Vertical farming is the practice of producing food and medicine in vertically stacked layers, vertically inclined surfaces and/or integrated in other structures (such as in a skyscraper, used warehouse, or shipping container). The modern ideas of vertical farming use indoor farming techniques and controlled-environment agriculture (CEA) technology, where many environmental factors can be controlled. These facilities utilize artificial control of light, environmental control (humidity, temperature, gases...) and fertigation. Some vertical farms use techniques similar to greenhouses, where natural sunlight can be augmented with artificial lighting and metal reflectors. Hydroponic systems can be lit by LEDs that mimic sunlight. Software can ensure that all the plants get the same amount of light, water and nutrients. Proper management means that no herbicides or pesticides are required.

You could have used a garden hose to cool the openings quickly. A 2" round dowel with a point cut at the end will also make a nice hole which is large enough.
Using a white wine bottle instead of a piece of wood with square edges would go a long way in solving the tearing issues.

Why white wine? Any wine shaped bottle should do.
Yes. A crow bar to start the pocket, a wine bottle to open it up and a spray bottle to cool the plastic with the wine bottle inside to cool the plastic off and set the shape.

Good idea with cutting the barrel and Bending it With the 2 x 2? Other videos use 2" PVC🤑... While it is hot, get a towel Soak it in water put it over the spot you are trying to form. It will harden in seconds and stay where you want it? then pull the board out. that my go a little faster? It really doesn't matter if it rips? You won't see it once the plant grows? Outstanding job..👍 Another subscriber...
i am finding it better to put less openings then what in the video. plants tend to get large in these barrels so you need more space

Great idea could you maybe use a PVC pipe to make a rounded hole or would that melt together? I was wondering if it would attach and then be stuck? But I am looking for barrels and how to get them we have a friend with a truck but most are and hour away so far. I prolly can only get two in my SUV which is a lotta gas. But how long do you think it took total with the melting and shaping? These when they first came out I knew they were out of reach and they wants hundreds. You Could also cut in half and make 2 smaller but I like the taller ones and yrs unless you have a hand truck they are really heavy and even then they could break with all the weight.i did that with garbage cans we used for dirt and leaves and water and they definitely deteriorate some but these are thicker s should last longer. Lthanks for sharing hope to get this done 😊

You can weld the tears by using a waste piece of the same plastic, some of the top. Heat the piece and the tear and fuse them togather, takes a little practice. You can smooth it out with a steel putty knife. Dan S. Michigan & Texas

You say about changing/revitalizing the soil each year but I thought the idea of the built in composter was the resulting compost continual revitalizes the soil. Is this not the case?
the composter is to feed the worms. but you still have to change the soil ever few years depends on what you grow
