you have to understand during pre debut, they were kids ages 11-17 years olds. the kid you're talking about at 3:15 is Samuel. he was 11 that time, his parents decided he was too young for the industry so he left Pledis. some leave, some gets cut off during monthly evaluations. training period for these idols is so serious, it's basically their childhood/teenage life. they go to school then train until dawn. most of them don't even go home to their own homes, they stay at the dorms provided by the company. they all literally grew up with each other mostly without their real families.

The rings represent that they were official members that would debut with seventeen. Because their debut got pushed back because lack of funds (pledis didnt have money to debut them) the other trainee’s lost hope and left. That’s why the rings means so much for them. +the company they are under pledis doesn’t have any dating ban. they actually encourage them to date because they write and compose their sobgs. If you watch their debut live performances adore u the members had to buy their own in ear monitors and those who cant had to use earphones as substitute thats how poor the company was. + they made a 17yr old the producer of the group. woozi learned for 2yrs then they let him be one of their main producer along side bumzu. And all the members help with lyrics, composition and choreography.

Pledis unfortunately does not have a lot of groups now however it had some legendary groups like After School, Pristin, Nuest
Now Pledis is a part of HYBE, however they still manage Seventeen more or less independently

rappers actually have deeper voices and its really common in older groups BIGBANG-TOP, BAP-BangYongguk etc. they usually have a deep tone and high tone rappers.
Seventeen’s part of the 3rd generation of idols.

18:21 The videos in these segment where they do the fanchants themselves in a room, are the guides they made for fans to follow in their concerts later ^^ So yes it was not a video of the concert, but they're teaching Carats how to do the Sogo (drum) fanchant later in concerts

I just wanted to say it’s kind of a rare sighting to see all members re-sign their contract especially bigger groups. So the fact that all of the members re-sign even before the expiration date shows sooo much. It’s called the 7-year curse in K-pop 😂, bc contracts are usually 7yrs and by that time many idols want to leave to try something new or rest, from what I know now seventeen will be a group for 5(?)more year (correct me if wrong fellow carats hehe) during this time, some the members will be slowly going to the military,
Thank you guys for reacting! They are the group that I fell for soo hard, they are amazing💎🩷 also react to going seventeen (GoSe) many people know that show and aren’t even seventeen fans 😭😭

    • @mej9268
      @mej9268 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +18

Yeah it's pretty rare to see..many groups used to loose popularity even 5 years after debut..
Seventeen debuted in 2015 so i guess they passed the "7-year curse" (8y) 😊 and they keep on getting better and better!
      Btw thanks for mentioning GoSe!
To make it more clear for for the lovely gents,
many kpop groups do variety shows of their own in order to make contents for the fans. For them to see some funny sides of their idols ,connect with them more and give them comfort,as well as promote group activities and themselves.
Run Bts,Going Seventeen, Skz Code (stray kids) are just some of them.
They play a variety of games,go on trips, sing and dance,do challenges where the loser has to do a punishment, flying yoga, school role-play episodes where they play many popular games in Korea etc.
It really depends on the group, the budget and how "booked" the idols are in that time of the year.
Games can be computer games, sports, different physical activities..as well as mind games.
      For example in Going Seventeen
"The mafia game"- basically mafias are chosen,a doctor and the police. The mafia has to find the money, hide it and play along in finding the money with the "citizens" while they are trying not get caught and killed (voted out).
It's pretty fun and gets quite competitive sometimes.
Also "Bad clue" episodes where it's basically like in an Agatha Christie novel, everyone has a role, the murder has to be found..everyone is a suspect..
Not to spoil too much but yeah those are some of the fan favorites.
I've been watching many groups and have not been limitting myself to a certain type of content or forced myself to choose a "favorite" among them. But i couldn't help but to fall for going Seventeen. The episodes are really entertaining and well made. Weather you are a fan of Seventeen and their music or not there is no denying that GoSe is one of the best if not the best variety show an idol group has done.
Ofc i'd like to see you react to their music first and watch the guides to the units since there are so many good songs you can hear from them and learn a lot more about the goofy group they are..but for sure in the future as many Carats (their fans) join this would be an amazing idea.
Thank you so much for all the conntent so far,it's been a real pleasure watching you guys 🫶

