  • Dr. John Fischer was an expert panelist at the Texas Fibroid Awareness Month event in Houston, Texas, organized by The Barbara Jordan Leadership Institute and sponsored by Fibroid Institute Texas.
Here is what Dr. Fischer said:
The majority of women seek treatment after developing fibroid symptoms, whether it be pain or heavy bleeding or anemia or whatever. But there are those that are just found incidentally. They have an imaging study for some reason for some other condition and they just happen to see the fibroids but they're not having any symptoms. So, it's just everybody's story is a little bit different.
In terms of anemia, I find it interesting a lot of patients don't understand why fibroids lead to anemia. If your body is losing more blood every month than it can produce, you're going to end up being anemic, even if that difference is small.
Just like if you take out more money of your [bank] account then you're putting in every month eventually you're going to end up in a negative balance.
