I got 4 extractions, 2 on the bottom and 2 at the top. I had a overbite before but now it’s much better because I got braces 😁 Update: 1 year later and the holes are almost fully closed ^^ UPDATE: Its been 2 years since I got my braces and a few weeks ago I got my upper braces removed and I’m sooo happy about the results, I feel like I can smile freely now. My bottom teeth are not completely straight yet but I’ll get rid of the bottom braces soon. After they took the braces off I got a wire behind my teeth so that they stay in place! C:
Me too. 6 months in braces and in february (month after i got braces) they pulled four premolars but last summer in august i got 4 impacted wisdom teeth cut out
I recommend everyone on this channel ( including Dr. Greg ) and the ones who watched this video to go and type "Orthotropics" in youtube search and start watching Dr. Mike and John Mew , you will find the answer for the famous question "Why my teeth are crooked ?" and also you will find the simple risk free solution
Thanks for this video, very informative. I'm having 2 premolars extracted coming thursday and the monday after I will be getting my braces 🙈 I'm 29 and very nervous of looking even younger than I do now, but it's something I've wanted to do for almost 15 years!
I had extractions done(4 impacted wisdoms and 4 premolars) due to severe over-crowding. I was incredibly nervous but my orthodontist explained it just as you did. I just did not have the jaw space because of how large my teeth were and I am in my mid 30s so an expander wasn't an option either. I get debonded in a month and I love my smile so much. My profile and jaw shaped changed a little(for the better!) and my arch widened so much. I used to bite my tongue dozens of times each day while eating and talking and I haven't in years since getting braces. Totally worth it!
not about teeth. it's about face. It's not needed, as you can expand. Expanding instead of extracting stops facial lengthening (eye to mouth) growth and instead encourages horizontal (ear to mouth) growth x
Me, a year into my treatment with no way of getting my 4 premolars back: watches this at 1AM on a school night Edit: I got my braces removed Sep 14, 2020. I’m very happy with my treatment if anyone has any questions I’ll do my best to continue answering them.
AJdG so far everything is okay and no bad effects. I don’t see any differences facial wise and there’s no negative effect on my tongue space. The gaps are all closed except one which is really close to being closed. Overall I think the extractions were good for my case of fixing an overbite because there wasn’t enough room. My orthodontist also said that the extractions would help make my upper lip protrude less but I have yet to see a difference in that regard.
@@pinksquid4157 How much time did it take for your teeth to fill the gap? Even if not completely just enough that people can't notice a hole in your mouth? I'm getting this done and I'm super nervous
Camila Gonzalez not too long. I’d say about 4-5 months. I was worried about it too but I found that it wasn’t super noticeable anyway when I talked like no one ever said anything or noticed unless I pointed it out. Given where the premolars are located I wouldn’t worry about it. I tested it out in the mirror a few times and practiced talking just to see and the gaps weren’t noticeable.
My orthodontist does everything he can to avoid extractions for braces. I luckily had a palette expander at age 8, so I got to avoid extractions when I got braces at 14.
I was in pain for 14 years because an othodontist recommended to pull 4 of my perfectly healthy adult teeth. I had straight teeth my issue was a slight crossbite on my top arch. After he pulled my teeth he left me edge to edge and I couldn't close my mouth and I had muscle spasms, shooting nerve pain and my tongue didn't fit in my mouth so I would have to put my tongue to the side and it would hang out of my mouth. It misaligned my joints in my jaw and I lost some of my hearing. I was is excruciating pain for so many years and he didn't even fix my crossbite which was the reason for seeking treatment to begin with. I was 24 when I got the braces and in 2 years I looked years older than my age (26). I tried to sue the othodontist but it was impossible to get another orthodontist in my state to testify against him. I went through hell for years! I was a prisoner in my own mouth. I tell everyone if an othodontist is telling you to pull teeth RUN and get a second and third opinion and go to a surgeon which is one thing the othodontist discouraged me from doing. We have 32 adult teeth in our mouth for a reason! Not only does our teeth live in our mouth but also our tongue and the tongue is a muscle and is stronger and needs comfortable space. The tongue has nerves and blood vessels and can affect your whole body. Go to an othodontist that uses DAMON braces or self ligation braces that don't believe in pulling teeth. This experience affected the quality of my life in my 20s and into my 30s until a very nice office manager at a new othodontist office who was seeing my 6 year old approached me and asked if I had ever had braces and I told her my horror story. They wanted to help me get out of pain and I've gotten my life back and been in Damon braces for 8 months. There's a saying that you don't have to pay to smile but it my case I did. I paid painfully.
hey Greg! today , I went to my orthodontist for my monthly dentist appointment and today I got my bottom braces! because I have a pretty strong overbite, I wasn't able to close my mouth without the top two front teeth colliding with the bottom two teeth's brackets , so in order to solve this , my Orthordontist put in this filling of my back teeth he told me was a "pillow" for my teeth which stops the front two teeth from colliding with the bottom, he also says it's a "temporary" fix , I don't know what he used but he used a syringe to fill in the back of my teeth and cured it with a light. It's white too. Just getting my bottom braces hurt a lot but hurts even more because I can't close my jaw properly like I did comfortably before because of this "cushion" . Any tips on how to reduce this massive pain? Every time I open my jaw after biting down or relaxing my jaw hurts and aches, :( it'd be amazing if you could explain what it is in my mouth and how to reduce pain! Thanks !
I had 4 extractions done almost 1 year ago shortly after my braces. Best decision ever! My profile is alot better and my teeth have aligned so fast, I'm almost done with my treatment! :) Also, can you please do a video on tongue posture/mewing? :)
Same as me. Extraction really worked for me thank God. I had an overbite and overcrowding. My teeth moved so fast. I finished treatment in like 9 months. If my treatment was without extraction, the time would of been at least 4 years. My face profile is also so much better.
I did got two premolars removed and watched this video before I did and listened to the common orthodontic opinion it can't do damage and it's the biggest mistake of my life. My smile is narrower (doesn't fill to the corners of my mouth anymore) and I have now severe TMJ pain and breathing issues that started as the gaps began to close and the symptoms progressively got worse until the gaps fully closed. I also have no room for my tongue in my mouth anymore. I am now two weeks post braces.
I've been seeing a lot of videos on mewing, could you give your take on the practice of mewing and its effect on teeth alignment, expanding your jaw and so on????
I got braces last month and yesterday my orthodontist said about extraction on my upper teeth.Thank you for creating this video, it is the answer about my question.
Hey Dr. Greg!! I’ve been watching your vids through my braces journey that started 6 months ago! I’m older, and I feel that the extractions I’ve had are changing my face shape! Kind of seems like I’m losing my chin, in a sense. I did have an extreme overjet on top and crowding on the bottom. I got 4 extractions and all my wisdom teeth! For the most part I’m satisfied but I’m afraid of the face change! Will everything come together once all the spaces from the extractions are closed? Also, why not use power chains to close the spaces? Thanks for all the great videos! I’ll continue watching! 👍🏽
tough cookie Honestly, since this video my face has taken on its original shape now that my space has closed! I was worried but it’s almost time to have my braces taken off and I’m super happy with the results
Determining When to Extract Premolars in Class 2 Camouflage Treatment. __________________________________ In cases with an end-on-class II molar relationship, extraction of the maxillary first premolar and the mandibular second premolar may be selected as treatment options (# 14, 24, 35, 45 extraction) to improve the molar relationship. Before the orthodontic treatment begins, premolars are extracted first and the orthodontic treatment may be started. However, in some cases, timing of extracting the maxillary and mandibular premolars may be different for specific purposes. 1) Extracting maxillary first premolar first if there is a high risk of Temporomandibular Joint Disorder If the patient's lower jaw is unstable and the CO-CR discrepancy is large so Idiopathic condylar resorption might occur during orthodontic treatment, the mandibular position may shift backward during orthodontic treatment. If this problem occurs after the mandibular second premolars are already extracted, it can be very difficult to close the mandibular extraction space while maintaining normal overjet. Therefore, if there is a concern about the problem of mandibular position change, postpone the timing of extraction of the mandibular second premolar. If the mandibular retreat problem occurs, switch the treatment plan to not to extract the mandibular second premolar and cases can be finished with Class II molar relationship. However, when using this strategy, it is necessary to reinforce the anchor so that the maxillary posterior teeth is not moved forward to the extraction space during the leveling phase. 2) Extracting mandibular second premolar first for early improvement of the posterior relationship If the extraction is done in advance during the leveling phase, the extraction space will naturally decrease. This is because the posterior movement of the anterior teeth and the anterior movement of the posterior teeth to the extraction space occurred. If this is used in purpose to move the lower posterior teeth forward during leveling after extracting mandibular second premolars, the molar relationship can be improved early and the subsequent treatment can be simplified. When do you extract premolars and in what order and in what logical considerations in Class II cases? ________________________________________________
I had 4 extracted 2 years ago: a misplaced tooth (crowding) was moved into 1 of the spaces, 1 space has closed, 1is almost closed and 1 is still closing.
