This video does not show proper procedures and cannot be used to measure a surface plate for traceable accountability. The mirror is not sitting against a straightedge, nor is it moved at a quantifiable distance. I'm sure the instrument is capable of measuring this surface but this video is total BS. Prove me wrong, send me an instrument and the software (I will provide a full deposit) and I will test it against other equipment in a fully certified laboratory environment.
Thanks for your comment. This is an exemplary representation of how the flatness of a surface can be measured by means of the Union Jack method. As the deflection in Y direction is measured only, the contact to a straightedge (positioning of the mirror in X direction) is not relevant. You are right: the reproducibility of the measurement can be increased if the individual mirror positions are approached exactly.
