Wow, this was so fun to see your interpretation of my blob characters!! They came out amazing and SO detailed. I definitely learned a thing or 2 from this 😂
I've used Das in it's many variants for years, so I have a few tips. I'm sure a ton of folk have probably already said these but here goes: to join two bits, so they don't randomly detached once dried, slightly score or rough up the two bits before you stick 'em together. Das does take a while to dry in thick bits so using tin foil or, as I do polystyrene or even cotton ball, or other shapes you can buy or carve yourself from waste packaging, is a great idea and saves on clay. Great job my Nerde friend! But, don't go too thin, like you might over an armature with poly clay though, as it has a tendency to get brittle and might break when you pick it up or crack during drying. It's like any other craft or art material, you gotta play with it a bit to find it's strengths and weaknesses. My next goal is to get you to embrace yarn based crafting! You need one of the faster developing yarn projects, like punch needle embroidery or even rug hooking where you're seeing results almost at the same speed as painting or drawing....just a suggestion. Thanks for your vids. As someone who also has a chronic health issue, I enjoy watching you craft on the days I can't. Huge hugs from the wilds of Scotland and keep the projects coming!
I work with the das clay too and this will be very helpful. Once i put it in the oven and it actually had less cracks and it dried faster,But when i did that i did run into small difficulties because i was working with limited time so i tried to do it all in one day which ment the clay was warm and a bit soft on the inside so i would still leave it out for one day, although that kind of defeats the purpose of putting it in the oven.
Ive also worked with clay, though not specifically DAS clay, but from my experience working at a ceramics place, if you let the clay dry slowly it tends to have more strength and less cracking. It is going to take longer, but if youve got a project that youve spent more time than you want to admit to and have it come out decently, then the sacrifice is worth it. The way that projects were dried slowly where i worked is that you wrapped the piece in a damp paper towel(s) and then put it in a loosely folded over plastic bag for about a week or more. Take it back out and let it sit in the open air for a bit longer. Smaller pieces will of course dry faster, but the above is a rough-ish guide for how we dealt with ceramic clay, i would think that it would probably work fairly well with normal air dry clay type materials...barring paper based stuff, dont want any mold to develop there.
Blob fishes actually look like fairly normal fishes when underwater. They live deep in the ocean, in a high pressure environment. When they are brought to the surface, the drastic change in water pressure causes their body to swell up like we see in those pictures. So that swollen fish we usually see in pictures would've actually been in a lot of physical pain if it were alive when it was taken.
@@nerdecrafter totally agreeable no one in my entire fam understands my personality/style (aka aka dark creatures) they think I'm weird. I know the salt fam understands tho! love ur vids!

Making tiny little sticks out of something isn’t really using that something. I’m pretty sure she meant did she ever actually use it for a project that isn’t tiny little sticks. Which she probably has to be fair.
For clay, I recommend using a toothpick or dowel to attach larger pieces that are more likely to fall off to the main body. That's what I do in my stop motions (different type of clay, but it should still apply) and it works well enough ^^
Awwww a pug frog......name them ‘Progg’ 😂 I found with clay when doing things like the bow or blob eyes etc that using a sharp pointy thing to crosshatch some shallow grooves into the two sides you want to stick together, adding just a dab of water then putting them together works better. The clay sorta smooshes into the grooves from either side and bonds a little better.
Right?!? Glad I wasn’t the only one thinking this! I really hope they all do a collab one day soon! Tip: when the clay keeps falling off, make a cross (❌☦️ kinda looking like that )and indents when you adding to the clay creation, that way it won’t fall off.
Tip for air dry clay: When attaching pieces, slip and score. Slip can be made by dissolving a bit of the clay in some water and adding a bit of vinegar and this should have a yogurt-y consistency. Scoring is when you create marks on the surface where you want to attach the piece and the piece of you want to attach. Then you add the slip on the score marks, attach the pieces, wrap a thin coil around it, and smooth it. c:
Yep. It’s similar to scoring pieces of polymer clay when attaching and using liquid sculpy, bake and bond or similar product! Which are all things/methods she is familiar with when using polymer clay.🤷🏻♀️
Thank you for explaining it. I knew about scoring it but didn't know the slip part. Interesting. Jackie must have though it was completely different than working with polymer clay. It certainly looks different, quite a bit messier, than polymer.
@@Mark_Agamotto1313_Smith From what I was told, vinegar added into the slip allows the clay the stick together better/creates a stronger bond. I'm not sure about the science behind it, but it works!
@@Mark_Agamotto1313_Smith My guess would be that since vinegar is very acidic it would help better dissolve the clay to make the slip as well as cause the slip to have a mild similar effect on the pieces it’s applied to which would help make a stronger bond. It also evaporates fairly quickly which could help the pieces being attached create a stronger stable bond quicker. But that’s just a guess based on the fact u can use vinegar diluted with water to make a cheap clay softener to smooth oven bake clay pieces before baking🤷🏻♀️ I could be wrong

Just a hint -When adding folds into clay, use cling film, or as you probably know it, plastic wrap, over the *MOISTened* (there, I said it for you)clay before you use your tool. This makes the clay roll into the fold, rather than make a harsh crease that can look like a cut. Push up and under slightly too, for an even foldier fold! And .... today’s the day! Probably can’t afford shipping to England, but I might try and replicate with items here, if it’s possible, so I can join in.
This is exciting. Sending lots of love to you and Sika ❤️❤️ Hey Jackie are you planning on making a "draw my life" video? Been waiting for it for so long! 😅
Das is among the best air dry clays you can get because it doesn't shrink and crack as easily as other clays. You're doing it right! With putting foil on the inside. My tip for parts like eyes and bow that you can't smooth into the rest of the clay is to do what you do with pottery clay. Make slip. Take a bit of the clay and mix it with water (It takes a bit of patience and jabbing the clay) until it forms a thick paste. Score both sides you want to attach together and add slip to it, then stick the pieces together.
That was Awesome. Really enjoyed seeing you sculpting, you are amazing at sculpting even when its not your favourite type of clay. The way you used the resin was great Mr froggy is my favourite with the rose eating monster blob coming second. So want to see more of this type of creative content from you.
The clay she used reminded me of the clay we used in elementary in art. It looked the exact same color and acted the same with water, but you bake it. And the way the paint looked on Moriah's creatures after she added the gloss even further solidifies the thought in my mind that the clay isn't air dry, and that's why it took so long to dry, was because it actually needed to be baked?
The type they used actually is air dry clay. But it’s formula makes it take longer to dry but is less likely to crack. Most fast drying air dry clay has a high likelihood of cracking bc of how rapidly(and often unevenly) the clay shrinks as it drys. Air dry stone clay like this one take longer to dry fully but tend to do so more evenly and thus crack less. Also these projects were very thick pieces of clay so it’s no wonder they took a long time to dry. 🤷🏻♀️
Hey im not trying to be one of those "your doing it wrong" pepole, but for the peices that fell off did you scratch the clay? In my art class at school when peices fell of my project it was because I dident scratch it. I was just wondering because it was the frist thing that came to mind when the peices fell off.

I thought it was so cute and creative. It was weird but super cool!! Your videos are so entertaining! I watch your videos a lot and I sometimes what ur videos over and over again when u don't post XD
It seemed like maybe you had issues with things staying on because it didn't seem you blended those edges well. The reason Mariah's stayed is because she spent time really blending them together til they were all 1 piece. Yours seemed to kind just been placed in small indents and not blended as well.
Oh I'm so glad I'm not the only one who was like 'but you're supposed to slip and score' to attach bits so they don't fall off. Cause I distinctly recall being taught this when we worked with clay in art class and I figured it probably still applied to the air dry clay as well. Esp since I noticed Moriah doing that in some of the clips you showed.
I came to know about your channel from Royalty Soap and I've been hooked. 😁 I really wish to see a collaboration of both of your channels. Love your guys..!!💙☺️
Little fun tip for the folds, Jackie: put a piece of plastic (Genre papier cuisson, en tous les cas, une feuille souple en plastique !) and the tool won't leave sharp edges. It will be aaaaaaaall smooth.
The UV resin tongue is perfect!! 🐸 I was hoping for a small fish tail on the back of the fish, but, Jackie, you made me smile all the way through!! 🐟 Thank you! 🤗 They are darkly cute! Just the perfect blend!! 👍👍 Hairless cats are very weird but cute as are Manx with no tail. Some are just odd but cute! 🤪
Love the blob fish! Also, in order to stick pieces even with small attachments you could try the method of scoring and slipping typically used with firing clays. It should work in theory.
It's even more dark when you learn that a blob fish looks the way they do because they are fished from 2,000-4,000 ft underwater and they loose their shape :'(
it IS sad, they live in an environment of 907 to 1,799 pound per square inch, and get yanked to a pressure of whatever the atmosphere is at that time. Not very healthy for them. Then again, neither is winding up on someones dinner plate.
Wow you couldn’t have done better! The color choices and designs are a perfect interpretation of Moriahs Blobs evil twins! 😌🙌🏼 Great work as always! What a great idea! LOVE THIS!!
Not gonna lie with the flowery one I kinda wanted you to go a bit gory with thorns and blood but have the blob be like the orange color you used and the blood be like neon orange Ik I’m weird
Thank you so much for making blobs! They turned out great! Since you are friends with Moriah Elizabeth, could you do me a favor? Could you ask her to PLEASE PLEASE make blob merch? I love her blobs so much and would definitely buy blob merch! I'd buy merch with your blobs on it, too!
I gotta say "Jackie you're doing it wrong" when it comes to sculpting with air dry clay. You should treat it more like regular ceramic clay in that it will need slipping and scoring for added parts to stick. That's why the eyes popped out. It's not enough to just set or press added pieces into the clay, even if you mush the sides and blend them to the main body, it'll be likely to crack or pop off. Also, I personally recommend Polyform ModelAir paper clay when it comes to air dry clay. I've tried that DAS myself and didn't like working with it at all.