I had my 4 impacted wisdom teeth extracted as well as 4 bicuspids all at once. All of my canine teeth were blocked out of my arch and I have a really small jaw. I’m about 8 months into my orthodontic treatment and things are looking really good!
Did you get put to sleep when you got your extractions done? I have 4 impacted wisdom teeth and I need 4 more that needs to be extracted, I really don’t want to be put to sleep. Too scared! 🥺🥺
Thank you once again for really good content Dr Greg. This channel is my lifeline for all my treatment concerns.. I have an impacted third molar in my lower jaw that was supposed to be extracted 2 years ago.. I skipped my appointment and didn't book another 🤦♀️ and now I have braces. Can the impacted tooth affect the outcome of my orthodontic treatment? Also, is it true that the opposing teeth 'over grow' after extraction of their chewing buddies? 🙂
@@adora3247 I heard not to remove extract teeth during braces. They want to extract my wisdom teeth but I don't want my face to look sunken in, but if I don't my teeth have a chance of going back cricket. So im wondering if there able to put braces on my wisdom teeth. They don't both me or anything. Basically im trying to find another way to get straight teeth and healthy bite with no extractions.
Hi, Dr. Greg! Could you make a video on mouth breathing and repercussions that it create on the arches, and what to do about it / treatments. Your channel has been a great help eversince the day I got my braces 'cause my ortho doesn't elaborate too much on my condition. Looking forward for more videos 😊 Thank you so much!!!! 😁😁
Brix Tobias he might not make a video on that because he wants to extract teeth, which is silly. “Teeth are too big” bruh they are meant to be that big cause it’s your teeth, when you have big teeth, when you smile, your smile is more protruded.
Hi Dr Gregory, I find your videos very helpful. Thank you for posting. I have had four teeth extracted including two premolars and two impacted canines in my upper arch for which i had to be put under general anesthetic. I have had my braces on for 10 months now and i am in the process of having my midline corrected! Looking forward to getting my braces of. Please can you do a video around the different bite types and the relationship with the upper and lower jaw. Thank.you
Got my braces May 30th!!! But.... I have to have a canine extraction surgery and have said baby tooth removed... Words of advice/wisdom for surgery days!?!? As always, thank you for your videos!! They have truly helped me
Dung Nguyen I had to get my lower teeth extracted because of over crowding, and was given the option to keep my upper teeth or extract them also. My dentist said it would make the process a bit more difficult if i kept my top teeth but it wasn’t out of the question. I ended up extracting them anyway. Every dentist/ortho do things differently though so i’d just ask :)
One of my lower molars was missing so I got the other side extracted as well, along with the two corresponding top ones. My orthodontist told me it would be best to extract the top because of the teeth alignment and fit when the jaw closes.
Tooth extraction should be stopped! It does more harm than good and over time the face sinks in. It affects facial appearance and beauty negatively. Our genetic blueprint is perfect, the reason we don't have enough space in our jaws is due to environmental factors growing up such as: 1. Mouth breathing and improper tongue posture which leads to a narrow upper jaw, crowding and lack of forward growth(and a host of other issues) 2. Our modern diets. We are not chewing on tough foods as much as our ancestors did. 3. Bad head and neck posture (forward head posture) Never extract teeth. Instead focus on expanding your maxilla(upper jaw) which will allow more room for your teeth, which will also help your lower jaw move forward for a more optimal bite. Find an orhtodontist that shares this pholosphy. DO NOT EXTRACT healthy teeth. You will regret it down the line. Thumbs up so everyone can see.
1) is there any negative or side effect after extracting teeth in the LONG run?? because I have been hearing about older adults around me saying that it has caused different other problems like pain or loosening of teeth because of extracting their teeth. Right now, I am still thinking if I should extract teeth or have a TADs. Because my first choice is extracting teeth but just afraid that there will be a long term negative side effect because of the extraction. 2) If I were to extract, after extraction and braces period, will there be any case that the teeth/gum become loosened ( if that makes sense ) and lose its shape?? Hope you give me some good advice because I really don't know what to do. Thank you :)
Got all 4 wisdoms and 2 extra teeth extracted for my braces 😭 yup 6 teeth in total all at once, the most painful and worst week of my life. But just got my wires on for my braces and I believe getting spacers in 6-7 weeks!!
Jennifer Tran I get 6 extractions this week too. Why was that week so bad other than soreness? Is 1 weekend healing enough to live relatively normal again?
