As someone who comfortably straddles the New Zealand and American accents, I have to say it’s more trouble than it’s worth. You never quite have the smooth command over language that you need to not have it be immediately noticeable.
I think The X Files typecast her in Hollywood but moving back to England after the show was over was the best move she made for her career. And she's a far better actress now or are at least the opportunity to showcase her talent has been more present. I agree that she's been underrated; she's better than Hollywood rated her.
well the problem is i think she's been type cast as Scully. unfortunately that tends to happen when you've spent so long in one role that you tend to get typecast im afraid.

Maybe X Files, being objectified as a sex symbol & playing 2nd fiddle to David Duchovny in Hollywood didn’t allow her to show or explore the parts of her personality the way her return to high caliber British TV has.
I remember back in the nineties she was on the cover of all the magazines and listed regularly at that time as one of the most beautiful women in the world but by god I think she’s even sexier now that she was then, it’s the looks, the accent, her elegance and inner confidence, she’s a hottie.
I recently watched the series: 'The Fall' (dont know how I missed it first time round!). The police character Gillian played was outstanding, and had such gravitas. Though the drama covered incredibly harrowing subject matter, the consistency and solidity of her performance was astonishing, and kept me spellbound. Her acting has an amazing 'centredness'. Brava Gillian!
She a regal, graceful, intelligent actress. Her acting skills just get better and better. The Fall was amazing work. In Hannibal, she was mesmerizing. In A Streetcar Named Desire, wickedly outrageous. And in the Crown as PM Thatcher, spectacular.
She's the only actress I've ever followed ever since I was in high school. I became a massive fan of the X-Files at the start of its 2nd season and while she's gone on to phenomenal roles since then, she'll always be Agent Scully to me.
2 episodes in and I already think she's the best character on The Crown! Her portrayal and the direction does not make us symphatize, but it does put the audience in her perspective. Just so fun seeing the crash between her vs. the queen.

Anderson’s “Media” in “American Gods” was absolutely incredible. It was an imitation of a real like person by a fictional character. She did Lucille Ball, David Bowie, Marilyn Monroe and Judy Garland in parody yet you detected the fictional Media behind the voice. It was wild- so unexpectedly good. Anderson is a powerful actor. I love her! 😘
Such an amazing actor. At first I was put off by her Thatcher, but by episode two I was just totally seeing Thatcher like she was this completely different, original, complex person (unique but still similar to real life Thatcher). Give her every award.

May I just say without starting a riot, I watch these interviews to hear the person's answers. She puts a lot of thought and time into her answers and does not deserve to be drowned out by piano music. She was born in Chicago, moved to London as a child, but moved back to United States at 11 years old. However, I've heard her interviewed many times, and I've never heard her speak with a British accent.

It’s usually held by people who have homes in both England and America or travel a lot between the two. I think that’s the case with her-and I think she currently lives in England and has for the last several years. Also of note, her character in the other Netflix show she’s on SEX EDUCATION is English, also. It’s filmed in Wales.