3:07 That's Samuel, he was a trainee with svt but he was too young when they were going to debut so their parents didn't let him, honestly right choice since he would have debuted at like 13, now he's 21 and soloist
3:55 At that time the company was bankrupt, so they didn't even knew if they will ever debut, so some decided to look for another company or went back home

I don't know how much you know but I wanted to do a very brief explanation of kpop in general. many others will give you more info about specific groups, so I wanted something more general. my credentials? Kpop fan since 2011 and studied the idol system for my university semester project.
Kpop began in the 1990s (The idol system was actually adopted from Japan but whatever). It got revolutionized into the "idol" groups we know now during the late 90s and start 00s, especially with the debut of TVXQ. (Kpop) Idol simply means an artist which has gone through the process of being a trainee (training in various areas to prepare for a debut) and is under a company in the kpop industry. Some train for years, others for months.
Kpop is not really a genre as much as an amalgamation of a lot of aspects like fashion, music, performances, merchandising, and promotion. The kpop culture is somewhat unique. Lightsticks are common, so are fandom colours and names (e.g. Seventeen's fans are Carats and the colours are Rose Quartz and Serenity), fanchants, and albums containing the cd, a photobook, and photocards (small cards with a pic of a random member) and often also a poster and stickers.
You can win fancalls or fanmeets by buying albums, basically a lottery. Dance practices and going live and having platforms to talk to the fans are how they foster a fandom. Most groups also have their own variety show where they play games and go on trips. In Kpop it is not just music and performances that are important, you get to know them as more than a singer (of course you will never truly know them but you know what I mean).
Kpop is more than the music and fandom culture. There are unwritten rules of respect and privileges, older groups are sunbaes and younger groups are hoobaes, which means a level of respect is expected. Groups debuting under bigger companies are statistically more likely to succeed, which means it's more difficult to debut under those companies but you're more likely to succeed so...
The Big 3 (JYP, YG, & SM) is a famous trio of big companies, now joined by HYBE.
Idols are somewhat looked down upon by the general public, some groups have helped improve it over the years, but there are still prejudices and strong scrutiny. Fans are very protective of their groups because of the struggles they face and cause the parasocial relationship groups present.
When groups release a new song/album (have a "comeback") they do promotions which include being very active on tv shows and media. like "hey I'm on this program to promote our new song! give it a listen"
I hope this gave you a small overview of kpop as a whole. I will add a second comment with some historical facts if you get curious but didn't want to make the comment too overwhelming.

