I knew about the ACT series but had no idea they raced drastically different cars. Interesting stuff.
WAYYY different!
And a lot of those differences are geared toward cost control. The ACT Late Model kind of evolved toward the tail end of the ACT "pro stock" (closer to All Pro or ASA at the time), and kept the santion going when the ACT Pro Stocks went bust in '95.
If I could describe new England ranks definitely ACT is basically the "Xfinity series" and PASS is the cup serious more a less but it's awesome seeing a new England boy to come down
The ACT has had a rich and varied history with drivers like Crouch, Cabana, Urlin, Hanley, Craven, Beaver Dragon et al. Sanair in Quebec was a beautiful track and my home track of Airborne in Plattsburgh, NY put on some great shows. The 1/4 mile of Thunder Road is an absolute beauty and I believe LH at T-Road would be epic! Thank you for showing some Southern hospitality to a Northerner.
Also, 2 of the finest announcers of our generation, Ken Squier and Dave Moody both have Vermont roots!
Man I’d love to come see what the northern boys are all about!

As someone who grew up around open wheel racing like midgets and sprint cars, I love these videos. I have such a basic knowledge of stock car racing when it comes to any details.
Man, didn't even think about the advantage of having a little extra space and a set of reliable scales. Gonna make a lot of relationships that should definitely help out. Good sht.

Ah, the good old days. I have helped out people on the ACT cars and tour. Moved south in 2005. I remember watching Marcel in the lower classes before making his way to LMs. Thanks to Landon for your hospitality! Racers are racers no matter where you load the car every week. Thunder Road, Quarry hill in Barre has had a few heavy hitters race there. I’m sure they would love to add your name to the list.

It's real neat seeing the breakdown of this car; my husband and I watch Gravel race up here at Thunder Road, in Barre, VT, all the time during the summer. If you're ever in the area, definitely come check the track out! I believe it's one of the fastest short tracks in New England, and the sportsmanship between the drivers in all the classes is outstanding.
ACT is a fun tour in New England. Now to get Landon to race the Oxford 250 here in Maine.

The Pro Late model chassis's that's common up here in Canada have only a few differences from ACT cars. Ours are all "straight rail" cars, Side or turn down exhaust, 3 peice sway bars and 10" slicks. 2800lbs, 58% left side weight, 50% rear, no ride height rule. Unfortunately we must run a fast burn 604 or a D347SR Ford stroker.cheers🇨🇦🏁

Landon, I just watched Monday Mock Run for the first time. That was really up close and personal. Please consider doing another one in the not too distant future. You sipping on the cold one made it perfect.
You mention early in the video that the ACT runs in VT, NH and ME, but lest you forget, the C in ACT stands for Canadian! We have our own ACT Quebec series which runs under the same rules but in a separate championship, but I believe the main ACT series is scheduled to cross the border twice this year. :)
I knew it has ran in Canada typically but they were saying in the last few years it hasn’t! I’m assuming because of covid
@@LandonHuffmanRacing They ran one race each at Chaudiere and Montmagny last year but US car counts were very low because of vaccine mandates at the Canadian border. Hopefully things go back to normal this year though!
Speaking of which, I really wish you'd make an appearance at Chaudiere some day. If you aren't familiar with the track, it's a super highly banked ¼ mile oval, and I think you'd get a kick out of it. It's quite a long way from Hickory though haha

I definitely have been persuaded to like the non underslung cars. Especially with all the issues I have experienced with the underslung cars on dirt, which the majority of the issues is the left rear axle tube bottoming out on the left rear underslung tube. Which causes the car to get upset under load, since the axle tube gets stopped from fully traveling under acceleration.
Soooo we would have to put an arching bend in the underslung rail on the left side of the car.
Now it down allow for as many options for bolting on weight in a given area of the car. Yet it is much easier to work with without the underslung rails no doubt.
I am team overslung always lol

my home track seekonk speedway uses act rules for their late models, and as a matter of fact were having a 123 lap late model race this Saturday. always interesting to see one of the lower series putting on a longer race than our pro stocks, known as super late models outside of New England and Canada lol

It would be nice to get a universal car, across the board. Do a touring late model series like the dirt late models do. I know it's costly, especially tires and whatever. Just something that sounds cool to me.
Will never happen on asphalt side. Racing is way to different in different areas!

I've been watching your videos since last summer, but this one is extra cool to me because I've been watching the Gravel family race at Thunder Road since I was a kid! I grew up watching Marcel's dad & I've been watching "Micro Marcel" since he started racing.
I would LOVE to see you compete at Thunder Road. You should try the Milk Bowl or the race before NASCAR weekend in NH when SRX is there.
Fair warning though, guys like Brad Keslowski, Alex Labbe, Kyle Busch & Clint Bowyer all struggled there. (Kyle was actually pretty good until a local guy stuffed him in the wall.)
I have to correct myself. SRX is there the week AFTER NASCAR. But there are often NASCAR drivers who compete at the Governor's Cup race the Thursday before the NASCAR race in New Hampshire.
Id love to come up and give it a shot!!

Cool to see all the differences between these different late model cars, I used to think all these lmsc, super lm, pro lm etc were a lot more similar than they are. Also cool to find your youtube channel, I'm pretty sure I raced with you on iracing in street stock and late model back in the day. Also i met your dad at hickory 10 years ago through rev racing he was great, i spun out their late model, i believe following your dad in his honda accord no joke! 😂😂 my race car driver dreams weren't meant to be!

Up here in Ontario, north of the border, our pro late models run the 604 and as far as suspension goes we have bump stops which took me a while to almost figure it out. You guys have alot more faith in the MSD ignition box than we did, on our Lucas Sportsman and Pro Late model we ran a redundant MSD box and coil. In the Sportsman class we could run a built motor instead of the 604 but had limitations with the carb. We ran a Leitch engine for a season and that thing would rev 8000 all day long

What's the difference in lap times from Pro late model and late model stock at Hickory? How much if a purce difference is there?
Not only does the ACT tour run northern NE and Canada but the also run Southern New England tracks like Thompson, Waterford, Seekonk. The ACT type Late Model is also the weekly Late Model class at most New England tracks.

Big fan of running 8 Inch wide tires on Late models and Dirt Cars. Seems to be more driver and setup than big power.

I would say the 8 inch tire makes the car feel like it has WAY more horsepower

Another difference, and a big one is the bodies.. LMSC cars have a higher roof height, less down force body. the ACT cars run a super latemodel, ABC body.

With the late models like act, they have at least 20. My home track usually has 23-25 a week.
Usually when there are less places to race it helps car count!
I think they have 24 down here for the tour!
@@LandonHuffmanRacing I think there is two tracks in Maine that run a late model style car my track Wiscasset Speedway and speedway 95. And covered in snow ain't the words it haha

Depends, but often times the pro cars run 603 and 604 crate motors. And this is an option that we use in the limited card yes!