I have a question. I was 21 when I had my first consultation for braces and the ortho said he wanted to take out four teeth - the premolars. I assume that was to create space because I have crowding on both top and bottom, with it being worse on the bottom. After the consult, I realised I couldn't afford the price he was charging, so didn't proceed. Now I'm 25 and have gone to a different practice for a consultation because I'm not happy with the cosmetic side of things with my teeth. Between the two visits my wisdom teeth have started to come in, with the bottom two impacted, top left erupted perfectly and upper right coming in now. The second practice want to remove all four wisdom teeth, which I expected and have surgery booked for, but when I told them the other ortho wanted to take out four premolars, they said they wouldn't need to do any other extractions at this stage to straighten my teeth. If they do, it would be tooth 21. Practice 1 wouldn't give me an estimate of how long I'd need braces for, while the other said nine months. My question is, should I be concerned that these two practices have such different plans for my teeth?
You should make a video about what to do with ankylosis/ankylosed teeth that are in the front of the mouth and what options should be if you can’t get implants
I have to get 8 teeth removed. I have 2 molars on the top and 2 molars on the bottom that need to be removed to fix my over bite and asymmetry on my jaw. Also, I have to get my wisdom teeth removed since the gum sits on top of some of the partly erupted teeth. It tends to make my gum swollen and food particles would get stuck and hard to remove causing the wisdom teeth to get infected. I wanted to get all 8 teeth removed since I have to get 4 teeth removed for my braces. I wanted to get it out the way to avoid having to get them removed once I have the braces on. But my orthodontist doesn’t suggest getting all 8 removed at once. I just feel like by the time I’m done with these braces ppl would probably not recognize me lol. I was really worried about getting 8 teeth removed since doctors frown upon that but it’s necessary. I’ll have to leave my braces on for 2 years. I’m just glad that I’m getting braces during my adult years and not when I was younger. Kids at my school were so mean 😫😫. Anyway wish me luck.
please can you make a video regarding jaw surgery. My upper jaw is small and i would love to know about the screws and the procedures during the jaw surgery. I'm getting it in 6 months :)
Dr Greg, may I ask. Is it possible for adult to use the maxillary expend to expend n make room for the teeth to move? It's sad to have 4/6/8 healthy teeth to extracted?
Hi Dr. Greg! I was over hearing my orthodontist telling his assistant about something called an “IPR”? Are you able to elaborate? Which teeth would need IPR? Thanks so much! (:
Hold crap extraction/retraction on an adult?? Make sure they leave you enough tongue space. Little old to be removing facial structure huh? DNA appliance would've done the trick, advanced your palate out and forward, making you look YOUNGER.
Hi Dr. Greg, so It's been about a month and a half that I had my two top premolars extracted, and this month in my ortho appointment they did not place any bands or springs to help close the gaps and I' not sure when or if they will do that. I did notice some gaps forming in-between the top teeth. I was wondering what's an estimated amount of time that it takes gaps to close if they don't use bands or springs to close the gaps of the extraction or just in general. Thanks for the great videos! :)
@@gail831 a lot better! My original gap on my right side where they removed the premolar, is being stubborn so it’s still there but all other gaps are pretty much closed. It’s been a year an a half since I had my extractions, so it has taken a lot more time than I expected it would :/
Thank you for the video I am going to get 4 teeth extracted (my wisdom teeth were extracted about one year ago) for my braces, but the extraction is going to be after I get my braces. Is this actually normal to get the extraction after getting the braces? My other question is: do permanent teeth extractions have any cons?
Hey! I myself am getting my braces soon enough with a high probability of 4 extraction, atleast, and yes my orthodontist also said that it will be done(the extractions) in the course of the treatment, seeing how my teeth actually plays out. So yeah I think its common. As for the pain, your whole mouth will feel weird, bad weird, so you're likely to not notice it. But again each person is different, so consult your specialist, put your doubt and worries on the table only then proceed. Hoped this helped.
I gotten my braces in April and my orthodontist said I need 4 extractions and I still have to take my wisdom teeth out too.. All together I need 8 that needs to be extracted.
@@shanicesm6208 Did extraction made your face look narrower ? I had 3 wisdom tooth on lower jaw extracted now will have to get 2 premolar on upper side and 1or2 premolar on lower side extracted so worried If it'll make my face smaller :(
I had one orthodontist talking about having four permanent teeth removed in the back. I went to another and they said no teeth need to be removed and I got braces with so far all my teeth are now straight.
This is also one of my questions regarding my braces process and now it is already answered. I had 4 teeth remove. 2 teeth both in the upper & lower. Maybe because I have big teeth.
watching this 2 days before i get all my first molars extracted due to decay(from bad habits as a teen) - a little nervous because my orthodontist said its not common but because of my specific case and severe crowding in the front, he said better to extract unhealthy teeth than healthy teeth and thus we still make room for the overcrowding

