  • In today's video, we learn how to make a Microwave Gun... This is literally quite dangerous if you don't know what you're doing, and is made mainly just as a dun demo experiment... I can't think of any good practical applications for it so yeah :D . Anyways... Thanks you guys! I really appreciate you all!!

    It's not tripping your breaker, it's tripping your GFCI/RCD because it's causing an imbalance between the load and neutral sides of the circuit (it's probably moreso than anything feeding stray currents into the ground line since that's connected to the metal casing of everything). To trip the breaker you need to induce major current in the line loop of a circuit, not just disturb the balance between load and return current.

Why can't you double or triple the straight section (2x or 3x or 10x wavelength) to produce a more focused beam? Aren't microwaves in telecommunications very focused like that?

    Certain foil shapes can act as an antenna and focus the waves to a smaller point rather than block them. I'm not an expert in this by any means, but the foil hat might not be blocking anything but rather concentrating it. It's still fine though since the thing is directional. Just be careful in case you do one that doesn't have the waveguide.

    I am a retired microwave engineer, and was surprised that he was able to complete this video, because the HV capacitor he was touching ( on the insulated spade terminal) could retain a charge of several thousand volts after being disconnected from mains power ( don't rely on the bleed resistor doing it), which is enough to KILL YOU, and WILL jump over the insulators on the spade connectors on the capacitor. ALWAYS DISCHARGE THE HV CAPACITOR WITH AN INSULATED SCREWDRIVER, or PLIARS before touching the Transformer, or HV Capacitor. NEVER discharge the HV capacitor with uninsulated crocodile clips, or screwdrivers.

    tune the waveguide and restrict the exit to create a standing wavefront inside. that will generate air plasma. you can try to use coils to accelerate the plasma out of the reduced exit to fire plasma shots. i was working on this back in 2000 but never got it right. plasma kept getting attracted to the wall of the waveguide. i think it just needed more juice

  • @markuslanz8667

  • @jeffkoplow4171
    @jeffkoplow4171 7 ปีที่แล้ว +185

    EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. Please understand that there are genuine safety hazards in this build that could kill or maim you even if you're being careful. The 2000 volt microwave power supply is capable of putting out 500 mA of current. This will kill you without a second chance. The 1 kW of microwave output is also very hazardous. Even at relatively low intensity (e.g. from stray reflections off of metal objects or diffraction through cracks in the improvised waveguide) exposure to the microwaves can gradually denature the proteins in you're eyeballs rendering them cloudy, and at higher dosages, opaque. This process is irreversible; you can go to the hospital but they will tell you that there's nothing that can be done. There are other parts of your body that are fairly sensitive to microwave exposure as well (e.g. testicles, brain). It is also conceivable that someone else will find your cool looking apparatus, plug it in, conclude that nothing is happening, lose interest, and then possibly forget to unplug it. This assumes they don't go poking around the exposed wires in an attempt to figure why the device is (apparently) not functioning. The narrator is also correct to point out the danger of beryllium oxide dust. Seriously, consider the potentially grave consequences before deciding to undertake such an experiment.

    This reminds me of the time I acquired a commercial 220v microwave from the back of a restaurant that they were throwing out when I was a teen. I took it home and wired it to my clothes dryer outlet using leads and it worked. So I then took it apart and installed the magnetron on the bumper of my car with a cone. Then I put a bunch of car batteries in the trunk with a bunch of large capacitors in the circuit and a transformer. Had two switched. One between the batteries and the capacitors and one between the magnetron and the everything else. I would flip the first switch and charge the capacitors then turn on the magnetron after 30 seconds. I would do this at night and when i did this to a car in front of me, the lights would blink off and on and they would pull over. I think their car stalled. I don't know. It was really fun. Hahaha