      history of kpop
In the 1970s and 80s Japan developed the idol system and Korea adopted this system as they flourished financially in the 90s. This was also following a wave of democracy after decades of military rule following the Korean war. Seotaiji and boys came with a modern sound and had lyrics which emboldened the youth and they gained a large fanbase.
Then in 1996 SM entertainment debuted the group H.O.T, a group of boys that had been trained to sing and dance, and are thus credited as the first idol group. They gained huge success as they came just as seotaiji and boys had disbanded and had left a gap that needed to be filled. And following H.O.T came more idol groups, i.e., g.o.d (1999-2005), S.E.S (1997-2002), and fin.k.l (1998-2005).
In the early '00s, groups began expanding in Asia, and tried breaking into the tough Japanese market, solo artist BoA having the most success.
The Big Three entertainment companies were formed during the 90s; SM as mentioned, JYP in 1997, and YG (by a former member of Seotaiji and boys) in 1996.
This began what is known as the 1st generation of Kpop.
Then in 2003 the 5 member boy group TVXQ (aka DBSK) debuted. They were pretty and young and all potential main vocalists. They gained immense success and became the transition from 1st to 2nd generation. The group became known under the moniker "Gods of Kpop", it is quite difficult to explain how popular they were especially considering the early stage of the internet at the time. They became popular in East Asia, especially with young girls.
2nd generation also found the debut of iconic groups i.e., Girl's Generation, Super Junior, Wonder Girls, Big Bang, 2ne1, 2pm, and SHINee.
Wonder Girls were the first group to receive some significant interest in the West, appearing on television, having collabs with western artists, and having a nickelodeon movie.
with Big Bang (2006~2018) and SHINee (2008-active) came some big developments in Kpop: Big Bang was the first group to have a significant amount of male fans, having a unisex appeal, and was the first idol group to have rappers that were from the underground rap scene, the leader of the group G-Dragon was also the one to invent the lightstick, the group members also had successful solo careers without disbanding as a group, introduced the concept of mini albums, and began the concept of airport fashion & SHINee was the group that popularized complex and difficult choreography to the Kpop scene and introduced dance practice videos.
Then. In 2009 came a huge shock to the industry, 3 members of TVXQ sued SM entertainment, seeking to null their contract on the basis of unfair length of contract (13 years) and distribution of profit. The mistreatment became a huge issue and is to this day one of the key factors discussed concerning the "dark side" of kpop, this lawsuit led to a change in contract law concerning idol contracts to get rid of "slave contracts" (with limited success as you will find out later). The 3 members, JYJ, settled with SM but got blacklisted from the industry in return.
Throughout 2nd gen, Kpop rose in fame and profit, becoming a significant cultural industry.
Then 2012. Psy's Gangnam Style goes viral on youtube. Kpop gets spread much further out and in the West, not taken as seriously and largely still unknown but the industry became much more aware of the global market.
2012 was a huge year as many iconic groups debuted then: EXO, B.A.P, BTOB, EXID, and AOA.
EXO (2012-active) with their comeback Growl (2013) became beloved by the general public "nation's pick" and the song an unofficial "national song". B.A.P (2012-2019) introduced a new, more tough, concept and broke barriers, gaining huge international popularity, performing on time's square at one point.
A change happened during late 2nd and start 3rd gen, idols from richer backgrounds started debuting and this would become a trend (previously many idols came from poorer backgrounds and often ended in large debt making their debut), marketing became very important, and the image of an idol became more strict.
in 2014-2015, 3 (Chinese) members of EXO separately sued and left the company for reasons concerning health, discrimination, unfair contracts and pay. When the member Luhan left, SM's stock fell with 9%, it was a big deal and sent waves through the industry. EXO's popularity at the time is difficult to put into words. They were everywhere.
In 2017, BTS (2013-active) really began seeing international popularity and only rose further in fame from there, seeing the most success during the pandemic. This was especially unique as the group came from a small unknown company, Big Hit.
With 2019 came one of the largest scandals in Korea which also involved some kpop idols, the Burning Sun scandal revealed another scandal involving KakaoTalk chatrooms. This had a huge impact and is to date the largest scandal involving kpop.
Throughout the 3rd gen, many groups and members sued their companies for lack of pay and unfair contracts, B.A.P being one of such groups, and more recent 3 members of EXO sued SM in 2023. There have been many major happenings in kpop throughout the years that are upsetting: deaths, accidents, and lawsuits. But of course also a lot of wonderful things, which I feel is rarely mentioned. Kpop has fostered a diverse community and charity has always been a huge means in which to celebrate idols (especially for birthdays).
Kpop has a lot of groups and an interesting history, so this is really just an overview of huge events.

In school uniform they are on a TV show Knowing Bros. The program features a high school classroom setting with the fixed cast - the titular "brothers" - acting as same-aged students. Guests arrive posing as visiting students from another school and are interviewed by the cast in a talk show segment; the program's second half usually features a variety segment, with the cast and guests taking of activities such as games, talent show, or improvisational acting.

I dont think the music got stronger they always try to show a different style but it has the same color, even in the last album is a double title and it has both, you also have the soft songs like "dust" or "april shower" they sang live and are very popular. For the main titles they are always changing styles.. and its usually for season as well, the last one was more of a summer song but on winter they will probably go for "softer". F my life FML have actually a positive take and that later it will represent Find my life. Also in Korea, seventeen is probably one of the groups that have a lot of male fans, the subunit BSS is very loved by men. For more context, in Korea and other Asian countries people wear masks or stay at home even when they catch a cold because is considered to be rude if you spread your disease so for Covid, even when it wasn't mandatory people still used the masks but it wasn't for a long time, Kpop artist also held a lot of online concerts etc.