My orthodontist recommend extraction due to crowding, but I also had a bad molar tooth that needed a root canal. He removed the bad molar and had a surgeon uncover a wisdom tooth so he could put a band on it and use it to replace the bad tooth. Better than keeping a tooth that needed a crown. That wisdom tooth had to be moved pretty far, but it worked.
Thanks for the video! Very informative! Got 2 extractions from both bottom and upper teeth before wearing braces. The gaps have closed now but I noticed I have a gummy smile and getting conscious about it. I read something about TADS. Is it true if I had TADS on I could have avoided a gummy smile? Please advise.
Hi Dr Greg, my teeth are potrusive in both lower and upper jaw. However my Dr said i don't need extractions, although i feel i do. I've noticed she's been doing IPR. My question is, can IPR give out results that are equally as effective as extractions
1st -3rd clinic that I went, dentist said I need four molar teeth extractions. I disagreed. Then I want to 4th clinic where the dentist recommended me a fastbraces ,and he told me That he can proceed treatment without extractions. But I needed tonwear the palatal expander. I did agree with that treatment. Now I have done brace, and I my teeth remain 28 ( 4wisdom teeth already extracted)
hi dr greg! i had a chance of assisting an orthodontist and to prepare myself during that time made me follow you and watched your videos. Eventhough i am not with an orthodontist anymore, i still find myself interested knowing more about ortho 😊 i would also like to ask what might be the reason of bonding only on the U+L 5-5? then buccal tubes on the 6. now i have spaces in all quadrants of my 6&7. Hoping to hear from you soon 😊🙏 Thank you!
I watch this since my dentist told me that he had to extract two teeth at the top and one tooth at the bottom before getting my braces. After I got both my wisdom teeth out, I thought all the extracting adventure is done...but oh boy, I was wrong. I need 3 more extractions. 😂
Why did you need 3 more done? Just curious because I’m getting braces soon and I just got 4 of my wisdom teeth removed. I don’t want anymore removed ahah
He is too busy taking in the cash from his mid evil extraction/retraction orthodontics. See an epigenetic doctor who treats your whole facial structure. Braces and Invisalign can work, as long as teeth are not retracted.
I'm eternally grateful I've never had any extractions. Few ask the obvious question as to 'why are the teeth crowded'. What about growing the jaw through improved oral posture. Problem solved! NM
@tough cookie Hard to say but I would never allow anyone to extract teeth Better to try to align the teeth slowly over time using improved oral posture e.g. try chewing gum
@tough cookie No good. I'm glad my step father always accused me of 'catching flies' At least I learnt not to have my mouth open My teeth and naturally straight too and nearly perfect. My only main issue is that I am a life long snorer. I'm gradually getting on top of my snoring through mewing, abdominal breathing etc.
Is there any chance of getting brain infection(meningitis) during orthodontic braces? I'm curious to know, plz elaborate it's probability & risk conditions. Thnx!
dr. greg, I have a overbite/overjet with my upper teeth that needs fixing, I still have all my 32 teeth, and its a big over crowding problem, iv been to a dentist and was told about the over crowding but everything else was fine. I know that nothing is fine but money was a factor in nothing being done, I need the dental work very badly but no one seems to care. im on disablility because of this teeth problem of mine, when I had a job I lost it because women was afraid of me and I understood why.. im 54 years old and have not worked in 26 years because of my appearance/ teeth..the last time I visited a dentist was 7 years ago /dr. greg how can I get help with with problem and get back to work..
Hi, I'm almost 20 and I've had my braces on for almost ten years. The reason for this is about 6 years ago when I was told to wear my bands to fix my underbite, I never did. And I'd put it off and sometimes wear them for three months out of a year. And for years I've been wearing them on and off, never getting anywhere with progress. My orthodontist has a frequently changing staff and frankly I rarely go to appointments anymore, so it's slipped way under their radar I would imagine. I'm now trying to wear my elastics and I'm finding they're not really doing anything. Is this because I waited too long and didn't wear them when my bite was still permeable? I'm seriously worried I waited too long to wear my bands. I know it's no excuse but I've had a really difficult life the past few years and nothing has really mattered. But it matters to me now. I'm also curious if ten years of braces is going to have caused me severe nerve damage or something. My teeth have been straight and practically perfect themselves for years now. It's the bite I've been waiting on, and it's entirely my fault Thank you in advance if you answer
I really like your video. Can pls reply me on my case. My adult tooth is below my baby tooth, and it has to be removed for orthodontics. The adult tooth however, has 20% of permanent nerve damage if extracted. Such scenario, is it best not to extract?
Hello doctor Greg. I love your channel, I'm from Argentina. Two questions: Are water flossers useful? And more importantly:I have bruxism, severe, I grind my teeth in my sleep and wake up to a stuck jaw almost daily. Can this be an issue to getting and maintaining braces?? I am getting braces in the near future. But I didn't get to discuss it with my orthodontist.
I have a next question for ya! Do we have to remove our 3rd molars (Wisdom Teeth) or keep it depending of how big our jaws are? I can see the crown of my 3rd molar in my bottom right.
NO. Don't remove wisdom teeth unless they start to cause health problems. Pulling out wisdom teeth is how dentists make money. Wisdom teeth are not unnecessary and they should never be amputated without reason.
2 of my wisdom Teeth are growing like a normal tooth would. 2 on my other side are growing a bit at an incorrect angle. I asked this question because I think the 3rd Molars that are growing vertically might cause overcrowding. But thanks anyway.
I will highly recommend going to a specialist in teeth correction. I am 100% sure, the reason for my overcrowded bottom front teeth is because of my wisdom teeth. I mentioned this for 3 different normal dentists when i was younger. And they denied this, although i could feel the teeth moving, while the wisdom teeth was growing. Now years later. I just got braces, and just from wearing small elastics, for making space, to put som kind of metal around a tooth in each side, i could feel the tension in my front teeth. So yeah. Pretty sure, i was right. This is a lesson to myself, if something do not feel right, it does not matter what whoever says differently, even if they er are dentists. Get a another opinion, from a specialist, who will listen to you.
Hey Doc I've had a few consultations from different offices and some recommended extractions and others shaving im so confused on which is the best method for my teeth type. Whats your input on this situation
Omg I got 2 premolar in my top teeth, and let me tell you the PAIN was unbearable!! I got numb but I didn’t feel them pull it out but the wiggling to loosen the tooth was bad
I'd love a video specifically on profiling the teeth. I need braces, but approaching 30, my palette is most definitely fused, and I am not in favour of extractions or surgery if it can be avoided. I have a crossbite basically everywhere but the front, with no room on the bottom and a little crowding on the bottom front. My third molars are fully erupted, and are in line without issue however, but with no space behind them. My top two third molars have plenty of room behind them, and are also fully erupted.
I got 4 extractions, 2 on the bottom and 2 at the top. I had a overbite before but now it’s much better because I got braces 😁 Update: 1 year later and the holes are almost fully closed ^^
UPDATE: Its been 2 years since I got my braces and a few weeks ago I got my upper braces removed and I’m sooo happy about the results, I feel like I can smile freely now. My bottom teeth are not completely straight yet but I’ll get rid of the bottom braces soon. After they took the braces off I got a wire behind my teeth so that they stay in place! C:
same..
My dentist told me that she'll ne extracting 4 teeth too 2 bot and top, is it worth it??
Did it change your look?
same just got my first one pulled
I wanna suggest with my dentist to just extract 2 on the top cause I think another 2 on the bottom is too much huhuhu
Please talk about jaw surgeries in a future video. Why they are recommended/are there any issues that may keep someone from having them??
I would love to see that I am maybe getting jaw surgery in 2 years
Wloxya I had double jaw surgery two years ago it sucks lol but definitely worth it
Look up orthtropics on youtube it can save you

