"You can only work as hard as you recover. " Love that! Though the tips themselves were nothing new, you added specific details on how they actually affect the body, which was fascinating. Thanks!
Recovery is even more important over 40. A lifestyle of fitness requires just as much wisdom and strategy as it does grit and perseverance. Thanks for the video!
I have been Running now 3- 5 miles ! you inspired me i was taking care of my Mother in Law who had LATE STAGE ALZHEIMER'S, Thank u Coach Morgan For inspiring me as well as all your TIPS and TRICKS...>FOREVER a runner . Forever Learning .
I appreciate these tips. As somebody who is getting into running and wanting to be able to push harder, the amount of stiffness I feel after a run is quite a daunting aspect of increasing the amount of running I do. So hopefully with this and some hard work I can change that.
What you describe at 2:00 is called leg drains, one of my favorite to speed up recovery. You need to reach up and massage down your legs for the best effect. L-Glutamine also works wonders- take in the evening.
Considering Covid, and the recent delayed military fitness testing, it would be cool to see a 1.5 mile running program for people who haven’t run in a while.
Great idea. Going through the same here in my country. Though we still had a fitness test (includes a 2 mile run) about a month ago in sort of a controlled environment. After all military is military. Lol
Well I bodybuild and I also had to run 1.5 miles for the Portuguese Military Academy. I personally continued lifting/hypertrophy training 3-4 days per week and then ran 4 days per week. I did 2 recovery runs 2-4 miles of slow jogging and 1 interval run and 1 actual 1.5mile giving it my all. I also only trained legs with weights once a week and I made sure I´d only go as hard as to recover in 2-3 days
I've always used compression cold therapy sleeves on my legs before bedtime and it works really good! I feel less sore the following day and recover much faster. Now I'm looking into recovery boots.
I really do need to focus more on recovery. I definitely am not putting any kind of work in that department. This video has certainly helped me to reflect on the same. Great job!
Morgan great recovery tips foam roll is the key welcoming, within definitely foam roll then stretch after run tempo wrkt tonight ty! high fives Sasu and Morgan
honestly I naturally sleep a lot when I am running. Without that sleep I still feel soreness in my calves - but after 9-10 hours of sleep I feel much better and 90% recovered from previous run
Thank you! I’ve just started running - and wow, everything hurts 🤧😂 I love using a foam roller 🤤 definitely has helped with alleviating sore calves! Now to tackle the sore hammies!
Since I am so musclebound, especially in my upper hamstrings, I do need this advice. Yes, I've recently not spent enough time to stretch my tired muscles right after an hour of running, and my legs keep screaming. 😭😭 Thank you, coach Morgan.
Could be a lot of things, watch this first, if that doesn't help contact us in our app and we'll help you get to the bottom of it. At the very least, another runner who has been there can help. th-cam.com/video/ZaGgtiTo3m0/w-d-xo.html
Maybe your running shoes (for the type of running / training) aren't proper match. Also your style of running (i.e. foot striking style) may play a role in there. May I ask what shoes you are currently wearing for your runs? General advice I can give on my end would be, trying running shoes with more cushion in order to alleviate your ankle pain. There are many running shoes with great cushions out there nowadays, but I recommend Hoka One One shoes as they are mostly known for their great maximalist style cushioning (Bondi series are the best known for cushioning). I am sure other people can chime in and give you better advice as well, good luck.
I just started running and I want to try hard but I'm getting a ton of pain in my foot, the one nice thing about competitive swimming is that it is virtually no impact.
I’m almost a teen but I’m not. I hike 8 miles and I’ve ran 5 miles with my dad in the military and I wanna be in the army and this helps me so much thank you. I’m running 5 more miles in like 30 degrees so yea lol.
Doesn’t static stretching risk over stretching your muscles in turn having a worse affect?? Because of this, isn’t active isolated stretching a better alternative??
Ice bath question: I cheat. I get in the tub, add the water, add the ice. Is this still effective? Or do I need the shock value of dropping into freezing H2O?
What I can say: cold showers work miracles (for me at least). The difference in the amount of soreness and stiffness I get after any workout, running, biking etc. when doing a cold shower or not doing it really is crazy. Even if I just go cold in the end for like 2-3 minutes.
I wish I could sleep more but I just can't. If I go to sleep earlier, I'm just rolling around in bed. If I try to wake up later, my back will just be killing me the next day. I have to be really tired to be able to sleep more than 7 hours. Any suggestions?
Acupressure mats. :) Lay down on one for 10-15 minutes before you want to sleep. It’ll hurt at first, but as you relax, you’ll begin to feel really the blood circulating to your back and drowsy. It also helps with back pain as well because it brings greater circulation to the areas you stimulate with the mat. I really love my mat, it’s actually kind of weird how it improves my sleep so much.
Finally got to an aerobic level where I can do 3k on demand. Unfortunately for me my muscles and body are demanding extra days rest. I warm up and warm down, as well as do physio exercises for hurting areas my hip just needs rest. So got to limit to walking and the exercises no running. Got to take recovery seriously. So no more running until muscles and joints getting repaired. Already pushed them previous 14/16 days with 75% of the running days being double runs. So due another few days rest for my suffering legs.
Is water cold enough from the tap for ice baths? My water can get down to 40 degrees, wondering if that is enough to get any benefits. I dont like the idea of having to buy a bag of ice just to do this, guess I could use ice packs. How about just a cold shower? I typically take a cold shower in the morning then warmer before stretching and going out for a run.
Brighton And Bella I was joking but look back just two ore or one videos Running experience they had a video on how good it would be for you to run 30 days straight
Hi community. Just came across this after my 2nd run & in consecutive weeks for 1st time in t months in thd uk as been hard to run with guide runners with what's going on around. How do I adjust to incorporating recovery when I’m increasing training load for ultra marathons. I’m doing 70k a week and have not been able to find rest.
The sleep thing while I know is important just isn't possible for everyone. I can't get more than 7 hours a night. To be able to get my training in, I need to head out by 5:30AM. To do that, I need to wake up at 4:30AM so i can properly hydrate, have a coffee and warm up. This means I have to be in bed by 8:30PM if i were to aim for 8 hours. This would have me in bed before my 5 year old lol. For me what is more important is making sure I get a full 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep and that me schedule is consistent including on weekends.
Yea, I'm one of those 'I'll stretch later' people... And yea, I never do. The recommended "Good for CBD" is not available, or even offered, in my area. Ice bath, nope. Shortness of breath to the max, to the point of almost blacking out due to lack of oxygen.
If you've never tried an ice bath: don't worry, once you're numb it feels warm! Until you stick another body part in. Then you remember how cold it is.
I rested for like three decades, so I think I'm good to go.
You should be recovered
😂😂same here.. let´s go
Lol I feel exactly the same
😂
This legit got me laughing out loud
