- Residents and businesses in the City of Orange are now required by the State of California to separate organic waste from their everyday trash. Organic waste includes items such as food scraps and yard waste.
When organic waste ends up in a landfill, it produces a greenhouse gas called methane. By 2025, the State of California hopes to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions by 75%. This requires all of us to redefine what we consider as trash.