First off, Hi, Im not sure if you guys will still read this comment, Im a Carat ever since pre-debut era, their info from after debut, Im sure other carats have already written them for you. To give you guys a little insight of their predebut, they start off 20+ trainees, was suppose to settle at 17 of them, but some trainees either gave up or decided to change career, quite few of them left. They were suppose to debut in late 2013 to early 2014, but because of trainees leaving and bankcruptcy, they had to be delayed which leads to the decision to debut 13, and set the debut in May 2015.
Im going edit this little by little as I watch, another insight, we, the fans were almost named mounteen (Dont ask why) 😂😅 so glad they fixed on Carats.
Ok so, someone already explained the rings in the comment, but I want to add that Seventeen made a promise to each other to NEVER take that ring off and I can assure you they NEVER did, they said that IF EVER they came with no ring on their pinky, that member is out of the group PERMENANTLY, that is how important that ring is. If you see videos of them just casual roaming around, you'll see them have it on, proving the rings are not only for show, they wear it casual, sleep and bath with it too. Yes there are 1 of 2 of them lost the ring once, but it was lost while wearing it.
Pledis is not like other big companies where they have strict rules, plus Pledis and Seventeen build themselves together from ground up, so no trackers and no bans to do whatever. Seventeen has been in the industry for 8 years now and not a single scandal that can break them. When scandals do happen, we carats dont really give af, this fandom could careless about dating, we focus more on the celebratory news like new records and charts.
SELF PRODUCING IDOLS, is not what you think, they take this title FOR A REASON, unlike other groups that started producing after debut or idols that produce SOME of their song. Had fun watching along with your reaction :) SEVENTEEN write a lot of music that relates to the large and general public, so songs like F*ck My Life, Clap, Hug, Fighting, etc. are all talking about how everyone has moments where they feel like the world is working against them or that they may not have the means or energy to continue on, but you just have to keep fighting for yourself. SEVENTEEN always reminds their fans that they are here to cheer them on and that although trivial things bring us down everyday, you are the most important and should always be cherished. This is actually the reason I came to love SEVENTEEN so much. The messages in their songs bring a lot of comfort.
However, there are many cases of idol suicides in K-POP and depression is a severe issue in their industry. The F*ck My Life reveal was delayed because one of the members best friend, who is also an idol, passed right when they were having a comeback, so I think FML unintentionally spoke to societal problem as well. Celebrities all over the world crumble from living under a magnifying glass all the time but k-pop idols are over-worked, over-monitored, controlled and extremely restricted in every day life by both their company and their fans. It's really unfortunate.
Anyhow, can't wait for more! Thank you so much for this!

I’m still new to the Kpop scene and had no idea it was that stressful and strict for the artists. So sad that they would consider ending their own lives with all the love and support of their fans. This makes me sad 😢

Yeah sadly the whole of South Korea is very hard working, they’re expected to be perfect and have perfect grades. Also mental health is kinda looked over which is why South Korea has the highest suicide rates. Also, globally, toxic masculinity is a massive problem. I don’t want to hate on these guys but when he said to “just man up” I felt so upset. Suicide rates are twice as high in men because of things like that. People still believe men should just get on with it and ignore their feelings but that’s why more men are taking their lives than women. It’s ok to feel all emotions and cry, it makes you human and it doesn’t make you weak, I believe it makes you stronger.

    • @DANDJREACT
      @DANDJREACT  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@AshCim_Kpop
I agree with what we want men to do with their feelings but the cold hard truth is that when a man breaks down and cries, pours out his feelings and gets emotional women lose interest and trust in him. It turns women off.
They say they want a soft emotional man until they get one then realize how unmanly it is and it turns them off.
There’s been many studies showing this to be a fact. So, this is why men keep their emotions in check and to themselves. Men know deep down women will be turned off by this and eventually leave him for a stronger more dominant man.
That’s just human nature. Been this way for thousands of years and isn’t going to change anytime soon.