what that mouth do tho ?

How did it go
I had extractions done(4 impacted wisdoms and 4 premolars) due to severe over-crowding. I was incredibly nervous but my orthodontist explained it just as you did. I just did not have the jaw space because of how large my teeth were and I am in my mid 30s so an expander wasn't an option either. I get debonded in a month and I love my smile so much. not about teeth. it's about face. It's not needed, as you can expand. Expanding instead of extracting stops facial lengthening (eye to mouth) growth and instead encourages horizontal (ear to mouth) growth x

Me, a year into my treatment with no way of getting my 4 premolars back: watches this at 1AM on a school night
Edit: I got my braces removed Sep 14, 2020. I’m very happy with my treatment if anyone has any questions I’ll do my best to continue answering them.
Bro please get me updated hows it going? Is there any effects till now??
AJdG so far everything is okay and no bad effects. I don’t see any differences facial wise and there’s no negative effect on my tongue space. The gaps are all closed except one which is really close to being closed. Overall I think the extractions were good for my case of fixing an overbite because there wasn’t enough room. My orthodontist also said that the extractions would help make my upper lip protrude less but I have yet to see a difference in that regard.
Shreya K. No it hasn’t changed the shape of my jaw at all. I hope all goes well with your braces! :)
Yes we're interested, please do a video on jaw surgery as soon as possible please doc love your videos😍
Can you PLEASE do one on dental implants during orthodontic treatment!! I have to go through that and I would like to know how it could be done!!

I paid painfully.
god, I am so sorry.. How I you today? I am also a victim
Can you explain changes in the face shape when you get extractions or just braces in general?
Your profile will become flatter.
Does extraction of premolars cause any sleep apnea or less space for tounge?
hey Greg! today , I went to my orthodontist for my monthly dentist appointment and today I got my bottom braces! because I have a pretty strong overbite, I wasn't able to close my mouth without the top two front teeth colliding with the bottom two teeth's brackets , so in order to solve this , my Orthordontist put in this filling of my back teeth he told me was a "pillow" for my teeth which stops the front two teeth from colliding with the bottom, he also says it's a "temporary" fix , I don't know what he used but he used a syringe to fill in the back of my teeth and cured it with a light. Thanks !
Wow, youtube knows what I did today 😅😂. I just got my wisdom tooth removed and I saw this as recommendation ☺️
thats not good u know? Thats proof they listen to you.
How's your jaw? And tongue posture?

Dear Dr. we need to know more about skeletal class 2 malocclusion
My braces are silver, but there are like 3 or 4 that are yellow, what's the meaning or function of those with yellow color?

Hey Dr. 👍🏽

Does extraction of teeth get side effect????
Determining When to Extract Premolars in Class 2 Camouflage Treatment.
__________________________________
In cases with an end-on-class II molar relationship, extraction of the maxillary first premolar and the mandibular second premolar may be selected as treatment options (# 14, 24, 35, 45 extraction) to improve the molar relationship. Before the orthodontic treatment begins, premolars are extracted first and the orthodontic treatment may be started. However, in some cases, timing of extracting the maxillary and mandibular premolars may be different for specific purposes.
1) Extracting maxillary first premolar first if there is a high risk of Temporomandibular Joint Disorder
If the patient's lower jaw is unstable and the CO-CR discrepancy is large so Idiopathic condylar resorption might occur during orthodontic treatment, the mandibular position may shift backward during orthodontic treatment.
2) Extracting mandibular second premolar first for early improvement of the posterior relationship
If the extraction is done in advance during the leveling phase, the extraction space will naturally decrease.

Ukr....mine too.Almost a year now and they're barely closing 😂😂😂

I had 4 extracted 2 years ago: a misplaced tooth (crowding) was moved into 1 of the spaces, 1 space has closed, 1is almost closed and 1 is still closing.
Do braces impact your jaw negatively afterwards?
I had my 4 impacted wisdom teeth extracted as well as 4 bicuspids all at once. All of my canine teeth were blocked out of my arch and I have a really small jaw. I’m about 8 months into my orthodontic treatment and things are looking really good!
Did you get put to sleep when you got your extractions done? I have 4 impacted wisdom teeth and I need 4 more that needs to be extracted, I really don’t want to be put to sleep. Too scared! 🥺🥺
I did get put to sleep. I was the opposite. I was scared to be awake and feel something. It was very quick. I was in and out in an hour.
That was quick 😁
Yes it doesn’t take long at all if there are no issues.

Brix Tobias he might not make a video on that because he wants to extract teeth, which is silly. “Teeth are too big” bruh they are meant to be that big cause it’s your teeth, when you have big teeth, when you smile, your smile is more protruded.

Do we have to extract the corresponding lower teeth if the upper teeth are extracted?
Dung Nguyen I had to get my lower teeth extracted because of over crowding, and was given the option to keep my upper teeth or extract them also. My dentist said it would make the process a bit more difficult if i kept my top teeth but it wasn’t out of the question. I ended up extracting them anyway. Every dentist/ortho do things differently though so i’d just ask :)
well for me , i extracted my bottom teeth but kept my uppers. No problems at the moment but my gaps have not fully closed yet :)
One of my lower molars was missing so I got the other side extracted as well, along with the two corresponding top ones. My orthodontist told me it would be best to extract the top because of the teeth alignment and fit when the jaw closes.
Yes I believe so.
Tooth extraction should be stopped! It does more harm than good and over time the face sinks in.
It affects facial appearance and beauty negatively.
Our genetic blueprint is perfect, the reason we don't have enough space in our jaws is due to environmental factors growing up such as:
1. Mouth breathing and improper tongue posture which leads to a narrow upper jaw, crowding and lack of forward growth(and a host of other issues)
2. Our modern diets. We are not chewing on tough foods as much as our ancestors did.
3. Bad head and neck posture (forward head posture)
Never extract teeth.
Thanks for the great content keep it up, and congrats on graduating!

