It looks like you were traveling in winter. That's another great way to save money...travel during the off-season. Summer is usually the worst time to travel due to high demand.
what a great video! another tip - I also land up saving up on unnecessary expenses like atm fees etc abroad - using apps like ATM Fee Saver - it helps find atms abroad with no fees or lower fees than others along with withdrawal limits etc. worth adding to your list of tricks!
thank you so much for this video! i’ve been privileged to have travelled a lot in the past, but want to start traveling solo. i forgot how affordable it can be if you know how to freak it hehe 😊
Ohhh, this is one of my absolute favourite things to do...I travelled to all 50 of the United States, 6 of the world's continents, and 78 countries overall...I'm deeply grateful for the profession that I'm in as many of the countries I've had the pleasure of visiting have been through my job...I agree with you about the cost of the airfare and that one should start looking a good month out to secure a reasonably priced ticket, unless they're willing to fly standby...On my "personal" trips, I use mostly Hostels, which are very common throughout Europe...If you enjoy cooking, there's usually a common kitchen available for one to use...I like the community of lodgers and meeting up with all kinds of people from around the world...Buying foods from local street shops can be cheaper than buying at more established supermarkets...I too use the public transportation system...I'm usually very central to the city, so tend to walk wherever I need to go, but if I am a bit outside the area or I just want to see the sights, I definitely will use the local transportation. Congratulations to you for your daughter's dance troupe performing Giselle. I recently saw a movie where that performance was front and center to the story's plotline.
What a lovely video! I, like you, have two grown up daughters who have recently started to move out and travel so I can understand exactly what you say and feel!
Hi Connie, another great video as usual. We retired early on a low income but still wanted to travel so we started house/pet sitting, we only have to pay the petrol there and back but get a home to stay in, some in the most amazing locations, something that would costs many thousands of $, we decide where we want to go and how long we stay, we connect with locals all for free. We were planning to go to UK before covid hit, but for time being we are just starting housesitting here again in Australia, actually doing a housesit at the beach as I write this.😀blessings from Australia
Hey Michelle, Housesitting is such a fantastic way to travel! We did housesitting as well when we traveled nomadically for 2 years (with our youngest daughter). You are absolutely correct, it is a wonderful way to really get to know the people and culture of a place. We are planning on living nomadically again when our youngest graduates school. Happy Travels!
I used to know a couple of people really did that for a couple of years & they had a blast !! Lol. If you are healthy ,w/ no mobility issues ( as many cheaper / affordable accommodations in u.k.come w/long steep stairs & no elevators !! Lol. )because if you can walk a lot & fast ,you'll get to around a lot & save ££ !! easily !! And if you're not picky ,there are Ibis ,Point A ( is pretty / clean/ usually very affordable ,sometimes ,a bargain price you get !! ) ,Z hotels ( no free cancelations, though ! ) ,not to mention ,Premier Inn !!! And some Holiday Inn are fabulous !! Renting a room from Airbnb is a great ideal & you can check out easier/ quicker than renting the whole place to yourself ,off course ,a lot cheaper this way ,too !! Hope you'll get to go to U.K.,soon !! I highly recommend Wales as well ! I'm currently planning our trip ( me & mom )to Wales and England, possibly Hungary ,Austria & Italy as well for this summer !!! 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈💞
Wow amazing tips my friend. So glad I subscribed to your channel way back and enjoy watching the amazing videos you put out. I lived in Germany for couple years and it is beautiful. I’m planning a trip to Italy soon now that things are kind of getting back to normal and really appreciate all the travel tips you offered. Thanks so much 💕
I also land up saving up on unnecessary expenses like atm fees etc - land up using apps like ATM Fee Saver - it helps find atms abroad with no fees or lower fees than others along with withdrawal limits etc. worth adding to your list of tricks!
Fabulous tour~ thanks for bringing us along for part of it. Looks like a beautiful city. You must be so proud of your daughter. I actually got a tear in my eye looking at the beautiful church interior. Just stunning. I made a note of the Kiwi site for future reference., Thanks!
I am very lucky that I get to keep my airline miles from work. One of the perks for being there from the beginning of the company and pretty much working for free. 😂 This year I am using my companion voucher to take my mom to Europe. It will be her first time!! You are so right about public transportation being easy to use in Europe. Great tips!!
Awww, that's so very nice of you taking your mom to Europe for the very 1st time !! She'll love it !!! You're such a good daughter !! 💖 I am currently planning our trip ( taking my mom,too !!! ) to Wales and England and possibly/ hopefully Italy & Hungary & Austria this summer !!! 👍👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈💞
@@spark_6710 we will be in Paris for 4 days, London for 4 days, Ireland for 6 days and Scotland for 6 days! My mom is planning the things we will do. I know of 2. Visit the town of Cong, Ireland where The Quiet Man was filmed and the Waterford Crystal factory.
@@terriberryhill8202 Sorry I didn't get the notification !! Wow ! That sounds like fun ! I'd love to go visit a crystal factory like Waterford 👍They've been in the business for a real long time !! I am thinking of not visiting Hungary & Austria because of the current war in Ukraine very sadly ! 💜🥁🐉🎤✈💞
Hi Connie! I am a first time watcher of your channel. I truly do appreciate all of the tips you have shared in this video. I have been wanting to start traveling for the longest time; but have been stuck on how to be minimal and affordable with all my plans! God bless 🌸🙏🏻
Thank you for this. I am about to take my very first trip solo. (This one will be to relax.) Then my son and I are going to Italy in May. We definitely want to get the best bang for our buck. I'm surprised you didn't mention a rewards card for the airfare.
How fun! Sounds like you have two great tips planned. We don't use credit cards, so no reward points. Although, I'm all for using any method possible to get cheaper airfare, reward points or frequent flyer miles.
I just posted my comment ,but it's not here !!? Lol. Italy & Wales are my No.1 favourite countries in the world ! I highly recommend Roma & Firenze !! My No.1.places in Italy !! Capri & lake Como ,too !! If you're going to Amalfi, then , if you can ,please visit an organic lemon farm there owned by a generations of a family !! Organic lemon farms have been very crucial to Italians & actually saving the Italian's lives from landslides !!! So,a very positive,historical/ educational / environmentally conscious thing to visit/ support !! 👍👍I believe I had been there ! Also learnt about it at my high school or jr.high in Japan !! Not to mention, you can get a very nice limoncello there !! 😆 or a slice of an organic Lemmon pie there !!😋 Staying in Salerno is a very good way to save your $$ ,if you'll be visiting Amalfi & even Positano. Napoli is the most affordable & cheapest/ the best Italian foods I've ever had was in there !!! And the authentic Italian vibes/ lifestyles you'll see/ feel there ! But ,the bad reputation is real ,sadly ,though a lot exaggerated as well !! But,my travel companion got mugged immediately as we arrived to the notorious train station !! She was very vulnerable & careless ,though !! 😅 I know you'll enjoy your trip there !! Good luck ! And stay safe !! 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈💞
