Incredible video!!! Just keep resurrecting those old engines!! Yeah, the new engines are fine, but there is nothing like the old, classic engines, and the problem with the new ones is, everybody has one, they are nothing special. It's great to take a rusty, engine, and bring it back to life!!!!. Great job, and keep doing what you guys do!!!!!!!
Great job. Both of you. This is a very cool car. I have a 1964 Fairlane with a 260 in similar condition. Watching you reminds of the preliminary checks I have to do before start up.Yall picked a good one.
We had an old school diesel mechanics instructor next door to my construction class I took in high school. I wish i had took his class instead, but he would take a carpenters square and a hand grinder, to resurface heads. What he could do was amazing to me, but he came from back when you had to make do with what you had or do without.

Hello Richard & Cristina. We used to take a piece of small diameter wire and push out the oil residue from inside of the push rod and flush it out with a spray can of whatever was handy that would dissolve oil. The same fix was also true with the oil canister housing where they would stop up with crud. The stainless steel element from a mobile two way radio antenna worked really well being that the stainless steel was pretty rigid yet smaller in diameter at the top of the element which is what you really need for pushing oil residue. If the ball is still at the tip of the antenna, Then take a cutoff tool and cut off the ball tip. The stainless steel is oftentimes harder than a pair of cutters and will damage the jaws of the tool. Your engine is starting to sound really good and I think you may have something that you can work with now. It’s too cold here in Kentucky to work on anything outside right now unless you were maybe born in Alaska maybe.
Back in '83 I revived a 327 in a '63 Chevy wagon that had sat for seven years. Drove the car for six months. I put non-fouler plugs in it as the engine was a regular mosquito fogger.
When you two first started it didn't seem that Torino stood a chance of ever running again, but you persevered and succeeded. Congratulations; you did a great job.
Love the styling .. My grandfather & all of his children worked at Fords assembly plant.. My grandpa worked at the River Rouge plant , first in engine bulding , then assembly .. My aunts & uncles worked at different plants around Detroit..
I would have on my to do list in the spring is to have a wood burning stove installed in one of the rooms of the house. They have them that used chopped wood and ones that use the wood pellets. Good insurance when the power goes out or when the furnace goes on the fritz. Also they can add a nice ambiance to the room.
Save that motor! Show Christina how to completely rebuild an engine! It would be a fun project for the both of you to experience! It's neat that she has an interest in what you do! You will learn a lot ---together!

Been watching you guys for a long time and Richard he's just good on anything he works on but after watching this video I have decided that Richard has a sweet spot for Fords
Sorry to hear of your heat being out in your home. But, Christina. Richard is taking pain staking time on your car engine. Those Ford heads are really heavy. Impressive. Was surprised to hear that starter turn it over after sitting so long. And Bingo it fired and ran.I can understand the excitement. Looking foward to the restoration of your Torino. Thank you for sharing 💯💕👊👍
Hi Richard and Christine I really enjoyed this one. I was a little nervous when you found that broken valve and some of those cylinders were a little rusty but when you got it running it really sounded great good ole 351. So you do get a little snow haha but it probably goes fast. Around here it might be on the ground for months sopost to be 10 below zero air temp. here tonight. What an awesome episode. I've been waiting on this update and you guys have done great. I'm so excited for future updates. Congratulations on getting it running. Bravo! 🎉❤
It isn't blowing any oil smoke, but time will tell if the problem was only the valve seals. I'll be rechecking the compression soon and will include it in the next video.
What a GREAT video! I actually gave a WOOHOO at the same time as Richard when that engine fired up! This is SUCH a cool car! You are both doing incredible work on saving it! GREAT JOB!

Another great job of diagnosing the problem that was keeping that 351C from starting. I had a similar problem with a 1969 Pontiac GTO that was also 180 degrees out of time. In my case the rotor in the distributor had been installed incorrectly. On those point-driven GM V8 distributors with the window for adjusting dwell, the rotors have a square on one underside of the rotor, and a circle on the other. Somehow the previous owner had gotten it on the distributor backwards. Since it and the points looked brand new, I didn't pull the rotor to check it. The engine would backfire every time I cranked it, and one backfire blew out one of the mufflers. I about lost my mind before discovering what had happened. After getting the rotor on correctly, the 400 V8 fired right up and idled like a sewing machine. We look forward to each episode, and the channel just keeps getting better. Best wishes to you both!
Thats a "Halo vinyl roof" optioned Torino and if that's a factory 351C car then it's quite rare.I spotted the 1970 style air cleaner and S tube setup on it but it looks original to the car so that's weird.Air cleaners are often swapped out but no one ever changes or keeps that heat riser.Plus it has the 1971 valve covers (1970 has the oil drippers inside)so there's some oddities about the car. You made me nervous leaving that fan shroud on during all that work lol...those things are fragile and are always broke.I would restore it as it's nicely optioned with ps,pdb, and a/c...Its a very nice find!
I was nervous about breaking the shroud too, as well as the grill. I tried to do almost all the work from the sides of the car, and luckily nothing broke! Interesting info about the S tube for the air cleaner. I thought 71 had them as well. Thanks for the info!
@whattherust 1971s had a paper tube that went down to a steel heat shield on the manifold...I'm thinking someone did change that air cleaner setup on it now probably because the paper tube's didn't last long..its just odd to me because no one ever worried about those and many of them got tossed pretty quick. It still has the blue charcoal canister on the inner passenger fender and the 71 style air cleaner had a 1 inch tube fitting protruding from the pass side of it that a flexible aluminum tube connected to it and ran to a fitting on that charcoal canister.
