    Impressive monitor! I tried it at IBC on-site. Works great! The camera connection page is so clear that I can quickly find the camera I want to connect, and automatically reconnection is what superized me.
    Also, I noticed they added a function to customize the page, I wanna buy it when it's released, it's very useful for me and will enhance my shooting efficiency.

    I had that monitor - the delay with camera controls was just a little too laggy for me and the image wasn’t great especially when bright. I sold it and got a SmallHD cine 7. It’s expensive but I adore it.

      @@iamkubrick I never used it with the old operating system, but you want to talk about laggy bro the SmallHD Cine 7 is a lag fest lol. I own that monitor and holy shit it’s terrible. Not sure if they tweaked settings with new OS but the image is also fantastic. I mean you can even see in my video what is shown looks true to life. Honestly, I’d argue looks better than my SmallHD Cine 7. Might do a reel to show side by side. Again, can’t comment on old OS but new one is 🔥🔥

      @@JacksonK-e5w they’re overpriced for sure. But they’re industry standard. It’s more about reliability on large risk productions. Not many producers are going to be to be confident with ‘portkeys’ ‘hollyland’ ‘freewell’ monitors being used on proper productions. But these other monitors are ok for TH-camrs and smaller productions. Thats just the reality of the industry. You don’t turn up to the Daytona track in a Toyota Camry.

    Great review! I didn’t realize you could convert from HDMI to SDI that’s sick! I love the power options and also love, of course, that you can control the camera. When it’s all rigged out, it can be so difficult sometimes to change settings quickly on an FX3 for example and being and to quickly tap the monitor to change white balance or switch to slow motion, that’s so clutch! Now I need to make the switch as well! Thanks dude! 🙌

  • @ChristianLeibig
    @ChristianLeibig หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Fun fact: There's nothing proprietary about the electrical properties of the DSMC3 monitor USB cable. It's just that the plug form factor is very very compact, so most USB cables you find online do not fit the camera or monitor side.
    It took me about 10 orders on Amazon to find a cable that is "compatible enough" (can't lock on the camera side, but other than that it works fine). It was 10€ for 2 cables...with a bit more searching or even modifying the plug housing on some of the cables you could probably find another really cheap one that just works.
    I threw those 2 cables replacements in my camera bag for the eventual day when the original USB-C cable decides to glitch out.

    • @mondobytes
      @mondobytes  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Funny because I did the same thing and even spoke to Kondor Blue which they stripped the whole entire cable so that it would fit inside and still didn't work. The cables may not be proprietary but they are special cables that have some sort of voltage regulator so that you can;t just use a standard USB C cable. Trust me, we've tested almost every cable on Amazon and again stripped it so that it would fit. You might have got lucky with the cables you got that send out the right voltage for that monitor.

    • @ChristianLeibig
      @ChristianLeibig หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mondobytes that's interesting that you even spoke to a cable maker and they couldn't get it to work. Not sure if it's a voltage thing, I doubt a random noname cable from Amazon would have that kind of technology in there because I have no idea which other device would even use this. Like where's the market to put that in a cheap off-brand cable that will get buried under similar offers.
      Here's the Amazon ID for the cable I had luck with on Amazon Germany B0BPX3GBBT, brand is listed as SUMPK. Just checked, when I bought it in February 2023 it was a 2-pack of 50cm cables for 15€, and I bought another pack after I confirmed this model working. In the description it says something about an E-Marker Chip being built-in, maybe that's the key for the video signal to work on DSMC3.
      Only downside is it's a tiny bit stiff for off-camera monitor work on a ring grip. It works but has a bit more push/pull than I'd like.
      If you are interested give it a go. If they somehow changed something with the cable after over a year I could also send you one of my 4 cables to test if that's something you wanna look into further. But since the video says you've been replacing your monitors maybe you don't even need a backup/replacement in your bag anymore.

    • @ChristianLeibig
      @ChristianLeibig หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@mondobytes I tried to reply to your comment but my answer is only visible in my history, not here. Maybe it got filtered out because I included an Amazon ASIN (not a link, but still). Don't know.
      Short story: The cable I bought includes something called an E-Marker chip. Maybe that's the key for DSMC3 to output video. If you want I can send you the ASIN or even a one of my 4 cables for testing, but judging by this video content you might not even need it anymore. :)

      @@tylerstooksbury3050 Which is why I use that motto, despite a company promising an update even a month later I never buy something with the promise that I will get it but for what it is now. I waited almost a year for my Cybertruck to get FSD when it was supposed to have it day 1 of release. I'm not trying to apologize for Portkeys, but if that was something that wasn't available at the time of launch then I personally would of held off if that was something I really wanted. Who knows, maybe with the high demand and positive feedback they might release it soon, I hope that's the case for you because their new OS is very impressive.

      I'm in the same boat. Bought the v3 monitor, hated the interface, and held onto it for a year waiting for the promised Cinenorm update. I don't think I'd buy another Portkeys out of pure spite haha

      We apologize that our monitors do not support control of the Canon R5C. However, adding more camera models that can be controlled with our monitors has always been our pursuit.

    Their old operating system and User Interface was atrocious, this definitely seems to be a step in the right direction and just from judging off of your video color rendition looks much improved over their older monitors.

      hmmm, well, checking the price in EU where I'm located and I see it's 1030€ and when you consider that a Ninja V Ultra is already 860€, the price difference is not THAT bad. This PortKeys is 2" bigger and has a ton of very interesting and quite unique features.
