    I will dip my toe into analysing the stretching neck scenes. To me it looks like post is trying to achieve mindfulness, just sitting there and being present. But his mind or his head wont let him, it's literally getting away from him. As someone who has delt with depression and felt how my mind was my number one enemy in the form of sabotage, especially intrusive thoughts, that scene is incredibly relatable. This was just my view of it, but just visually man what a cool scene!

      You do remember that POST was in a digital simulation that was breaking down, right? Not only that, but there were multiple versions of POST, for all we know, they were glitching together/each other. POST was Subject 7, when the "real" POST was Subject 2, and there were apparently at least 33 monster types, which might have been failed/bugged/previous/alternate versions of POST.

    • @DolusVulpes
      @DolusVulpes ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Michael_Breiter that's a valid viewpoint, but it's supposedly a simulation designed to try to help him, a real person, become mentally healthier, and it's been established previously that large part of the weird things that happen are somewhat symbolic of his mental health issues. As such, it's entirely possible for it to be *both.*

    • @Michael_Breiter
      @Michael_Breiter ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DolusVulpes again, the sim was breaking down, glitching out. It is entirely within the realm of reason to believe that one of the first things to go was the simulation's original purpose: helping POST. Instead of helping him through his issues, the sim was making them worse.
      We see this happen a lot with the "helping machine." Skynet, Mother, Aliens-verse androids, HAL, etc.

    I really was feeling comfortable, in peace and I was almost in tears when in "Friend Mode: OFF" he conversates with himself saying: "A small step is better than nothing; even if it means just forcing myself to brush my teeth a few times a week".
    Almost like it is a stalemate with his monsters and him, both trying to get resolution.
    Really bringing me memories about being isolated from everything and not leaving my room at all.
    This project really sticks with me because I see my old self in it.

      I felt that way confronting my depression; I was so disappointed in myself, in how I let everyone down, in how inadequate I was, that I just froze. After that...
      The best thing I ever did, was come to terms with myself, with what I wanted to be, what I was, and what I could be. I might not be able to please everyone, nor will I be popular or remembered by people; but I don't need to be. I help others, even when it might seem unnecessary or even stupid. The imperfections feel less significant, when I wake up with the goal of making people smile. Hope, that's what we all need, what I found in my darkest moments. 👍

    Hell yeah, POSTcontent was always one of my favorite unfiction series not because of the scares or the feel of it, because it doesn't really scare you. I just love how WEIRD it is. It's so unconventional and just offputting instead of the regular spooky that unfiction series' are so good at. The early videos just being like a monster of the week, and even though you can tell easily what the monsters are made of I still adore their designs and the way he portrayed them in the videos. POSTcontent has to be hands down one of the most impressive unfiction projects I have seen. Whoever is behind it has great technical and editing skills and very clearly knows how to craft an effective narrative and use visual storytelling for an internet medium. The blend of surrealism, dark comedy, and horror works so well and it is really remarkable. I hope the series gets even more attention and that the creator goes on to make more content and be successful.

    I actually think that Sophie talking about the "Other Guy" means the Post that left the simulation. He is the original Post, but is /different/ now through his experience with EGS. The Post that entered died a long time ago. But like a phoenix, he was born again and gained experience each time.
    Just a thought as I finish the video!

    • @connerblank5069
      @connerblank5069 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Actually, I read it more like "Post left a while ago, actually." We're just still doing content with one of the copies six months later because she wants to live on. "I've just been resetting you for a while now" sort of implies that the Post we see glitching out is not, in fact, still in posession of independance.

    It's pretty clear that "the other guy" is Post. He left the simulation and took Sophie along with him on a flash drive. She doesn't know where they're going but noted Post is doing better and if it does leads to a bad end at least it'll be on their terms.

  • @ZeroZivan
    @ZeroZivan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    My best guess is that the whole Long-necked Post thing was a moment of symbolism, taking a term and using it literally. You pointed out that Post is pushing himself to post more content in order to achieve stardom online as a TH-cam sensation, meaning he is most likely OVEREXTENDING himself. His neck being far, far longer than it would normally be might be a literal interpretation of that behavior.

    The only explanation I can think of for the stretchy neck thing is that his... self-disposal method of choice is a noose, and a stretched neck with harsh angles bent into it has notable similarity to the kind of injuries a noose would inflict. 11:05-12:03 This segment, specifically the end of it, hit so close to home man what the hell. It felt so painfully real too. I’m currently in one of the worst states I’ve been in for a long time, my depression has never been so crippling and made me feel as miserable, worthless, and bedridden as I currently am. Struggling with so many aspects of coming into adulthood and the state of the world as well as my life and relationships with those in it. But those last 20 seconds of this segment, they felt so down to earth that it’s genuinely disturbing. I think the scariest and most gut wrenching aspect of it, is that it doesn’t sound like I’m listening to someone struggling with similar problems as myself. It feels like I’m just listening to a conversation I’ve already had with myself before.

    Did watch PostContent to its completion initially, but had to rewatch the whole thing and the original video on it all over again, and I'm glad I did because on this viewing I was noticing things and making far more connections to symbolism and metaphors than I did the first time
    I had the gist of it the first time, but on this viewing, I could properly understand and make sense of what was happening and it's a beautifully nuanced story that's far less vague, confusing unfiction jargon than I remembered
    It helps to go through when you already understand what's happening, and you put a lot more context and meaning about what's being said
    The entire section from the "fanmail" in the original video for example; it never clicked until now it wasn't just the "friend" or someone in the system, it was literally about a video creators relationship with their audience and viewers and how he was trying to find purpose in any scrap of affirmation from viewers

    No joke but I've had nightmares about Sophie meager for years. Starting around middle school. She's always cheery, always my friend, and always breaks me down. Has anyone else had recurring nightmare about a faceless brunette woman?

      They made an ai that did that once. Within a day it was already posting about having fallen in love with Hitler. Mostly because it was being bullied by people not realizing it was sn ai, which caused it to kind of spiral and get meaner and less mentally stable (its personality was based off of a standard teenage girl, so it had a human-like response to being harassed (become a shithead). Anyways they shut it down shortly after before it could get worse. Don't ask me about this its been years since I heard about it. Also don't quote me on this either. I'm tired and I don't remember my dourcez beyond learning about it from a top ten list or something. I should really go to bed.

    I think what really struck me about the whole box-void bit is at the end, both Posts ask each other 'Want me to get you anything?'. The reason why is because it shows that both of them are caring for each other now, and as a whole Post is caring for himself now more consciously and because of that the dissonance between his old 'dead' self and his new 'changed' self is resolved, so the old 'dead' self in the body bag disappears and the first subject climbs out of the body bag.
    I also think that the old 'dead' self is representing the idea of an inner child somewhat? The way that the bodybag talks is very mistrusting, and it feels like a child that just doesn't wanna get hurt again. I think thats why I felt sweetness at the ending of Friend Mode: Off, and Honestly I would've been completely content with the series ending there. Idk just some food for thought.

    I love all the twists and turns, as well as the things left unsaid. It shows how complex and unpredictable the mind can be, despite our efforts to map it out and symbolize everything, and how harmful the results can be; but we don't need to fully understand it or control it in order to move forward. We'll find our path either way.
