It's great to see a talented restorer of portraiture welcoming AI into their workflow instead of resisting. Nicely done and look forward to seeing more of this as you develop your AI techniques with restorations. AI is not as easy as one-click restorations with accurate detail as many perceive.
Great video. Just started getting into Stable Diffusion myself and I'm trying to use it to restore and colourise old pictures. At 7:00 when you say that things started to go wrong, is it possible that you forgot to decrease the denoise level in SD? If you are happy with the image and you only want to upscale it, you can set denoise level to 0 completely. Even 0.05 or higher can start to add or change elements you were already happy with. Again, great video.
I have just come across your excellent video which is very informative and I am very interested in experimenting with working with old and new methods ie Stable Diffusion. After reading about Stable Diffusion there seems to be many other parts to download and many different 'add-ons' that other people use. I like the way you used Stable Fusion so could you please tell me what software/programs/apps that you use so I can experiment. Thanks.
In my view the selected AI generated face seen in this video was in (delicate) colour, and hardly needed further chromatic "improvement". When restoring/ enhancing and generally editing photographs from a former era, it strikes me however impressive the results may be, if the aesthetics of time the image was made in are misplaced, then the result is novelty not subtle restorative art.
Well done, you've put a lot of work into this and created some good results. May I offer some constructive criticism? In the original painting the woman's strong character is defined by the shape of her mouth, her philtrum and her asymmetrical eyes. The AI version has "perfected" these elements and made her look generic with a bland demeanor. The brooch needs to be angled to match the position of the sitter, it looks like it was just plonked on there at the end. Looks like you'll need to use some of your high level Photoshop skills to manually correct the AI work. I guess AI just isn't as good as HI.
Store: JBColourisation.redbubble.com Thanks for watching :)

Great to see you back and mixing old and new digital techniques

You should do the First Ladies of the USA in color

I don't get it. You're not "turning a painting into a photograph", you generated an image of an entirely different person.
