whats happening, and thats not by running away from what youre feeling and ur emotions, but by truly opening up to those emotions, and understanding them, then u can truly be in control of urself
The animation and the music everything was perfect they adapted this perfectly
12:00 That’s Silky reuniting with her daughter. It could be assumed that after the loan sharks took her daughter away that they might’ve sold her to traffickers who probably killed her.

WELCOME TO DANDADAN WERE U GET COMEDY AND SORROW ALL IN ONE
This anime hit instinctual levels of dread and sadness, it feels human. Anyone can empathize with seeing someone work endlessley for their child to be happy and the nightmare of having your child taken feels so real.
I didn't think of this before watching this but seeing it animated, I think as much as Aira was being the surrogate daughter to Acro Silky so she could pass away, she was using Acro as her surrogate mother. She never got a chance to tell her actual mom that she loved her, so when she told that to Acro Silky, I think she was also saying to her actual mom so Aira herself could finally get closure
The show hit back so much cause it feels so real to the core. In actuality, this probably just one of millions unfortunate out there depicted.
Got me teared up so much realizing again how ridiculous the world are turning to. That kid man, her mother did so much to make her only know happiness, to have a dream and dance beautifully, but in instant tragic just overflowed into her in one night.
Even if your job to take money, why must you take a dream from the kid too? Do your job more important than having simple humanity or empathy? I'm so sad and disgusted. The kid's fate unknown just like every missing child.
I wish for a better world, a simple world where all kids can smile with their families. I wish I can help them to achieve this regardless of what I'm gonna be in near 5-10 years.
The author actually started this series as a way to get out of his creative block that he had after a while. So he decided to make Dandadan that creative dump for literally every single topic ever and his editor ended up loving it so much that he told Yukinobu Tatsu to lock the fuck in and make a masterpiece. From chapters 9 - 17 (Ep 5 onwards) the writing takes a very indepth turn. That's why it turned into a show about finding balls to a show with deeper backstories.
That was some Nanami dancing in the beach shit, cryed myself bilnd on this one
Best episode ever! I loved how they portrayed it. I luv how they can go from joking/goofing around to being very serious when they need to be.
So chill, love the energy here!
Why most of us shed a tear for this? Because we all knew somewhere out there it happened by alot. Its real.
DANDADAN gave us a reality gut punch in this episode.
If you told me that an anime about a guy getting his junk stolen would make me tear up, I wouldn’t have believed you
Even tho they censored the part where she was in reality dancing on a roof top how they did it was honestly for the better due to how real that situation is for many people sadly. I thing they did this very well, while yes it is a little different from the manga I think they did it well with letting the animation tell the story rather than a explanation that other series do when exploring the antagonists backstories. It made me feel like I was watching Up all over again with how the music and animation told it’s beautiful yet tragic story :(

She doesn't die there. She dances off the roof of a building and dies.
The episode was absolutely stunning.
Is it explained how Aira saw her on the street if she was already dead??
@@ezilexozwa9536it’s widely believed that children are able to see things adults can’t, hence why children have imaginary friends. Aira was probably able to see acro silky because she was simply a child.