Ortho 1 probably wanted more money. Its very common for orthodontists to do that. Go with ortho 2

I’m getting braces soon, but I have 3 wisdom teeth in the back. Do I have to get them extracted?
How's your teeth now?
@@gail831 a lot better! My original gap on my right side where they removed the premolar, is being stubborn so it’s still there but all other gaps are pretty much closed. It’s been a year an a half since I had my extractions, so it has taken a lot more time than I expected it would :/

I am going to get 4 teeth extracted (my wisdom teeth were extracted about one year ago) for my braces, but the extraction is going to be after I get my braces.

Is it good for the face
watching this 2 days before i get all my first molars extracted due to decay(from bad habits as a teen) - a little nervous because my orthodontist said its not common but because of my specific case and severe crowding in the front, he said better to extract unhealthy teeth than healthy teeth and thus we still make room for the overcrowding
How's your teeth now?
I'm afraid of getting 4 teeth removed. Is it a guarantee that the braces will close up the gap?
So how does extractions affect the jawline ? Looks worse or does it look better ?
Hi. How do we know if the overbite/overjet is caused due to mandibular protrusion rather than teeth alignment?
Does it hurt?

@@mariannedanilis7755 same You made any progress since?
My orthodontist recommend extraction due to crowding, but I also had a bad molar tooth that needed a root canal. He removed the bad molar and had a surgeon uncover a wisdom tooth so he could put a band on it and use it to replace the bad tooth. Better than keeping a tooth that needed a crown. That wisdom tooth had to be moved pretty far, but it worked.

Why the hell would you want to remove or shave down healthy teeth? There are other options that don't mutilate

Then I want to 4th clinic where the dentist recommended me a fastbraces ,and he told me That he can proceed treatment without extractions. But I needed tonwear the palatal expander.

hi dr greg! i had a chance of assisting an orthodontist and to prepare myself during that time made me follow you and watched your videos.
How did it go ??

Hey Dr. I have a question if you had to get your teeth fixed would you choose braces or Invisaligners ???
He is too busy taking in the cash from his mid evil extraction/retraction orthodontics. See an epigenetic doctor who treats your whole facial structure. Braces and Invisalign can work, as long as teeth are not retracted.
I'm eternally grateful I've never had any extractions.
Few ask the obvious question as to 'why are the teeth crowded'. What about growing the jaw through improved oral posture. Problem solved! NM
@tough cookie You can grow it albeit very slowly through mewing.
@tough cookie Hard to say but I would never allow anyone to extract teeth
Better to try to align the teeth slowly over time using improved oral posture e.g. try chewing gum
@tough cookie You are lucky. I include other aspects such as chewing gum, the Kinsey chin tuck, abdominal breathing etc.
@tough cookie No good. I'm glad my step father always accused me of 'catching flies' At least I learnt not to have my mouth open
My teeth and naturally straight too and nearly perfect.
Thnx!

It's the bite I've been waiting on, and it's entirely my fault
Thank you in advance if you answer
Lol
Anybody else relieved that you didn't need to have any teeth extracted before getting your braces?
Yes I am...relieved.
But now you know why some people need them! =]
@@DrGregAsatrian Yes! Thanks for another great informational video!
I have to next week and im terrified 😂
@@laurenhancock4181 I'd say good luck, but I'm sure your orthodontist and you don't need it lol. Everything will be okay though!
Whats your input on this situation
is there is problem of head ache and pain on teeth after 6 month of extraction please reply
Omg I got 2 premolar in my top teeth, and let me tell you the PAIN was unbearable!! I got numb but I didn’t feel them pull it out but the wiggling to loosen the tooth was bad
The wiggling was the worst and then the crunch noise😭 lol I was numb but like it still hurt
Thanks for the dental info.
(I like the music used in this, who's it by? Thanks)
I’m 34 yrs old and I had my 4 extract done now am waiting for my result
Is it true that if you only remove 1 tooth the very back tooth will start erupting and come out?
My ortho had my some of my teeth extracted, because he thought they were coming in odd. That was like 2 years before I even got my braces.
Ur lucky that means you put braces while you are young.
Those teeth better be baby teeth cause man if it’s adult, they ain’t coming back.
