@@helenaterschegget8791 depends what they go after him for to be fair, but probably. Either way the ruling makes sense. It’s not blanket immunity. It’s immunity to criminal prosecution for official acts. They could still go after him through congressional impeachment. Not that it will get anywhere.

hmm here in germany we have something like the constitution. a judge ruling something contradicting it, would beso illegal the judge will overruled. granting imunity to a person while the constitution stated nobody is above the law woudl disqualiy any judge immideatly. The charges for the classified documents aren’t more about when he took them, but when he refused to give them back. Remember they never would have charged him with anything if he had given them back in the beginning. This is a fact that matters.

He also opened his other house for the FBI to come and look for any other documents, as well as his former office at Penn State. That is the difference between the orange buffoon and Pres. Biden.

Everyone is looking at the SCOTUS decision the wrong way! The president’s core constitutional duties, including the commitment to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States" as stated in Article II, Section 1, Clause 8, involve upholding the law. If the president engages in illegal actions, they are unofficial. Contrary to Nixon's quote suggesting that what the president does is legal, the reality is that his official duty is to uphold the law, not make it. Making the law is under the jurisdiction of Congress, and the president's duty is to uphold the laws that Congress creates. Therefore, failing to uphold the law renders an act unofficial. The SCOTUS decision does not protect the president from prosecution for actions outside his core constitutional duties. The decision states that the president is immune if the actions are included in his constitutional duties. However, since his core constitutional duties include upholding the law, any action that he takes that is not lawful, such as committing high crimes and misdemeanors, which is an impeachable offense, falls outside the scope of his immunity. Therefore, he may be prosecuted, and the President's mens rea (mental state or intent) can also be included as evidence for the prosecution.

The problem I have is basically the idea that a presidential candidate can break laws while running for president or participate in an attempted coup after losing office and there is literally no way for the American people to hold him to account.
Note: It does NOT MATTER if Trump would be found guilty or innocent for participating in an attempted coup. What matters is that SCOTUS has ruled that trying a former president legally for an attempted coup is not permitted.