Amazing osts in this ep
How you explain things is amazing!
I've seen multiple reactions of this episode and it always ends with everyone in tears.
The mom dancing on the water/rooftop was anime only but it's so telling because its like the was her swan song and she literally leaps of the roof and slowly falls at the end...fades to black then *CRUNCH*.
This is masterclass artistry and storytelling, then virtually no words spoken for a good few minutes but so much detail and emotion was conveyed.
Dandadan excells at show don't tell, using environmental storytelling as well as character acting/expression to convey a beautifully awful image.
this is why the manga folk love this series. Not only because it's absurd with over the top action, but because when they want to punch your feelings they did full power. And this anime adaptation is sooo good, that sequence of first person pov was godly
dont ever feel bad for crying Lupa! you the man.
Saddest episode and the best one so far. Animation was beautiful.
this episode left me with a full day of post anime depression
Has anyone else put together that the faces they make in the intro align with what happens in the episode? Like, the third face is Granny, who first appears in episode 3, Aira is face 5 and she appears in episode 5, and for episode 7 it's Momo looking downcast.
I think it's a great touch.
It made me cry. I was so surprised with this show. It’s funny, crazy, silly and then has these heart wrenching moments. The scene with the attack on the mother was brutal.
Someone noticed that the memory segment lasted for 7 minutes just like how human brain remains active for 7 minutes after death
that emotional whiplash of turbo granny coming in with the hair dryer is top tier
Her backstory was super tragic. A lot of Japanese ghost stories and yokai's start with people being betrayed or killed in disturbing ways.
This one sure hits hard when you transit from searching "balls" funny other episode.
Didn't expect this show to have this level of depth. And, must say, cheers for animators and people in charge of ost, because the sequences with the daughter and the music really made me tearing.
It's strange how some animes, or episodes can be unexpectedly great sometimes. I was kind of hesitating watching first episode. Would have been a huge loss if i rejected without further watch.
Thanks for your reactions guys.
This episode was so perfectly adapted man. I'm so unbelievably excited for some stuff down the line.
I can't believe I watched this episode on New Year's Eve. I wanted some comedy and encountered this. I never cried so hard for a while because of my Mother's passing from Cancer and this episode made me appreicate my Mom for her hard work and love and happiness. I'm happy that I mentioned to my Mom that you are the greatest and I appreicate everything before she passed the next morning. If anyone reading this please show love to your parents before its too late
So idk how many guys noticed it but in the anime from the the entire flashback of Silky was around 7 minutes from the 10:22 mark in the episode which is almost the exact time a brain stays alive after the heart stops to function...
The musical score is by the goat Kensuke Ushio who also worked on a Silent Voice, Devilman Crybaby and also Chainswaw Man, this music was the thing that made the entire sequence along with the pristine camerawork so much more impactful
I've seen this comment already doing the rounds under few other reactions and I'll take my chance to say: I think your guys are reaching here.
Not every random detail has to be tied to some GENIUS-TIER DEEPER MEANING.

i think its interesting turbo grannys actitude,i think more than actually hating on acrosilky is that turbo granny is so acusstoemd to tragedy that she consoles herself saying, well there is nothing to do for th death,so i wont give the death any of my grief, especially since ehr spirit was one that protected vistimcs, girl victims of all types of violence,so acrosilky backstory(whic i dont know if she got to see)is just the same story turbo granny has always saw but rarely had the timing to do anything about,so she is just ressignated
You know life is good when we're getting reactions for the best Dandadan episode yet, the climactic episode of Arcane act 1, AND the second arc of Arcane is coming out, all within the span of one day.
I love the fact that anime fans enjoy a lot more other media more often than not.
There are probably way more anime fans who watch Arcane than the other way round.
This also extends to novels, comics etc.
I wanted to watch the ep before seeing your reaction: I cried. I watched your reaction of the ep: I cried. Man, dandadan is so well driven in terms of storytelling and showcasing the dark realities of ordinary people that not many are aware of. Even the direction of the shots were beautifully made. It's amazing how in a short amount of time, a whole world of someone's life was portrayed in the best way possible. Can't wait for more episodes gg
Now you guys are ready for the Dandadan experience
The journey to find Okarun's balls is going to be peak
dandadan has 3 unique things as a show, its weird, its cool, and has eye brawling tear dropping heart breaking backstory of probably most of the characters
11:42 Notice how the background music also gets distorts away as she gets distorted too
12:32 Lmfao I see you, editor. I was wondering if anyone else was immediately reminded of that ED whiplash. Thanks for the laugh after this episode
the Meruem-ass cut-off at the end LMAOOO
I have not read the manga and I watched this show because of the opening. I fell in love from the first episode for the comedy. I fell more in love in the past few episodes because of the relationship Okarun and Momo have. Now I experienced this episode and I am even more in love with the show.
And just like that, Aira is no longer hated. This episode was done beautifully
Well.
Give her a bit longer.
She has a step or two left to take before season’s end.
@@alecLogan Yeah I forgot she was still acting a lil stupid lmao. But since I've seen characters like her already, I know she's going to be redeemed. Plus dandadan fans kept saying that we'll love her later and I wish they didn't cuz it would've been nice to remain unknown about it so I really couldn't hate her.
I never hated her to begin with 🙏i love asshole characters
I wish she was unredeemable. But at the same time she didn't do anything wrong she just had way too much of a high ego
I hope you guys gave Sheera a hug after this ep. As a mom this ep broke the fck out of me. I cried so much I think I dehydrated myself cause I had a slight headache afterwards, lol.