    • @AshCim_Kpop
      @AshCim_Kpop 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

@@DANDJREACT um that’s not true. Personally I couldn’t care less and I would see u more as a man if u did show your emotions. That just your assumptions as you’ve clearly been brought up with that culture. I do believe it is changing though. I see men expressing themselves more and although these idols are overworked and there have been suicides, they’re also becoming more vulnerable. They cry, they show their weakness, they express it in songs and try to uplift everyone else up aswell. Women are assumed to be the “weaker” ones but that’s not right. If it was the opposite way round and a girl never showed her emotions to you, would that be a “turn off”?

Pledis has fromis_9 that is a girl group, they have soloist like Baekho and Hwang Minhyun. Most of the other groups they had like Nu'est, After school and Pristin are disband now. And they have trainers for a male group, tho at the moment we don't know about them, it was svt who kind of introduce them in their last fan meeting but they had their faces cover so we don't even know who they are or anything, just that pledis will have a new boy group in the future

I just wanted to comment on your talk about Big Bang and just say although most of the members (except Taeyang really) have experienced their fair share of controversy. Seungri is really the only member widely hated and denounced by the community. The other members are mostly still respected and support by both fans and idols, especially those who understand their situation at the time. That being said I think it’s up to the person whether they want to support them. I just wanted to clarify that there are still many supporters of Big Bang and everything is a little more than black and white.
Oooo also about the every groups having the one member with the deep voice that is pretty true and since you were wondering if Felix was the first. Seventeen is actually a lot older than Stray Kids but even before Seventeen there were groups with members with deep voices. One of the most notable being former B.A.P member, Bang Yongguk who’s currently active as a rapper (just saw him in concert actually which was awesome) but yeah he has a super deep voice and I’d recommend you check out B.A.P or Yongguk on the channel or even your own time cause they were amazing. Also T.O.P from Big Bang is known for his deep voice and so yeah there are have been deep voiced members since as far back as the 2nd generation of K-pop (from around 2000-2009).

Love the reaction and ur insights on stuff. Surely other comments had clarified some things so i wont touch on it. Maybe i will in the other 3 guides that touch on individual members but who knows. Carats are quick sometimes lol.
Long comment ahead bcs its abt other pledis artists
Pledis used to have a promising set of artists but because of mismanagement and now Hybe also seemed to make internal handling messier, Seventeen is definitely the main group for Pledis. There’s also fromis_9 which is a girl group that has a more youthful vibe. There’s also Baekho and Minhyun, both are now soloists but they used to be in a group called Nu’est under the same label before they were made to disband seemingly in a rush. I do want to recommend some of Nu’est songs though cause I know them better than I do fromis_9. F9 did have a new song recently called #menow but that’s pretty much all i know.
Nu’est (imma recommend songs that sound closer to their brand esp after they handled the production of their songs): Help Me, Dejavu, Where You At (these three are songs as a subunit without a member), Bet Bet, I’m in Trouble, Inside Out, Drive, Again/다시,봄. These are at least ones with MV. They also have a special collab with svt called Heaven, which is hella good but there’s only a stage video as well as a choreo video with a much better view and sound. Its a shame its not on streaming platforms.
Baekho: Need It (his solo debut). He had other performances from the same album but they’re stage performances idk if u want that.
Minhyun: Hidden Side (solo debut with MV), Cube (bside, no MV but there’s choreo video)

3:30 that kid is really a kid i dont even think he's a teen yet. but basically these kpop idols go on training from teens (some younger) until they debut
4:44 for promotions they would often guest on tv shows like Jimmy Fallon/Ellen/Late Night Show stuff to promote their new songs and different tv programs have different themes
13:10 these are their title tracks like how in the west they release a single before the album. for them they have 1 title track released with mv (which they promote to shows) released together with the ep or album
19:48 the competition is more of like for awards. like best song of the week kind of thing. like in MTV that kind of stuff but weekly.
21:00 tha's why they have long trainee periods. they learn to dance the basics and everything so now when they release new songs it gets (slightly) easier for them
21:33 they had their 2-day concert last july and i think they performed 26+ songs
24:18 seventeen debuted before stray kids (felix) and i think it was kind of normal for kpop groups to have a rapper with low voices. but i do agree felix has to be 1 of the deepest voices in kpop active today
kpop system is kind of wild tbh and it is sometimes difficult to understand. so thanks for taking your time to understand this and reading comments.. i hope you get kinder audience that will explain to you . thank you for these rections!