I love both of your versions of each character. Makes me want to try and find air dry clay to fiddle with. Adore the Froggie. The tongue is the best. 🤪

Hey jakie I love your videos , I am a big fan you are my idol I started doing sculpture because of you
You are my idol ❤️❤️
Love love love your channel i do abstract paintings and honestly get inspired by watching your channel # feedsika love her hope y'all have a wonderful weekend i am watching from naples fl
Oh my goodness! You're actually so good with clay. my favourite out of the ones you made in this video was definitely the blob fish! I absolutely love the blob fish you made!
The personality oozes out of the orange flower creature! 😂 Love these so much.
These are totally awesome in their own right, as are Moria's! I recently got some air-dry clay, so I may have to play with blobbies!
Hey Jackie , your clay is stone clay and Maria’s clay is paper air dry clay. ☺️ that’s why the texture was a bit different.
Maybe you could redo the Dollar Store concept with this clay if you could find some more? I love that dragon. Looked like a toasty little hatchling 💕
Jackie ur so different and just make "weird" hobbies and interests seem so much "cooler" and more "normal" and thanks for that❤️
Brilliant Jackie!! Just brilliant.
I loved the idea of the resin on the tongue. Pure genius!
We just love moriah's and Jackie's friendship 🙂✌️
The UV resin tongue is perfect!! 🐸 I was hoping for a small fish tail on the back of the fish, but, Jackie, you made me smile all the way through!! 🐟 Thank you! 🤗 They are darkly cute! Just the perfect blend!! 👍👍 Hairless cats are very weird but cute as are Manx with no tail. Some are just odd but cute! 🤪
Jackie: "That's Kirby....Me: its the Adipose from Doctor Who!
So I am not the only person WHO thought of that. (pun very intended.)
Love the blob fish! Also, in order to stick pieces even with small attachments you could try the method of scoring and slipping typically used with firing clays. It should work in theory.
Fun fact: blob fish only look like that when they're taken out of the water!
Yes. When they're in the water they resemble George Clooney
i- 😂
YES! I LOVE her blobs!
They all turned out so well! I REALLY love the drool on the frog one, nice touch!
I actually found the "dark" versions cuter than the "cute" versions (both are cute). I think this says more about me than the sculptures though.
It's even more dark when you learn that a blob fish looks the way they do because they are fished from 2,000-4,000 ft underwater and they loose their shape :'(
omg lol never knew that...
Before this I was like God that fish is weird
Now I am like omg sorry fish
Oh... Damn T.T
And they are in enormous amounts of pain (if alive) when they get pulled up
it IS sad, they live in an environment of 907 to 1,799 pound per square inch, and get yanked to a pressure of whatever the atmosphere is at that time. Not very healthy for them.
Then again, neither is winding up on someones dinner plate.
Wow you couldn’t have done better! The color choices and designs are a perfect interpretation of Moriahs Blobs evil twins! 😌🙌🏼 Great work as always! What a great idea! LOVE THIS!!
Hopefully you can do another squishy makeover with birb deciding, I really liked that video
I love seeing you creating with clay again! And I love your dark versions of Moriah's clay blobs!
I have a pack of this air dry clay just sitting on my desk. TIME TO MAKE BLOBS!
Oh this was so fun! I love your versions of her bright cheery blobs 😍
Not gonna lie with the flowery one I kinda wanted you to go a bit gory with thorns and blood but have the blob be like the orange color you used and the blood be like neon orange
Ik I’m weird
Love when you craft and make stuff! Inspires me to get up and actually use all these supplies I’m hoarding lol
You should try cross hatching when sticking clay pieces together! It helps stick em together a lot.
Moriah uses polymer clay to make fake sprinkles just so you know
I love seeing all the crafting youtubers supporting and promoting each other in the comments❤️
ahh they are so freaking cute! (person who loves hairless cats)
Love the drool effect. It’s a great technique and really goes well with that little guys character. Nice touch!
Aww, Jackie, thanks for the heart! ❤️
POV : you expected sika because we see her all the time now 😂
I love frogs and I loved watching Moriah Elizabeth make hers as well. Very excited to see your version.
I’m here faster than all might could say I am here!!
Yass I love this Jackie 💖💖⭐️
this das clay is different from the one moriah used, that other one is very white and smells kinda nice, yours is a stone effect type, i never used it so i don't know what's the difference, my local store only has the one like moriah's
didn't watch the full video yet, so i don't know if it's gonna make any difference, just commenting as i go
The fish one is my favorite. So cute
I watched that video like a thousand times where she made those little blobbies ❤️
I love to know I am not the only one endlessly inspired by Moriah Elizabeth!! Very cool Jackie
3:16 I keep my fingernails short for crafting and just so that dirt doesn't get constantly stuck unerneath. Same with jewellery. I see some crafting people wear rings and stuff, but then it gets all messy. You can't be happy with that, can you?
Did you know that blobfish are actually normal looking until they are brought to the surface. The decompression damage causes it to just go...blurgh...poor little bugger 😁
Another amazing vid, Jackie! Makes my Fridays 💚
Love the blob fish! Blob fish need love too! 😂 Red-lipped batfish next?
These recreations are amazing!! Badass as always🧡
