I agree that side control with heavy hip-to-hip and elbow-to hip top pressure is more stable than chest-to-chest. Some people don't like it because they were never taught to win the battle of the legs when the bottom guy tries to recover half guard. Once you learn that it is a better side control. It also leaves your hands free unlike the chest to chest side control.

I kept addressing reverse de la riva with my hand to get tighter but it's hard without the collar grip. I also was trying to get chest to chest,very hard. I m going to to try this position.