It's def obvious that you guys are new to kpop and don't know much about the industry lol. I'm not saying that in a bad way, it is very understandable as they do things VERY differently there. Also, the comment that one of you made about how bad could it be for the f*ck my life song, the song isn't necessarily about them but rather to help fans through difficult times but please don't understimate how brutal it is to be a kpop artist. They start out as young children training while still going to school, they generally live in dorms and have to rely on the company to take care of them and when you're from a small company like SEVENTEEN was then they don't have much they can even provide you with. Imagine going to school, having homework, and training to sing and dance while maybe getting 3-4hrs of sleep every day and you're sharing one bedroom between I think they said 10 people was the most they had at once in one room with bunk beds. Every penny the company has spent training you, housing you, and feeding you has to be paid back after debut so most of their earnings in the earlier years basically all goes to the company. A lot of companies don't even let their idols date, pressure their idols to maintain a certain weight, you are expected to appear perfect at all times, and with some even things like hair color and style are all decided by the company. Thankfully PLEDIS doesn't seem to be very strict with them though. With some companies you also have to worry about mistreatment from the staff and it can really be a nightmare. Now add into that after they become famous, they can't go anywhere or do anything without people bothering them, you should see the videos of them at airports having fans with their phones literally in their faces and the stalker fans who manage to figure out what flights they will be on and book the same flights. There was even an issue where some crazy people figured out what hotel they'd be staying at and booked a room at the same place, someone snuck into a trailer I think it was and took a drink out of a members cup or something. There is a massive amount of social pressure put on them and that really isn't easy to deal with plus their jobs are incredibly demanding physically. Fame and money are nice things to think about but the reality of what they have to go through to have that is just awful in my opinion. Even though PLEDIS doesn't have a dating ban, right now we even have a situation where one member is in a dating scandal which came about by people over-analyzing photos online, it isn't even like the member said he was dating anyone or anything like that, and the toxic angry fans are calling for him to leave the group. As for the awards and things, they have regular music shows on tv there and whenever they release a new album they'll come on those shows and perform the title track and those shows always have like voting stuff (I think it is weekly but I could be wrong) and they calculate that with stream numbers and sales of the album and whoever has the highest number after is who wins basically. I probably didn't explain that well but hopefully you get the basic idea.

HYBE was before big hit entertainment where only had BTS, then thanks to the success of Bts it became HYBE and then HYBE bought companies that were in difficulty like pledis. Source music ,Ador , belift lab and many more

They were not in difficulty, stop lol
They (HYBE) wanted to make more money, it’s business, not some kind of charity

@@hiiamnataliikr, I hate it when they make it sound like a charity case, like seventeen wasn't bringing money to their company 🙄

Please don't spread misinformation. Hybe only acquired the majority of Pledis' shares bc they saw how popular and impactful Seventeen was getting and wanted to get in on the money they were making. Pledis was doing just fine on their own. If anything, Seventeen is the one that saved Pledis from difficulty.

Seventeen already popular since debut so they were no longer poor when Hybe acquired Pledis.
They already recovered from bankruptcy and rich thanks to Seventeen's succeeded, pledis even build a new building and it awarded the grand prize at the 'Korea Remodeling Architecture in 2017' (2 years after Seventeen's debut in 2015) once again thanks to Seventeen's money.
On top of that, Seventeen is the top 3 famous KPOP boygroup in 2016 and get named EBS by korean , EXO-BTS-SEVENTEEN as the biggest boygroup in Korea.
So even without joined Hybe They're already so popular in Korea.
The business reasons why hybe acquired Pledis and other potential label is because Hybe want to joined or beat the old big 3 entertainment company at that time SM, YG and JYP.
At that time tgey only have BTS and Txt just debut and notcas famous as now, so they tried to get more artists to boost their popularity and business to become the next Big 3 company.
And since Seventeen (Pledis) and Gfriend (Source Music, Le sserafim 's label) are the only popular groups from small company at that time , so Hybe started the acquirement with them.
Note: HYBE acquired Pledis in October 18,2020 and that time Seventeen already got a lot of awards and even Daesang (The highest achievements a group or artist can achieve on Korean Awards )
